With reverence and praise, the sages invoke Soma, longing to conquer wealth accompanied by noble sons. As Soma is purified, their songs increase, rising in gratitude and hope. They beseech Soma’s help and favor, praying for victory and the power to overcome all obstacles. Soma, vigilant in his vows, flows onward, driving away hostilities and clearing impediments, journeying toward Indra’s abode. O Purifying One, they cry, bring us great wealth and renowned strength filled with heroes. Indu, drive away our foes and grant us the power to stand tall among men. Even a hundred treasures cannot diminish you, O generous giver, for when you are purified and delight in the offering, your abundance remains undiminished. Flow on, O Indu, strong and pressed, grant us fame among people and dispel all hatreds. In the warmth of your friendship, O Indu, in your highest glory, may we prevail over those who contend against us. With your fearsome, sharp weapons ever ready, protect us from every harm and from the wicked. The drops of Soma, O Indu, flow swiftly through the filter, seeking all good fortune for the worshippers. Destroying many evils, making easy paths for our children, Soma grants strength to our offspring. As Soma flows, he creates wide space for the cow, moving forward with praise, and the sages pray to receive the gathered nourishment. This Soma, pressed for exhilaration, skilled and dwelling on the mountain, settles in his place like an eagle. The bright drop, purified by the gods’ wind, pressed by men in the waters, is enjoyed by the cows with their milk. Then, like horses, the pressers adorn the immortal one with the essence of honey during the shared feast. The streams of Soma, flowing with honey for aid, reach the filter, ready for Indra to drink. Passing through the unshorn hairs, Soma sits in the woods in his resting place. Flow around, O Indu, most sweet for the Angirases; grant wide space, clarified butter, and milk. The wise, purifying Soma is set in motion, shining forth and pouring out the vast, ancient stream. This bull, with the vow of a bull, purifying and destroyer of curses, grants wealth to the worshipper. Flow for us a thousandfold wealth, rich in cows and horses, shining before us and greatly desired. Poured out, purified by the pressings, Soma strides wide and is wise in thought. A thousand streams, a hundredfold in gifts, the wise one, swift through the spaces, flows as inspired thought for Indra. Born of the chant and praised, the drop is prepared for Indra like a hero at the dwelling of strength. Purified by men, Soma, pressed, rushes forth like a prize, taking his seat with power among the hosts. Upon the triple-backed, triple-yoked chariot, the seven inspired thoughts of the seers harness Soma for the journey. The pourers urge him, swift and wealth-seeking, to speed on for the prize—press the bay, the prize-winner. The pressed one enters the vessel, all beauties streaming around, standing like a champion among the kine. To you, O drop, for exhilaration, the streams milk forth their essence, sweetness for the gods among the gods. Let the Soma, most sweet, flow to us through the filter, renowned among the gods. These Somas have flowed forth, praised for great glory, with the stream of the most exhilarating. For winning cattle, Soma, purified, rushes with manly strength, bearing the prize. And for the worshippers, all wealth-bringing streams flow, praised by Jamadagni in measured song. Flow, Soma, foremost in speech, with splendid aids, encompassing all inspirations. You, foremost, set the waters of the ocean in motion with your speech; flow, stirring all. For you, O sage Soma, these worlds have stood firm in your greatness; for you the rivers flow. For you, as rain from the sky, the streams come forth unceasingly, spreading bright abundance. Purify the drop for Indra, strong and fit for skill, the lord and bestower of riches. Purifying, the sage, the true Soma, reaches the filter, granting heroic strength to the hymn. Flow forth, Soma, a thousandfold wealth and heroic strength, bestow fame upon us. You swell with nourishment and strength, most exhilarating for Indra; you settle down in the vessels, ready to grant your gifts to those who praise you.
