O generous ones, your nourishing gifts pour forth like ghee, ever increasing as the hymns of Kanva rise in devotion. Where now do you rejoice, you who delight in the sacred strewn grass? Which among the priests offers you worship, seeking your favor? Never before have you, with hymns and offerings, roused the hosts of truth so profoundly. Together, the great waters, the earths, the radiant sun, and the joints of creation have placed the thunderbolt in readiness. The mighty joints surged forth against Vṛtra; even the unyielding mountains moved, performing the heroic deed of the mighty one. Following Trita in his battle, they gained his strength and wisdom, and followed Indra in the slaying of Vṛtra. The swift, golden-crested ones flashed with lightning in their hands, revealing their shining forms for glory. When Ushanas, from afar, sought the opening of the bull, heaven did not tremble in fear. Come to us, O gods, for the distribution of the feast, riding horses whose hands are golden. When the spotted ones in the chariot are drawn by the red leader, the shining ones cleave the waters as they go. At Śaryaṇāvat, at Ārjīka, at Pastyāvat, the men gathered with their assembled hosts and went forth. When will you, O Maruts, come to the sage who calls, not abandoning him, but arriving with gracious shouts? When now, beloved ones, have you abandoned Indra? Who among you desires friendship? With your strength, O Maruts with thunderbolt in hand, the Kaṇvas praise Agni, adorned with golden mantles. May the mighty ones, ready for sacrifice, grant us splendid wealth, ever increasing, with brilliant steeds. Even the mountains are split apart and the proud subdued; even the mountains are restrained. Those who travel with swift wings, flying through the mid-air, praise the supporter. For Agni is born as the ancient one, like the sun with his flame; by their rays they have spread out. Now, O Ashvins, wondrous ones with golden wheels, come to us with all your aids, and drink the Soma mead. Come with your chariot shining like the sun, with strong, golden-adorned arms, O wise ones of deep thought. Come, O Ashvins, on Nahusha’s path from the midspace, with splendid praises; drink the sweet soma pressed for you by the Kanvas at the sacrifice. Come to us from the sky, from the midspace, O beloved Ashvins; here the son of Kanva has pressed the soma, your honeyed drink. Having heard our call, come to us to drink the soma; you who increase the praise, O wise ones, with your thoughts and the cry of ‘svaha.’ For even in the past, O Ashvins, seers have invoked you for help; so come to this excellent praise. Even from the shining heaven above, come to us, O givers of light, with wise thoughts, with praises, you who are invoked at the offering. Why do others linger with our praises, O Ashvins? The son of Kanva, your seer, the calf, has grown strong with songs. To you both, the inspired one has called for help with praises; O irresistible slayers of Vritra, be gracious to us, bringers of joy. When your chariot, yoked with swift steeds, was mounted by a maiden, you both went forth to all those deeds with your thoughts. From here, O Ashvins, come with your chariot of a thousand courses; your calf, the honey-voiced poet, has called upon you. Most delightful, possessing many treasures, bestowers of wealth, may you attend to this praise with favor. Grant us all blessings without delay; fulfill for us the rites, do not withhold your favor. Wherever you are, O Nasatyas, whether far or in the sky, from there, come with your chariot of a thousand courses. To your seer, the calf, who has grown strong with songs, grant the thousandfold, ghee-flowing bounty. Bestow upon him the ghee-flowing strength; to him who has rejoiced in your favor and seeks wealth. Come to us, delighting in praise, O Ashvins, you who enjoy much; grant us splendid gifts, bestow upon us what is desired. With all your aids, Priyamedha has called you; O kings of the rituals, come to our invocations. Bring joy and happiness to your calf, who has grown strong with inspired thoughts and songs. By the means with which you protected Kanva, Medhatithi, Vasha, Dashavraja, and Gosharya, O Ashvins, protect us now. With those means by which you aided Trasadasyu in the contest for wealth, protect us now for the gaining of strength. May your praises, your well-composed hymns, rise up, O Ashvins; victorious over many foes, be greatly desired by us in many places.
