O Indra, mighty hero and giver of light, we call upon you from the command of the heavens. Bring to us thousands upon thousands of cows and horses, bestow upon us your radiant treasures. Let your bounty flow in abundance—thousands, tens of thousands, and hundreds as well—at your divine command. When, O Indra, you and I together have given a thousand shining treasures, the most splendid wealth of horses and cattle, those swift as the wind, reddish and quick-moving, will shine like many suns. Among the gifts of Parāvata, amidst the swiftly running chariots with wheels, standing in the heart of the forest, your presence is felt. Now, let the sacred gathering be adorned by the presence of the gods. With Agni, Indra, Varuṇa, Viṣṇu, the Ādityas, Rudras, and Vasus united, together with Uṣas, the Dawn, and Sūrya, the Sun, let the Aśvins come to drink the pressed Soma. With all wise thoughts, with the world and its swiftness, with heaven, earth, and mountains united, let the Aśvins partake of the Soma, together with Uṣas and Sūrya. Joined by all the gods, the three and the eleven, with the Maruts and Bhṛgus, let the Aśvins, accompanied by Dawn and Sun, drink the Soma. May you, O Aśvins, accept our sacrifice and be mindful of our invocation; come together to the pressing of the Soma, and bestow your favor with Uṣas and Sūrya. Accept the hymn and the praise sung by the young maiden; approach the offerings, delight in our songs, and find joy in the ritual. Like birds with yellow plumage, you fly through the forest; like a buffalo, you come to the pressed Soma. Like swans you glide, like travelers on the path, and like eagles you soar for the offering, always coming to the Soma, together with Dawn and Sun, turning thrice in your chariot. Drink and be satisfied, O Aśvins; grant us offspring and wealth, and bestow upon us strength. Win and protect what is praised, strike down our enemies, extend friendship, and grant us your blessings. With Mitra and Varuṇa, with righteousness and the Maruts, you answer the singer’s call; with the Angirases, with Viṣṇu and the Maruts, and with the Ṛbhus, strong and full of vigor, you come, ever accompanied by Dawn and Sun, in the company of the Ādityas. Inspire our prayers and thoughts, strike down demons, and drive away misfortune. Inspire power and men, inspire the cows and the people, always dispelling evil as you come to the one pressing Soma, together with Dawn and Sun. As you once listened to the ancient praise of Atri, so now attend to the exhilarating song of Śyāvāśva as he presses Soma, through the day, with Dawn and Sun. Let your well-praised gifts flow like streams, like rays direct your bounty to the ritual, and guide your chariot forward to drink the honeyed Soma. We call upon you, seeking your help—grant treasures to the worshipper. With words of homage at the beginning of the rite, for the drinking of the desired Soma, come, O Aśvins. Rejoice, O divine pair, in the Soma offered with the invocation ‘svāhā’; approach, for we call upon you for help—grant treasures to the worshipper. O Indra, protector of the one who presses Soma and spreads the sacred grass, drink the Soma for exhilaration, O wielder of the hundred powers. The share set aside for you by all the hosts of warriors, strong in battle, awaits you—O Indra, lord of the good, victorious with the Maruts. The singer has brought you forward anew, generous one, and the gods, with strength and aid, have called you forth. Creator of heaven and earth, creator of horses and cows, drink the Soma for exhilaration. For the praise of the Atris, O destroyer of foes, be magnified. As you heard the pressing of Śyāvāśva, so listen now, just as you once listened to the deeds of Atri performing the rites. You alone, O Indra, protected Trasadasyu, subduing men and exalting the hymns. You have aided this hymn in the battles against Vritra; come, O Indra, lord of might, with all your aids to the one who presses Soma. Slayer of Vritra, at the midday pressing, drink the Soma today, O wielder of the bolt. You, mighty one, withstand the hosts of foes, sole ruler of the moving world, standing firm and driving away enemies. O Indra, lord of might, with all your aids, come and drink the Soma, O slayer of Vritra, wielder of the bolt.
