For the sake of those for whom the very two worlds were brought into being, for whom the divine Dhiṣaṇā bestows her abundant riches, the swift teams are harnessed and yoked to Vāyu, the radiant and wealth-bringing one. As the Dawns rise, they usher in fair days and reveal the broad expanse of light. Their shining presence spreads widely, and even the cows disperse across the open fields, while the waters flow along their destined courses. With true intent and by their own will, these shining beings harness themselves to bear the chariot of Indra and Vāyu, filling it with heroes. The swift teams unite, joining together in service to these mighty lords. Indra and Vāyu, who possess the sun, cattle, horses, riches, and gold, are invincible in battle, conquering all life with their powerful steeds and valorous followers. Like swift horses seeking glory, the Vasiṣṭhas sing your praises, O Indra and Vāyu, with beautiful hymns. We call upon you for strength and good fortune; may you always shield us with your blessings and well-being. Who can truly know those ancient gods, flawless and mighty, who were honored with deep reverence? It was they who caused the Dawn to rise for Vāyu and for Manu, who had been oppressed, together with the Sun. The shining messengers—those undeceivable guardians—kept watch over the months and the many seasons. O Indra and Vāyu, your praise is ever new; I seek your gracious favor and fresh prosperity. Rich in food and wisdom, increasing wealth and shining in their glory, the teams stand forth in abundance, united in purpose for Vāyu. All the men perform their lordly deeds in their honor. As far as your bodies reach, as great as your strength, as far as your vision shines, O Indra and Vāyu, come and drink the pure Soma with delight; sit here upon this sacred grass. Yoke your splendid teams, O Indra and Vāyu, and come together on one chariot. For this, your foremost portion of the sweet offering, let your favor flow to us. Hundreds and thousands of your swift, perfect teams accompany you; with these, come hither, full of wisdom, and drink the mead we have prepared, O heroes. Like eager seekers of fame, the Vasiṣṭhas call upon you, O Indra and Vāyu, with well-praised hymns. We strive for your strength and favor; may you always protect us with your blessings. Come, O Vāyu, delighting in the pure, to our presence. Your thousands of perfect teams approach, drawn by the intoxicating drink I have prepared for you, O ancient god—the draught you have always accepted. The swift-pouring one is ready at the sacrifice, eager to offer Soma for Indra and Vāyu to drink, as the priests, with devotion and skill, present the foremost draught of the mead. With those teams by which you come to the worshipper’s home, O Vāyu, desiring the offering, grant us wealth with good portions, and bestow upon us heroic strength, cattle, and horses. You, O Vāyu and Indra, delighting in Soma, are truly noble gods, eager for the offering. With your heroes, may we, too, be victorious, conquering foes in battle. Come to our sacrifice with your hundreds and thousands of teams, O Vāyu, and rejoice in this libation. May you always protect us with blessings. Indra and Agni, slayers of Vṛtra, may you accept this pure, freshly born hymn. I call upon you both, easy to invoke, so that you may swiftly bestow strength upon the eager. You are mighty, ever-growing together in power, dwelling in the house of abundant food. Grant us the ancient and glorious strength, rich in horses. When the wise, desiring distinction, approach the assembly with hymns—like eager racers striving for the goal—they call upon you, O Indra and Agni. The inspired one, seeking distinction, prays for wealth and renowned, ancient gifts. O Indra and Agni, strong-armed slayers of Vṛtra, grant us new and excellent blessings. When two mighty hosts contend, set in motion by the strength of their heroic leader, then, O gods, join the worshippers in the assembly and together destroy the godless with the Soma-pressing people. Come, O Indra and Agni, to this Soma-pressing for our good favor; you never neglect us, and may your steeds always return with prizes. O Agni, kindled with reverence, call upon Mitra, Varuṇa, and Indra. Forgive whatever offense we have committed; may Aryaman and Aditi release us from it. With these eager offerings, O Agni, may we, together with you two youthful gods, attain the prizes. May Indra, Viṣṇu, and the Maruts surround us; may you always protect us with blessings. This is your ancient praise, O Indra and Agni, born from my thought like rain from a cloud. Hear the singer’s call, O Indra and Agni, and accept our songs; as lords, fill our thoughts with abundance. Do not bring us to evil or reproach, nor harm us in our dwelling. To Indra and Agni, we offer great and well-spoken praise with reverence; with wisdom and the milk-giving cow, we seek your aid. The inspired ones always invoke you for help, for strength and wealth. With eager and skillful songs, we call upon you both, striving for wisdom and seeking reward. Indra and Agni, come with your assistance, you who support the people; let no evil speech have power over us. Let not the hostile intent or harm of any mortal approach us; grant us your protection. Whether it be wealth with cows, gold, or horses that we seek from you, may we obtain it, O Indra and Agni. When the Soma is pressed, men call upon you, honoring you with seven offerings. With hymns and joyful songs, you slayers of the foe are summoned with loud cries. Thus, destroy the evil-minded, the ignorant, the demon; strike down the enemy and the abyss with your power. Sarasvati, with her waves and current, flows forth as the mighty river, bearing her stronghold. Advancing like a charioteer, she moves, surpassing all other rivers in greatness. Sarasvati alone among rivers is pure, flowing from the mountains to the sea; she brings wealth to the world, and for Nahusha, she has milked ghee and sweet nourishment. He has grown strong among noble women—a bull, a child, a mighty one among those worthy of sacrifice. He gives prizes to the generous and, for distribution, has adorned his form. Thus, the hymns praise the gods and rivers, seeking their blessings, wealth, strength, and protection, and honoring their ancient, radiant glory.
