He who dedicates himself to the sacred rites—offering sacrifices, pressing the Soma, and preparing the ritual fire—reveals his devotion to Indra by his sacred words and actions. When one presents the sacrificial cake and swiftly offers Soma to Shakra, Indra, moved by such offerings, delivers the devotee from all distress. For such a worshipper, a radiant, divine chariot appears, guided by the gods themselves, granting him prosperity and victory over all adversaries. In his home, abundance flows unceasingly; Iḷā, the nourishing goddess, bestows her milk day after day, ensuring the household is ever rich in offspring and never wanting. When spouses, united in mind and purpose, join together to press the Soma and hasten to the sacrifice, the gods grant them enduring blessings. The noble ones, steadfast in their devotion, gather at the well-arranged sacrificial seat, and in the contests for wealth, they are never left behind. Such worshippers never lose the favor of the gods, nor do they become objects of dislike; instead, they shine forth with great renown. With sons and daughters adorned in golden ornaments, they enjoy the full span of life, blessed with prosperity and joy. May those who perform the rites and who have gathered wealth bring delight to us, leading us toward immortality. When the hairy covering is removed, the offering is made pure among the gods. We seek the shelter of the mountains, the rivers, and the companionship of Vishnu, choosing their protection for ourselves. May Pūṣan, along with wealth, fortune, and well-being—the all-supporting ones—come to us, and may the broad, open path lead us to happiness. Unwearied and unharmed, may all the beneficent thoughts of the gods and the Ādityas come to us without delay. As Mitra, Aryaman, and Varuṇa are our guardians, may the paths of truth be easy and straight for us. With praise, I invoke Agni, the ancient god who guards the treasures; let us worship him, beloved by many, as a friend who brings success in our endeavors. Swift is the chariot of the godly, as is the hero in any battle. He who worships the gods with devotion becomes one who conquers his adversaries. The sacrificer, the Soma-presser, and the worshipper of the gods—none of them suffer loss; with devotion, they all become victorious. No one is destroyed by their actions, nor by women, nor by desire; those who worship the gods with devotion conquer all adversaries. Here, in this sacred space, true heroism and the possession of swift horses are found; again, those devoted to the gods are triumphant. Now, O Indra, let the deeds of the Kanvas be proclaimed in song; let us speak of the exhilaration that comes from Soma. Indra, you are the one who struck down Śṛbinda, Anarśani, Pipru, and the mighty bowman Dāsa; you are the fierce one who destroyed the waters' barriers. You stretched out the vastness of Arbuda, that lofty height, O Indra, showing your great strength and manliness. To you, renowned one—bold and swift as the wind from the mountain's summit—I call for gracious aid, O well-yoked charioteer. Delighting in the Soma draughts, you break open the pens of bulls and horses, O hero, as easily as you would a fortress. If, pleased by our pressed Soma or our hymn, you have turned your mind toward us, come near with your favor. We are your singers, O Indra, lover of song; you, the drinker of Soma, make us victorious. Bring us, rejoicing, a portion that will nourish us unfailingly, for you are bountiful and possess much wealth. Grant us cattle, make us possessors of gold and horses; let us unite in strength through your gifts. We call upon Bṛhaduktha, swift in action, for aid—the one who does good for all who seek help. He, even in the midst of assembly, whose power is true—the slayer of Vṛtra—bestows wealth upon the singers. May even Śakra himself, with all his aids, bring us gifts in abundance, O Indra. He is the great protector of riches, the sure helper, the friend of the Soma-presser—let us sing to that Indra. To the mighty, steadfast helper who comes to us, famed in battles and lord of great strength, let us sing with praise. No one can restrain his powers, nor his generous words; no one can give or speak as he does. There is truly no neglect of the prayers of the priests, nor of those who press Soma; Soma is never wasted. Sing forth what is praiseworthy, declare the hymns that are worthy of praise, and perform the sacred rites with what is most excellent. May all that is praiseworthy come to you in abundance, with thousands, protected by strength—Indra, who increases the worshipper. Move freely, O Indra, according to your will among the peoples, as we have called you; come, drink of the pressed Soma. Drink with your own power, O Indra, of the Soma pressed for you, and also that which is pressed with strength—drink what is rightfully yours. Come with eager spirit to the Soma at the offering; drink this gift, this Soma, which has been prepared with devotion. Come to these three gatherings, come to the five peoples; even the cows, O Indra, have called out for you. Thus, the worshippers, with hearts full of faith and voices raised in praise, invite the gods to share in their offerings, seeking victory, prosperity, and the unending blessings of divine companionship.
