Upon the radiant Soma, the sacred drops are placed, marking him for the singer—the one who is our helper and guide. Just as the Rbhus, those divine craftsmen, assemble a new chariot, so too do these drops set the sign for the singer; they shine brightly, purified and spotless. These powerful ones have awakened, reaching their destined goal; with their strength, they have bestowed insight upon the one who exists. Now, these energetic Somas surge forward like swift chariots, eager for the prize; their liberated streams hasten on their course. They resound like the rushing winds, like the nourishing rains of Parjanya, swirling like the flames of Agni, moving freely and joyously. These purified and wise Somas, bearing the head of Dadhya, send their thoughts far and wide across the worlds. Having been created immortal and pure, they do not grow weary; their desires propel them along the paths of the atmosphere. Moving apart, they stretch the backs of the two worlds, reaching the highest region. Weaving the highest thread, they seek the way forward, attaining the supreme goal. O Soma, you bring forth wealth from the merchants and cattle; you stretch the sacred thread, making it resound with power. The Somas flow forth, eager and strong, filled with honeyed delight and exhilaration, embracing all sacred works. Ancient streams follow a newer path; by their radiance, they have even produced the sun itself. O Purifying One, grant us life, bestow upon us offspring and nourishment, for we are generous and undaunted. The Somas, those flowing streams, are purified and filled with intoxicating delight, filling the vessel with honeyed sweetness. Soma flows, sustaining strength and essence, the mighty one who protects against all malediction. Soma, you are purified for Indra and the gods, a companion at the feast, ever seeking the prize. When Indra has drunk of your exhilaration, unconquered, he strikes down his foes time and again. The Somas flow forth along their courses, the purifying Indu streams cleansing the shining ones in the waters. The cows, too, flow along their paths like rivers; the purified ones seek Indra. O Purifying One, you flow on your course for Indra to drink, led forth by men. Soma, delighting humankind, you flow for the support of the tribes, enduring and worthy of praise. When pressed with stones, O Indu, you run through the filter, fit for Indra’s abode. Flow, slayer of Vṛtra, with hymns—pure, radiant, and wondrous. Pure and radiant, Soma is called the pressed honey; godly and heroic, destroyer of evil speech. Flow forth, O tawny one, accomplishing skill for the gods’ drinking; your exhilaration is for the Maruts and for Vayu. O Pavamana, set in motion by thought, roaring, enter your womb; by your law, enter into Vayu. With the gods, the mighty poet shines, beloved in his womb, the slayer of Vṛtra, most worthy of the gods. Purified, he enters all forms, moving with delight to where the immortals are seated. The ruddy Soma, generating songs, flows for long life, the wise one journeying to Indra. Flow forth, most exhilarating sage, through the filter; you have sat in the womb of the hymn. The inspired ones cleanse this strong steed, Soma, in the lap of Aditi, with subtle thought. The cows approach him, the thousand-streamed, unfailing drop, the supporter of heaven. That wise one, purified, is praised with intelligence in the sky, the supporter, rich in gifts. Him, ever-renewed, companion of the radiant one, lord of speech, unassailable, they praise with their thoughts. To him, the tawny one, the wives press with stones upon the mountain—the delightful, far-seeing one. You, O Pavamana, are pressed by the wise, growing with song, O exhilarating drop for Indra. This sage, highly praised, delights upon the filter; purified, he drives away all obstacles. He, accomplishing skill, is poured out in the filter for Indra and Vayu, the bringer of light. Led by men, the bull, pressed Soma, knower of all, is the head of heaven in the woods. Longing for cows, he roars—Pavamana, golden-hued, the victorious drop in the assembly, swift and triumphant.
