The sacred Soma, mighty as a bull and conqueror of Vritra, surges forth, granting vast space to the worshippers. Like a powerful steed, it rushes to strength, bestowing its energy upon those who honor it. Driven by the wisdom of the sages, this divine drop hastens toward the vessels, bearing its greatness for Indra. Unwearied, Soma flows as a chariot, offering protection and striving for the thousandfold prize. The tawny maiden of Trita presses it with stones, preparing the invigorating drop for Indra’s delight. Ten radiant fingers cleanse this tawny one, adorning it for exhilaration, making it shine in readiness. Among men, Soma sits like an eagle in their assemblies, advancing with the fervor of a lover toward his beloved. The exhilarating juice, child of heaven, reveals itself as it enters the shelter, ready for drinking. The pressed, tawny Soma rushes forth, powerful and eager, crying out as it moves toward the beloved womb. Inspired and radiant, Soma is called to the place where the gods joyfully proclaim, “He has come.” Cleansing what is uncleansed and guiding the people, it dispels darkness and pours down the rain of heaven. Through the filter, the pressed Soma emerges, bearing brilliance and strength, discerning and shining forth. Swiftly moving, it flows around the sky, pouring out waves like a river. From afar and near, Soma is poured as honey for Indra. In harmony, the tawny one is pressed with stones and settles in the womb of the covering. The purifier, wise and steadfast, moves forward, overcoming all hostilities. The inspired ones adorn the sage Soma with their thoughts. The reddish, pressed Soma ascends to the womb, settling firmly with Indra. O mighty Indu, pour forth abundant wealth from all sides; flow for us, bringing thousands. Grant us all glories with your streams, O purifier, and wealth of thousands. Bring us wealth for praise and heroic strength, O purifier, and increase the singer’s songs. With double force, O strong Indu, grant us riches worthy of praise. Like lowing cows, the swift and impetuous ones advance, striking away the darkness. We seek the well-being that is hard to cross, the strength to overcome lawless foes. The sound of the powerful, purifying one resounds like rain, with lightning flashing in the sky. Flow for us, O Indu, with great wealth—cows, gold, horses, and prizes, O pressed one. Fill the great worlds, O wise one, like the rays of dawn and the sun. Surround us, O Soma, on all sides with your sheltering flow, covering the earth like a river with your juice. Generating the lights of heaven and the sun in the waters, the tawny Soma, clad in waters, moves. With ancient wisdom, this god is purified for the gods, flowing with a strong stream. The Somas, with thousandfold strength, are purified for increase and for winning the prize. Milking the ancient, proper milk, Soma is poured around the filter, crying out as the gods generate him. Grown with truth, Soma the purifier flows over all desirable things and over the gods. Grant us, O Soma, food with cows, heroes, horses, and prizes; flow with great riches, O pressed one. Like a racer cleansed by cows for exhilaration, Soma is set forth with our songs. All our inspired hymns adorn the drop for Indra to drink. Purifying himself, Soma advances, eager and refined by songs, honored as the guest of the inspired sage. O Pavamana Soma, grant us wealth that is splendid and radiant, a drop with thousandfold brilliance. Like a swift horse seeking the prize, the drop moves through the filter when the god-loving ones flow. Flow for the gaining of strength, for the increase of the singer who praises; grant us heroic power, Soma. O radiant drop, extend yourself for us, shining forth like a wave, and approach the gods, O vigorous one. Favored by thought and established by insight, Soma flows afar, the sage carried by the inspired one’s stream.
