With skilled resolve and following the path of the wise, the seekers set forth, yearning for the cows and joining in the exhilarating drink. They prepare to release Soma, that precious, unattained nectar, which is difficult to cross within the waters. Through the sacred filter, they purify it, making it ready for Indra to enjoy. Soma, with the mind of the purifier, flows through the filter with determination and settles in his seat. With reverence, the drops of Soma stream forth for Indra, offered as a great sacrifice by the makers. Purifying himself, Soma remains unchanging, flowing through all splendors; like a hero, he stands among the cows. The stream of Soma, pressed and creative, flows freely through the filter, nourishing like the ridge of heaven. Wise and self-purifying, Soma drives away all coverings, letting the waters flow unhindered. Like rivers descending and striking obstacles, the swift streams of Soma press onward, their journey marked by the pressing stones. The well-pressed drops rush toward Indra, like rains falling upon the earth, moving with purpose. Soma flows through the filter, exhilarating and joyful, destroying demons with divine action. He rushes into the vessels, poured around the purifier, and grows with hymns in the sacrifices. Soma surpasses the three luminous realms; rising, he shines in the sky and urges on the sun with his desire. The sages sing forth, the makers of sacrifice at its summit, placing what is dear before Soma’s gaze. The strong Soma is cleansed by men with their thoughts, wise ones seeking help for the purpose of divinity. Let the intense stream of honey flow, settling into its seat, beautiful for truth and for drinking. Pressed Soma flows around the mountain peaks in the purifier; he is present in all delights. Soma is the sage, the poet, sweet and born of exhilarating juice, present in all delights. All the gods together desire his drinking; he is present in all delights. He who has placed all desirable treasures in his hands—Soma is present in all delights. He who milks the vast earth and heaven together, as a mother, is present in all delights. Swiftly moving around both earth and heaven with prizes, Soma is present in all delights. Powerful and purified in the vessels, Soma cries aloud, present in all delights. O Soma, whatever splendid hymn or wealth, divine or earthly, bring that to us, purified. Indra and Soma, lords of light and guardians of cattle, nourish our thoughts as masters. The bull, purified and thundering with life, settles upon the grass; the tawny one approaches his dwelling. Thoughts stir in the seed of the bull, mothers of the calf, the son. Perhaps the purified one places the embryo in the fertile ones, those who milk the bright milk. Learned ones approach, standing firm, placing fear among enemies; the purified one grants wealth. O Soma, cast down the strength, vigor, and vitality of the enemy, whether far or near. The inspired sage, for the favor of the gods, flows forth unimpeded with his streams, confronting all rivals. He brings to the singers wealth abounding in cattle—a thousandfold prize, O Purifying One. With his mind, Soma examines all things as he is purified, granting renown. He flows forth with great glory, bringing steadfast wealth to the generous and nourishment to the singers. Soma, of good resolve, enters the songs like a king, a wondrous fire. That fire, Soma, hard to overcome in the waters, is cleansed between the hands and settles in the vessels. Playful, like one who delights in festivity, Soma reaches the filter, granting heroic strength to the hymn. Swift drops of Soma, eager for Indra and full of zest, knowing the light, run forth. Choosing their own, overcoming adversaries, and knowing the path to rest, they themselves create vigor for the hymn. In vain the drops play, coming together on the seat, pouring out waves from the river. These purifying ones have sought all desirable things, like well-yoked horses on a chariot, racing toward their goal.
