In the sacred gathering where Agni, the slayer of foes, stands exalted at the sacrifice, those who honor him prosper. Their lives are blessed with swift horses, wise companions, and heroic deeds, and their actions bear fruitful results. In the house where Agni, the all-desirable, receives praise, the offerings are accepted, and all hostility is driven away. For the inspired one who praises Agni, the mighty and most generous in gifts, Agni grants a place above mortals, revealing the wisdom of the sages. Whoever calls upon Agni, whether with offerings or reverence, invoking him with radiant words, finds in him a swift and skillful winner of strength. Those who kindle the sacred fire and serve Aditi with proper rites, dedicating all their thoughts, rise above others with splendor, crossing over obstacles as easily as crossing water in a boat. Agni, bring to us that glory by which you overcome adversaries in the assembly and quell the wrath of the people, O destroyer. By your power, O Indra, the gods Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman, the Aśvins, and Bhaga are beheld. May we, too, through your strength, perform acts of worship that lead us to the path of power. Truly wise are those who, O Agni, establish you among men, the sage who sees, guided by good counsel. These fortunate ones have built the altar and prepared the offering for Agni to taste in heaven. They have won great wealth and prizes, placing their desire in him. May Agni, when invoked, be auspicious for us; may the gifts, the sacrifice, and the praises all be auspicious. Let our minds be blessed in overcoming obstacles, as Agni prevails in battles, loosening bonds and leading abundant hosts to victory. May we win with your support, O Agni. I praise with my voice the one established by Manu, whom the gods made their swift messenger and bearer of offerings. To Agni, sharp-jawed, youthful, and shining, leader of song and adorned with fair words and strong manliness, offerings of ghee are made. When Agni is invoked with ghee, he rises high, O Bharata, like a lordly spirit at the altar. Established by Manu, Agni brings the offerings; the god with pleasant fragrance dispenses desirable treasures, the immortal priest, the deity of the right ritual. O Agni, may I, a mortal, become your friend, and you, immortal, be mine, O son of strength. Do not grant me to the curse, O gracious one, nor to evil; nor let my praiser or offspring stray far from righteousness, O Agni, nor into sin. Like a well-nourished son returning from his father’s house, O gods, let our offering come forth to us. With your nearest aids, O Agni, may I always find favor, as a mortal with the god. By your will, your gifts, and your praises, O Agni, may I gain; you are called the bestower—rejoice in giving to me, O gracious one. He advances, O Agni, with your aids, with heroic strength and prize-bearing arms, he whose friendship you protect. Your dark-hued flame, O ritual fire, is placed by the kindler; you are dear to the great dawns and rule the nights in their abodes. To him, O companions, we come for help—the thousand-strong, our own desired one, the sovereign Trasadasyu. Other fires are kindled from you, O Agni, like birds; your powers descend among the people like rays, increasing your dominions. You, O Adityas, free from falsehood, lead mortals across; generous givers, benefactors of all. You, O victorious kings, protect whomever among mortals you wish; we, O Varuna, Mitra, Aryaman, would be charioteers of truth for you. Paurukutsya gave me fifty brides of Trasadasyu; the noble lord, the true master, was most generous. And among the Prayiyas and Urvayiyas, may there be good fortune in Tugva's house; Shyava, leader of the wise, became the benefactor, lord of the inspired. Come here, do not falter; let your intentions not be divided, nor your spirits stand apart—even the firm-hearted are moved. With your shining forms, O Maruts, delighting in strength, O Rudras, with your good gifts, come to us today, eager for the offering, ever striving, O Sobharis. We know well the fierce might of the Rudrian ones, the powerful Maruts, the roaring ones, and the bounty of Vishnu. The two worlds are yoked together as the swift ones stand ready; the shining ones have traversed the fields when you, self-luminous, set forth. At your birth, even the unshaken mountains and trees tremble; the earth quivers beneath your courses. For your coming, O Maruts, the vast upper sky is stirred; men display their strength in their bodies, their skins, and the might of their arms. According to their own power, these mighty, splendid, and strong men carry their glory and undiminished strength. With cows is the offering anointed, in the chariot of the Sobharis, in the golden vessel; well-born, kin to cows, great ones, they are not to be assailed for sustenance. Offer to you, the bull-like Marut host, oblations for the strong, for the vigorous, for those eager for the offering. With bull-like horses, bull-like strength, bull-like chariot and wheels, like eagles, the swift ones, O men, come to our offering for our aid. Their ornaments are alike, shining golden on their arms; their spears flash with lightning. Fierce, bull-like, with mighty arms, none among men have equaled them; their firm bows and weapons are on their chariots, and their splendor is in their ranks.
