Surrounded by inspired and knowing speech, Soma, the wise one, is cleansed by the streams that flow together. The essence of Soma is sought by Mitra, Aryaman, Varuna, and the Maruts, who drink of the purified sage. Possessing wisdom and purifying himself, Soma seeks speech, his drop abundant a thousandfold. Praised at the sacrifice, Soma brings forth speech of immense weight, purified and potent. Much-invoked among people and beloved, Soma, now purified, enters the vast ocean. He flows forth with flashing brilliance and a resounding voice, the bright Somas led by the cow as their head. When impelled by the priests, the strong one advances to the prize, settling as companions do. For prosperity, Soma, the wise one who has descended from heaven, flows pure for the sight of the sun. The sisters, wives of the Lord of the clan, urge on the mighty drop, the great one, with their strength. Pavamana, shining with varied light, god among gods, enters all treasures for the benefit of those who invoke him. He grants to the gods abundant praise and rain, purifying himself for wealth that is held together. By his radiance, Soma is a bull; self-ruler, shining with splendor, he is called upon. He flows for his devotees with delight and heroic power, self-armed, coming as a drop to this place. Purified by waters and cleansed between the hands, Soma reaches his seat in the vessel. Songs are sung for Soma, the swift-flowing, the great Pavamana with a thousand eyes. His honey-dripping, tawny color is urged forth with stones—the drop prepared for Indra to drink. Soma, vigorous and seeking all wealth, is chosen as a friend for victory over riches. Flowing with his stream, eager for the Maruts, he bears all powers with his strength. Supporter of both worlds, seer of the sun, Pavamana is urged on like a steed in contests. Through the filter, the tawny one flows with his stream, urging on his yokemate in the competitions. He flows to his devotees with great nourishment, all-seeing, guiding them on the path. Soma enters the vessels with his streams and vigor, ready for Indra’s drinking. His strong, intoxicating juice, pressed with stones, flows forth as the destroyer of opposition. The king, purified by wisdom, moves with purpose—Soma travels to the limits of thought, journeying through the midspace. Soma is asked to bring wealth: the abundance of a hundred cows, nourishment of cattle, and horses, for the gaining of good fortune. He is called upon to bestow strength, youthful vigor, form, and brilliance, well-pressed for the favor of the gods. Most radiant, Soma flows forth, resounding in the vessels, settling like an eagle in its nest. He flows for Indra, for Vayu, for Varuna, for the Maruts, and for Vishnu, entering the waters. Soma is invoked to grant nourishment for offspring on every side and purify abundant wealth. The Somas pressed far away, those pressed nearby, and those in the land of Saryanavati, those in the Arjika sacrifices, among the dwellings, and among the five peoples—all are called upon to bring rain from the sky and heroic strength, being well-pressed. The tawny, desirable Soma is purified, praised by Jamadagni, flowing over the shining hide of the cow. Bright and youthful, the Somas flow forth like seven streams, cleansing themselves in the waters. The priests set Soma in the pressings for the gods’ purpose, and he flows forth with splendor. Soma is invoked to bring skill, joy-bringing, fiery, and intoxicating qualities, guarded by the much-invoked. He is asked to bring delight, wisdom, excellence, and thoughtful guidance, guarded by the much-invoked. Wealth, wise and of good counsel, is sought from Soma and his powers, guarded by the much-invoked. Soma purifies himself for all peoples, for all sacred rites, a friend worthy of praise among friends. With his two abodes, Purifying Soma rules over all, standing forward, Soma faces all with his divine presence.
