Born pure and radiant, Soma is filtered through the cows and adorned with sacred fragments, as the gods themselves draw near to partake of his essence. Our songs rise to nourish Soma, just as the cows nurture their calf, for he delights the heart of mighty Indra. Flow for us, Soma, bringing happiness to the cows; milk forth nourishing food and expand the ocean of praise that surrounds you. Purified, Soma creates a wondrous thunder in the sky, casting a vast and universal light. His exhilarating juice, O King Soma, flows freely, spreading through every stream, filling all with vitality. The skill and brilliance of the purified Soma shine forth, radiant, and his light is seen everywhere throughout the heavens. With that excellent exhilaration, Soma purifies himself as he is pressed, standing as the destroyer of evil—divine and heroic. He has slain the hostile Vṛtra and wins the prize day by day, bestowing cows and horses upon his devotees. Mingled and reddish with nourishing cows, Soma settles like an eagle in its nest. Flow on, Soma, you who aid Indra in slaying Vṛtra, who has enveloped the great waters. May we, full of praise, conquer wealth with noble sons; purified, increase our songs. With your help and favor, Soma, may we be victorious, overcoming obstacles—be vigilant in your vows. Soma flows, driving away hostilities and removing obstacles as he journeys to Indra's abode. O Purifying One, bring us great wealth; drive away our foes, O Indu, and grant us renowned strength filled with heroes. Not even a hundred treasures can diminish you, O giver of gifts, when you, purified, delight in the offering. Continue to flow, O Indu, strong and pressed; grant us fame among people and drive away all hatreds. In your friendship, O Indu, in your highest glory, may we prevail over those who contend against us. With your fearsome, sharp weapons, always ready, protect us from every harm and from the wicked. The drops of Soma, O Indu, have flowed swiftly through the filter, seeking all good fortune. Destroying many evils and making easy paths for our children, O vigorous one, you grant strength to our offspring. Making wide space for the cows, the streams move forward with praise, and we receive the gathered nourishment. This Soma, pressed for exhilaration, skilled and dwelling on the mountain, settles in its place like an eagle. The bright drop, purified by the gods' wind and pressed by men in the waters, is enjoyed by the cows with their milk. Then, like horses, the pressers adorn the immortal Soma with the essence of honey in the shared feast. Your streams, O Indu, flowing with honey for aid, have reached the filter. Soma flows for Indra to drink, passing through the unshorn hairs, and sits in the woods in his resting place. Flow around, O Indu, most sweet for the Angirases; grant wide space, clarified butter, and milk. This wise and purifying Soma is set in motion, shining forth and pouring out a vast, ancient stream. This bull, with the vow of a bull, purifying and destroyer of curses, grants wealth to the worshipper. Flow for us a thousandfold wealth, rich in cows and horses, shining before us, much to be desired. Soma is poured out, purified by the pressings, wide-striding and wise in thought. A thousand streams, a hundredfold in gifts—this wise one, swift through the spaces, inspired thought flows for Indra. Born of the chant and praised here, the drop is prepared for Indra like a hero at the dwelling of strength. Purified by men, Soma, pressed, rushes forth like a prize, taking his seat with power among the hosts. On the triple-backed, triple-yoked chariot, the seven inspired thoughts of the seers harness him for the journey. The pourers urge him, swift and seeking wealth, to speed on for the prize—press the bay, the prize-winner. The pressed Soma enters the vessel, all beauties streaming around him; like a champion, he stands among the kine. To you, O drop, for exhilaration, the streams milk forth their essence—sweetness for the gods among the gods. Let the Soma, most sweet, flow to us through the filter, most renowned among the gods. These Somas have flowed forth, praised for great glory, with the stream of the most exhilarating, blessing all who partake with their divine presence.
