Soma, the conqueror of cows and horses, the victor over all and in every battle, began to flow forth, carrying with him treasures abundant in offspring. His stream moved for the undeceivable, for the plants that cover the earth, and for the wise women, blessing all with his presence. Purified and radiant, Soma crossed over every evil, and, like a sage, took his seat upon the sacred grass. Born anew, he shone with light, becoming great—Indu, reaching out to all things. The singers raised their voices in the Gayatri meter, praising the purified, wise one—Indu, the thousand-eyed. To him, with a thousand eyes and a thousand strengths, the devoted passed beyond every barrier. Purified, Soma crossed those barriers, rushing toward the vessels, entering the very heart of Indra. For Indra’s favor, he flowed, wise and generous, bringing wealth rich in offspring. Indu, delighting in intoxication, flowed around the filter, having brought down the nine rivers. At once, for Divodasa, he destroyed Shambara, and then Turvasha and Yadu. Pouring around his devotees, Indu bestowed riches—winning horses, cows, gold, streaming forth in thousands. His worshippers chose his friendship, ascending to the filter, seeking his graciousness through the forceful streams that flowed from it. As Purifier, Soma brought wealth rich in heroes and food, granting it everywhere as the lord of all. Ten swift ones cleansed the mother river, praised together by the Adityas. The pressed Soma flowed with Indra and Vayu through the filter, joined with the rays of the Sun. For prosperity, Soma flowed for Vayu, for Pūṣan, rich in sweetness, and lovely for Mitra and Varuṇa as well. High in the sky, his birth was placed, granting fierce protection and great renown. With Soma, the noble one, his devotees sought all the splendors of humankind, striving for conquest. He flowed for Indra, worthy of worship, for Varuṇa, for the Maruts, pouring forth wide paths. Born pure, filtered with cows, adorned with fragments, the gods approached Soma. Their songs nourished him, as cows nurture a calf, delighting Indra’s heart. Soma flowed, bringing happiness to the cow, milking nourishing food, increasing the ocean of praise. Purified, he created wondrous thunder in the sky and a vast, universal light. The exhilarating juice of king Soma flowed unimpeded, spreading through every stream. His radiant skill shone forth, the light seen everywhere in the heavens. With excellent exhilaration, Soma purified himself, divine and heroic, destroying evil. He slew the hostile Vṛtra, winning the prize day by day, giver of cows and horses. Mingled and reddish, with nourishing cows, he settled like an eagle in its nest. Soma flowed, aiding Indra in slaying Vṛtra, who had enveloped the great waters. Full of praise, his devotees sought to conquer wealth with noble sons, increasing their songs as Soma was purified. With Soma’s help and favor, they became victorious, overcoming obstacles, as Soma remained vigilant in his vows. He flowed, driving away hostilities and obstacles, journeying to Indra’s abode. The Purifying One brought great wealth, drove away foes, and granted renowned strength filled with heroes. Not even a hundred treasures could diminish Soma, the generous giver, who, purified, delighted in the offering. Indu flowed strong and pressed, granting fame among people and driving away all hatreds. In his friendship and highest glory, his devotees prevailed over those who contended against them. With his fearsome, sharp weapons, ever ready, Soma protected from every harm and from the wicked. Swift drops of Indu flowed through the filter, seeking all good fortune. Destroying many evils, Soma made easy paths for children, granting strength to the offspring of his devotees. Thus, Soma’s sacred journey continued, blessing all who honored him with prosperity, protection, and abundance.
