In the vast expanse of the earth, there exists a wise protector, one who understands the intricate dance of gods and mortals alike. This guardian, knowing the cycles of night and day, guides the chariot of truth, ever steadfast and unyielding. Seated in the light, he embodies the role of the priest, accomplishing all that is righteous and true. In the meadows and forests, praise is offered, and all beings bring their tributes to the shining one, honoring him as sons honor their fathers, with offerings steeped in knowledge. He stands firm, not consumed by greed, a hero among heroes, formidable in the face of challenges. The eager sisters, like cows at dawn, approach this radiant being, their eternal lord, giving birth to him in secret, nurturing the divine essence. The steadfast Angiras, with their powerful hymns, broke through the barriers of the world, creating a pathway to the vast heavens, while the dawns heralded the arrival of a new day. These ancient ones, generous in their desires, uphold the truth and enrich the insight of the wise. The waters, tireless in their journey, contribute to the birth of the gods through their ceaseless efforts. When Mātariśvan, the carrier, churned the waters, the noble one emerged in every household, a king of might, while the Bhṛgus took on the role of messenger, carrying forth the divine will. In this sacred realm, the swift-footed Pṛśanya sent forth brilliant light, a gift from the heavens to the great Father, ensuring that the shining one could accept our homage, whether worshipped or not. Agni, the eternal flame, became the lord of riches, guiding the chariot of wealth with a double shelter, as all clans sought him, just as seven mighty rivers flow to the ocean. With wisdom and strength, Agni became the messenger, distributing the portions of life to all. As the pure ones worshipped Agni with offerings of ghee, they were blessed with worthy names and forms, while the Rudriyas took up the sacred sacrifice, bridging the realms of heaven and earth. Together, they recognized the hidden steps of the divine, guarding the immortal and protecting the cattle, both those that stand and those that move. Agni, knowing the paths of all peoples, became the tireless messenger, guiding the self-born rivers that flowed from the heavens, while Sarama discovered the hidden cattle, allowing humanity to partake in their bounty. Those who established lordships paved the way to immortality, as Aditi, the nurturing mother, embraced her sons, spreading loveliness upon the world. In this cosmic order, Agni, like a wise guide and a gracious guest, leads the householder safely across the challenges of life. He embodies the spirit of Savitar, bringing forth all peoples with true thought and benevolence. As the protector of the earth, he stands like a king, a true friend, sheltering those who seek his guidance. In every home, men gather around Agni, kindled in their enduring abodes, bestowing glory upon him, who is the universal support and the foundation of riches. The generous among us spread their gifts, while the wise distribute life, seeking strength in the assembly and sharing our offerings with the gods for renown. The cows of truth nourish us, and in our quest for favor, we find ourselves blending the distinct forms of night and dawn. Agni enriches those who seek him, and we aspire to be among the generous, as he protects the world, upholding the earth, heaven, and the midspace. With his help, may we conquer our challenges, whether they be horses, men, or heroes, and swiftly win the riches that await us. Let these praises, dear Agni, resonate within your heart and mind, as we strive to attain enduring wealth, favored by the gods. As we approach the sacred sacrifice, we offer our chants to Agni, the ancient one who has journeyed among peoples, safeguarding the lives of the worshippers. Let all beings declare the glory of Agni, the slayer of Vṛtra, the victorious one who brings prosperity through the offerings we make. In this divine communion, we find our strength, guided by the light of Agni, the eternal flame of creation and sustenance.
