You shine forth, O Maruts, most splendid and desirable among the deities, radiant in your beauty, united in glory, and mighty with strength. Formidable and awe-inspiring, your power is fierce and unwavering, your energies enduring through all things. The host of the Maruts is exceedingly mighty, their force brilliant and their wrath intense. Your minds are ever-stirring, like a sage rousing the might of a troop, ready for action. May your lightning, O Maruts, keep us safe from harm; let not your ill will draw near to us here. I call upon your beloved names, swift ones, you Maruts who delight in the offerings. Armed with your own weapons and adorned with shining ornaments, you each display your unique form, resplendent and radiant. Pure are your offerings among the pure, O Maruts; to you I present a pure sacrifice. By truth, you approach the true rite, born pure, pure and radiant. Upon your shoulders, Maruts, rest your ornaments; on your breasts, golden decorations gleam. Like flashes of lightning with showers, you shine forth, moving in ordered ranks, bearing your weapons. Your great deeds are awakened and your names proclaimed in the sacred rites. Accept this thousandfold, noble share, this household portion, O Maruts. If you heed the praise of the one who lauds you, inspired and strong in sacrifice, then swiftly grant us wealth and heroic strength; let not another surpass us, O roaring ones. Like swift, adorned horses, like young men shining in appearance, you dwell in splendid palaces, bright as calves, playful as frolicking milk-fed young. Favour us, O Maruts; grant us mercy and make the two worlds easy to traverse. Let your slaughter be far from cattle and men; with goodwill, O Vasus, accept our homage. The priest, seated, calls you with praise, O Maruts, seeking your generous gifts. He who is eager, strong, and a protector invokes you with hymns. You Maruts bring strength and bow to might; you protect the praise of the worshipper, warding off heavy hatred and placing it upon the hostile. You even help the weak, O Vasus, favouring the humble. Drive away all darkness, mighty ones, and grant us offspring and descendants. Let not your gifts be withdrawn from us, O Maruts; let us not come last in the division of wealth. Bestow upon us the desirable share, O Vasus, if your manly power is well-born. When people unite in spirit—heroes strong in horses, among plants and clans—then, O Maruts, children of Rudra, be our protectors in battles and grant us victory. Much have you done, O Maruts, as the ancestral hymns proclaim. Fierce and victorious in battle, with the Maruts one wins the prize, the swift steed. May there be a mighty hero among us, O Maruts, strong among people, a lord and an arranger, by whom we may cross over the waters to safe dwelling. May we, with our own household, come near to you. May Indra, Varuṇa, Mitra, Agni, the Waters, the Plants, and the Forests accept this offering for us. May we find shelter in the lap of the Maruts and may you always protect us with well-being. O worshipful Maruts, your honeyed name is praised; in sacrifices, the strong rejoice. You make even heaven and earth tremble, and fill the wellspring when you set forth, mighty ones. You are attentive to the one who praises, guiding the worshipper’s hymn. Today, delighted, may you sit on our sacred grass in the assembly, for our benefit. No others are like you, O Maruts, shining with golden weapons and bodies. Across heaven and earth, adorned in beauty, you bind your bright ornaments together. May your lightning be for our increase; if we have committed any offense through human weakness, do not let us fall into want, O worshipful ones. May your most favorable thought be with us. Even after your deeds, O Maruts, you roar, flawless, pure, and radiant. Protect us with your gracious thoughts; grant us prosperity with your gifts. May the praised Maruts heed our offerings with all their names. Grant us a share of immortality for our offspring, wealth, good speech, and generous gifts. May you, O praised Maruts, come with all help; approach us as generous lords, all-protecting. By your own power, make us flourish, and always protect us with well-being. Raise your voices together for the Marut troop, mighty in the divine domain. By their greatness, they shake heaven and earth, not allowing destruction to seize the summit. From birth, O Maruts, you are fierce and formidable, strong in will; all the world fears your coming, O seers of the sun. Bestow great strength on the generous, O Maruts, accepting our good praise. Having come along the path, drive away the foe; protect us with your splendid aids. From you, the sage is hundredfold, from you, the strong is thousandfold; by you, the king slays the foe. May your impulses be most powerful for that. I call upon you, merciful ones of Rudra—may the Maruts return to us again. Whatever you have withheld or revealed, by that we seek your favor, mighty ones. May this well-praised hymn be pleasing to you, generous Maruts. Drive away hatred from afar, O mighty ones; always protect us with well-being. Whomever you gods protect and lead—O Agni, Varuṇa, Mitra, Aryaman, Maruts—grant him your shelter. With your help, O gods, the worshipper overcomes his foes in battle and crosses over to prosperity and great riches. Not even for a moment does Vasiṣṭha neglect you. Today, O Maruts, join us at the pressing of the Soma; all you desirous ones, drink. No protection fails in battle for those who seek your favor; your ever-renewing goodwill turns towards you, O eager ones. Come now, O givers of strength, dispel the darkness for drinking; accept these offerings, O Maruts—do not go elsewhere. Come, sit upon our sacred grass, and as benefactors, grant us splendid wealth. Unwavering Maruts, rejoice here in the sweet Soma and the sacrifice. Even those adorned and shining in their forms, like blue-backed swans, have flown forth; let your whole host not sit apart from us, O men, delighting in the pressing of the Soma.
