We, the devoted singers, raise our voices to you, O Indra, for apart from you—O much-invoked one—there is no other who is as generous, no other who stands as our true helper. In our need, we turn to you: drive away from us all want, hunger, and curses. Bestow your aid upon us, and with your wondrous, powerful thought, teach us the right path to walk. Let the Soma, pressed and prepared for you, be ready, and let no fear trouble us, your companions. The evil one, sensing your might, withdraws and departs from among us. Now, O Ādityas, great rulers of order, we seek your favor, your graciousness, and your blessing. May Mitra, Varuṇa, and Aryaman, with their wisdom and care, guide us safely past all distress, for you know the way. Your protection is wondrous, your shelter glorious for those who worship you. We choose your guardianship, O mighty Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman, for your aid is great. O Ādityas, always defend us, the living, from sudden harm. You who hear our invocations, grant us shelter and protection, especially for the weary one who presses the Soma in your honor. If such refuge exists, speak in our favor and grant it to us. For the innocent, O gods, you provide broad refuge and abundant treasure. The Ādityas are wondrous and sinless, their shelter never failing. May no barrier restrain us from your grace; may the great one choose us for his favor. Indra is renowned and powerful. Let not the malice of our enemies or the snares of the wicked reach us, O gods; protect us thoroughly on every side. And to you, O Aditi, great mother goddess, we offer our prayer for graciousness and blessing. Lead us out from misery, from deep distress, from those who wish to harm the fierce-born among us; let no harm come to our offspring. Make our path like one without obstacles, wide and open for our children and for the fullness of life. May those who lead the people—faultless, self-glorious, steadfast in their vows and free from deceit—set the example. Just as Aditi releases the bound thief, so may the Ādityas release us from the bonds of wolves and all dangers. O Ādityas, let all sharp pain and evil intention be washed away from us, and may those who attack us depart. Throughout the past and into the present, your generous aids have always protected us, O Ādityas. Even against recurring sins, you, the wise gods, act for the well-being of the living. Grant us, O Ādityas, that new release which you bestow—like a bound one freed from bondage—may it be ours. We know our limits, O Ādityas, and cannot cross them without your grace; be merciful to us. Let not the weapon of Vivasvat, nor any artificial arrow, strike us down before our time, before old age. Dispel from us all hatred, hostility, enmity, and every great sin in every direction, O Ādityas. Once more, we turn our chariot to you, Indra, as to a dear friend, seeking your favor. You are most mighty, lord of all good, strong and victorious. Your energy is great, your deeds mighty, your wisdom spreading across the worlds. By your greatness, O powerful one, your two hands grasp the golden thunderbolt, encircling the world. We call on Viśvānar, lord of wealth, unbowed in strength, and on all the protectors of the people; we seek their aid, their chariots, for ever-growing prosperity. You, Indra, are praised in song, invoked by many prayers for help. Surpassing all, most powerful, fierce bestower of riches, you are the lord of treasures. To you, Indra, mighty for aid, master of ancient praise and leader of the people, I urge to drink the Soma. No mortal can attain your friendship by strength alone, nor can any surpass your powers. With your help, yoked beside you, may we win battles in water, in sunlight, and in the quest for great wealth, O thunderbolt-wielder. We invoke you with sacrifices and with songs, O lover of hymns, as you have always aided us in contests with abundant help. Sweet is your friendship, sweet your guidance, O stone-armed one; the sacrifice is spread for you to enjoy. Grant us wide space for our bodies, for our dwellings, for our lives, O Indra. Make wide room for men, for cattle, for chariots—may we find the path of the gods. Come, O men, with the joy of Soma; let the sweet gifts be made ready. With straight reins, O Indra, I have yoked the two bay steeds to the son of Ṛkṣa—the red ones of the horse-sacrifice. Splendid they are, O Ātithigva, shining with their own whips, adorned beautifully at the sacred rite. Thus, with reverence and hope, we call upon you, O gods, for protection, guidance, and blessing—now and always.
