In the sacred world where the gods dwell, there are waters blessed and divine, cherished by Varuṇa, the king, and Soma, and all the gods who delight in their strength. Into these waters, Agni Vaiśvānara himself has entered, making them holy and protective. May these very waters, filled with the presence of the gods, shield me from harm. Turning to Mitra and Varuṇa, I call for their protection here and now. Let no clan, no people, nor any person cause me injury. I have cast far away all that is difficult and unseen; may no serpent find me or strike at my foot with its venom. If there should be a bone, a stone, a thorn, or anything sharp near my ankle, I pray to Agni, the radiant one, to drive it away from me. Let not the serpent, with its hidden danger, harm me through my foot. If there is anything slippery, or lurking in the rivers, or any poison arising from the plants, may all the gods and Niriti remove it. Let no serpent come upon me with harm at my feet. May all the rivers—flowing or still, rising or deep, even those that are dry—become auspicious and divine for us. Let their swelling waters bring only goodness and never harm, so that all rivers may remain safe for us. By the fresh favor of the Ādityas, may we find shelter and peace beneath their protection. In the innocence and freedom given by Aditi, may the mighty ones hear our prayers and accept our offerings. Let the Ādityas, and Aditi herself—Mitra, Aryaman, Varuṇa, the most powerful—bring joy to our hearts. May they guard our world, and, drinking the Soma today, come to our aid. May all the Ādityas, all the Maruts, all the gods, the Rbhus, Indra, Agni, and the Aśvins—each one praised—forever protect us with their blessings. May we live under the shelter of the Ādityas and Aditi, O Vasus, whether in the realm of the gods or among mortals. O Mitra and Varuṇa, grant us victory; O Heaven and Earth, let us prosper as you do. Let Mitra and Varuṇa spare us from harm. May the guardians keep our children and descendants safe. May we not suffer for any fault of our ancestors, and, O Vasus, may we never do what displeases you. The swift Angirases have discovered the treasure, coming to the generous gift of Savitar. May our great and worshipful father, together with all the gods, accept our offering. With reverence, song, and sacrifice, I praise Heaven and Earth, mighty and worthy of worship. Even the ancient sages, through their hymns, placed these two great, divine children at the forefront of all. With ever-renewed hymns, let us honor the ancient Father and Mother at the seat of truth. O Heaven and Earth, come to us with your divine assembly and your great protection. For you, Heaven and Earth, possess many treasures for Sudas; grant us what is good and lasting. May your protection and well-being be with us always. O Lord of the House, recognize us with kindness; be gracious and free from harm. Accept our offerings, and bring welfare to all—both two-legged and four-legged. O Lord of the House, be our bridge, expanding our lives with cattle and horses. May we remain steadfast in your friendship, and may you accept us as a father welcomes his sons. May we reach your assembly, O Lord of the House, filled with happiness and song. Guard us in safety and in times of need; may your protection always bring us well-being. O Lord of the House, destroyer of disease, you have entered all forms; be our friend and bring us good fortune. Whatever you bestow, Arjuna Sārameya, and whatever you, Piśaṅga, grant—let your shining spears rest among the garlands; let them sleep. Drive away the thief or robber, O Sārameya, for you guard the wealth of Indra’s worshippers. Why do you bark at us? Let them sleep. Strike at the boar, and let the boar strike you; guard the wealth of Indra’s worshippers. Why do you bark at us? Let them sleep. Let the mother, the father, the dog, and the lord of the house be at peace. Let all the kin and all the people around be at peace. Whoever sits, moves, or looks upon us—of all these people, we bind their eyes, just as this house is bound. With the thousand-horned bull who rose from the ocean, we lull all people to sleep with that mighty power. We lull to sleep the women who lie on their backs, on their sides, on soft beds, and those with pleasant fragrance. Who truly knows these noble men, close companions of Rudra, who ride their own horses? No one knows their generations; their origin is hidden even from one another. With their own forms, they shine forth and resound like the wind; even the eagles have not touched them. The wise have perceived these secrets, when the spotted cow bore the mighty one. May she, strong and heroic with the Maruts, ever victorious and nourishing strength, be ours. You are most desirable, splendid, shining with beauty, united in glory, mighty and formidable. Your power is fierce, your strength firm, your energies enduring; the host of the Maruts is exceedingly mighty. Your force is bright, your wrath intense, your minds stirring, like a sage rousing the might of a troop. May the lightning protect us from harm; let not your ill will come near. I call upon your beloved name, O swift Maruts, who delight in the offering. Armed with your own weapons, adorned with fine ornaments, you shine forth, each displaying your own form. Pure are your offerings, O Maruts, among the pure; I present a pure sacrifice to the pure ones. By truth, you approach the true rite, born pure, radiant and pure. On your shoulders, O Maruts, are your ornaments; on your breasts, golden decorations are laid. Like flashes of lightning with showers, you shine forth, moving with your weapons in order. Your great deeds are awakened, O Maruts; your names are proclaimed in sacred rites. Accept this thousandfold, noble share, this household portion, O Maruts. If you, O Maruts, heed the praise of the inspired, strong in sacrifice, then swiftly grant us wealth and heroic strength. Let not another, O roaring ones, surpass us.
