As dawn breaks, the swift and impetuous ones surge forward, much like lowing cows, driving away the darkness that clings like a black skin. The seekers yearn for a well-being that is difficult to attain, relying on the strong ones who conquer the unrighteous foe. In the hush of the morning, the sound of the powerful and purifying one echoes, reminiscent of rain, while flashes of lightning dart across the sky. "O Indu," the prayers call, "flow toward us with abundant wealth—bring cows, gold, horses, and prizes, O pressed one." The wise Soma is invited to fill the vast worlds, shining like the rays of dawn and the sun, and to envelop all with his sheltering stream, covering the earth as a river does with its nourishing juice. Soma, the tawny one clad in waters, generates the lights of heaven and brings forth the sun in the waters, moving with purpose. This ancient god, purified for the gods, flows in a mighty stream. With a thousandfold strength, the Somas are purified for increase and for the winning of prizes. Around the filter, he is poured, milking the ancient, proper essence, while the gods cry out, celebrating his generation. Soma, the purifier, grown in truth, flows over all that is desirable and over the gods themselves. "Grant us," the prayers continue, "food, cows, heroes, horses, and prizes, O pressed one; flow with great riches." He, like a swift racer, is cleansed by the cows for exhilaration, and the people set forth Soma with their songs. All inspired hymns adorn the sacred drop, preparing it for Indra to drink. Purifying himself, Soma advances, eager and refined by songs, honored as the guest of the inspired sage. "O Pavamana Soma," they pray, "grant us radiant wealth, splendid and brilliant, with a thousandfold shine." The drop, like a swift horse seeking a prize, moves through the filter as the god-loving one flows. Soma is called to flow for strength and for the increase of the singer who praises, granting heroic power. "O drop," the prayers continue, "extend yourself for us, great one, shining forth like a wave; approach the gods, O vigorous one." Favored by thought and established by insight, Soma flows afar, the sage guided by the stream of inspiration. This pressed Soma, vigilant among the gods, comes through the filter, moving among men. He purifies himself, bringing prizes and creating a beautiful sacrifice, inviting those rich in offerings. May this wise and ever-strengthening Soma choose Bhaga and Vayu as friends for us among the gods. Today, knowing wealth and bestowing wisdom, may he grant us riches and great fame. Soma is purified for exhilaration, shining for human vision and the favor of the gods, prepared for Indra to drink. He flows to fulfill his mission, delighting Indra and choosing the gods as friends, the best among them. The reddish one is adorned with cows for exhilaration, and the prayers ask for abundant, far-reaching wealth. The prize-seeker crosses the filter like a racer at the yoke; Indu becomes lord among the gods. Together, the companions sound, playing in the wood, seeking the drop with the vessel. With the stream that brings discernment when drunk, Soma purifies himself for praise and heroic power. They stream forth for the divine offering, flowing like skilled deeds, swelling from the mountains. The purified drops of Soma, like a woman with her ancestral line, flow toward Vāyu. These pressed juices, rich in strength, increase Indra with their actions. "O bright ones with good hands," the prayers call, "come forth; seize the clear one with the strainer, press out the juice with cows." Soma, winner of wealth and bestower of bounty, is asked to flow on and be the guide to the goal. Ten pourers cleanse this purifying Soma, the exhilarating delight, for Indra. Soma, through right action, grows even greater, stirred to overflow with exhilaration. His deeds are accomplished; he considers the destruction of the foe, eager for debts to be paid. From Soma comes the powerful essence, the thunderbolt, a thousandfold, and for him the hymn is born. The sage, in the act of distribution, seeks the treasure for the inspired one, when thoughts are purified. Thus, through these sacred flows and prayers, Soma is celebrated—purifier, giver of wealth, friend of gods, and source of inspiration, strength, and divine favor.
