O Mitra and Varuṇa, to you is offered a fresh and nourishing hymn, composed with devotion and praise. Your path is unfailing and worthy of being followed, for Mitra moves among the people as a true friend, ever speaking for their good. The mighty ones delight in the rushing wind as it moves, just as eager cows press forward to be milked. Born in the lofty seat of the sky, the great bull bellows at the celestial udder, proclaiming his presence. Indra, you who harness your swift and beloved bays, holder of the chariot, restrainer of wrathful foes, may we obtain the favor of wise Aryaman through our prayers. We worship the friendship of the divine, seeking the realm of truth with reverence. For those who praise you, Rudra, you scatter their adversaries—this homage is offered to you, the most excellent. When the rivers, led by Sarasvatī, the seventh and glorious mother, swell together—rivers easy to approach, rich in nourishing milk, and flowing with sweet waters—the world is blessed. May the Maruts, delighted, protect our thoughts and our children, O strong ones; let not the restless, wandering forces harm us, but may your yoked wealth grow ever greater for us. Create for yourselves great delight; call upon Pūṣan, the heroic one who leads the assembly. May Bhaga, protector of our thoughts, grant us success in this contest, bestowing wealth and generous bounty. To you, O Maruts, this praise is offered, and to Viṣṇu, the showerer of blessings. With your help, may we and our children be guarded in strength and well-being. Come swiftly, O Ṛbhus, on your unsoiled chariot, to receive our praise. Rejoice in the triple-pressed Soma, O fair-bearded ones, mighty in power. You bestow treasures upon the generous, O Ṛbhus; partake in our sacrifice and grant us riches with your thoughts. You speak the desired word at the division of great wealth, your hands full of gifts—right speech never restrains your generosity. Indra, famed for your own glory, and you, O Ṛbhus, like a good steed, never go to darkness. May we, your worshippers, O Vasiṣṭhas, belong to you, offering our prayers to the golden-haired one. Haryaśva, bestower of gifts, you enter with your powers; may your aid come to us, and, Indra, when will you let us enjoy your abundance? Like a wise friend, Indra, you clothe us—when will you heed our words? With your thought you bring wealth and strong sons; may the strong one bring our herds close. Even the goddess Nirṛti rules over him whom the well-yoked seasons do not mark, O Indra; the three-banded, old-toothed one approaches him whom mortals leave without a dwelling. May Savitar bring us riches for our praise; may the mountain’s bounty come to us; may the divine guardian always protect us, and may you ever guard us with well-being. The god Savitar has risen—let us go forth and seek the golden-minded one who brings prosperity. Now Bhaga, worthy of invocation among men and bestower of treasures, is to be honored. Rise, Savitar, hear our call, O golden-handed one, at the time of gift-giving; spreading earth and sky wide, send forth prosperity and bring to men the food of mortals. May the praised god Savitar be present, whom even the Vasus together praise; may he grant us our hymns and reverence, and protect our leaders with all the guardians. Goddess Aditi delights in the might of Savitar and praises him; so too do king Varuṇa, Mitra, and Aryaman together. Those among men who contend for gifts—may the givers of heaven and earth grant them; may Ahirbudhnya hear us, and may Varūtrī protect us with her single cow. May the lord of the household favor us as he brings the precious treasure of Savitar; mighty Bhaga is invoked for help, and the gracious Bhaga comes bearing gifts. May the swift ones, devoted to the gods, bring us well-being in our invocations; shining with their own light, may they drive away serpent, wolf, and demon, keeping all misfortune far from us. In every contest, may the swift ones protect us; in wealth, may the immortal sages, knowers of truth, guard us. Let them drink the honey of our offerings, rejoice, and, satisfied, proceed along the paths of the gods. Agni, upright and radiant, has reached the goodwill of the wealthy; his flame advances to the divine assembly. The stones have split the path for the chariot, and the immortal Hotar, impelled, offers the sacrifice. The well-yoked one has gone forth to the sacred grass; like a lord among people, he moves among them. For the good of the people, at the first call of dawn, Vāyu and Pūṣan, with their teams, come for our welfare. Here, with their offspring, the radiant gods rejoice; in the wide midspace, the shining ones purify themselves. Make a broad path for us, O dwellers in wide abodes; listen to the messenger who has come to you. In the sacrifices, these are the ones worthy of offering; all the gods are present at the seat. To them, Agni, offer the shining oblation—Bhaga, the Aśvins, and the bountiful one. Agni, carry our songs from heaven and earth—bring Mitra, Varuṇa, Indra, and Agni; bring Aryaman, Aditi, Viṣṇu, Sarasvatī, and may the Maruts rejoice in these offerings. He has brought the offering with the thoughts of those worthy of sacrifice, fulfilling the desires of mortals. May the Giver grant us unfailing wealth, and may we share it with the gods who are to be yoked. Now, heaven and earth, praised by the Vasiṣṭhas, may Varuṇa, Mitra, and Agni, upholders of truth, grant us a shining, supreme hymn. May you always protect us with well-being. O hearing, may understanding join us at the sacred rite; let us set forth the praise of the mighty ones. Whatever the god Savitar bestows today, may we share in his treasures. May Mitra, Varuṇa, and the two worlds grant us a share of heaven; may Indra and Aryaman give; may the goddess Aditi bestow her favor, and may Vāyu and Bhaga grant what they have prepared. May the mighty Maruts be strong for us, they who help the mortal under their protection, O fleet-footed ones. Even Agni and Sarasvatī aid him; no one surpasses him in wealth. For this one is the leader of truth, O Varuṇa; Mitra, Aryaman, and the kings uphold it. The goddess Aditi, easy to invoke and unerring, may she lead us safely past all distress. Of this generous god, Viṣṇu the mighty, may we partake with offerings at the distribution. May Rudra reveal his Rudra-like greatness, and may the two Aśvins guide us on a prosperous path. O Pūṣan, O radiant one, may the mother, the protecting goddess, and the givers of gifts grant us their blessings; may the kindly horses guard us, and the circling wind bring us rain. Now, heaven and earth, praised by the Vasiṣṭhas, may Varuṇa, Mitra, and Agni, upholders of truth, grant us a shining, supreme hymn. May you always protect us with well-being. At dawn we call Agni, at dawn we call Indra; at dawn, Mitra and Varuṇa, and the Aśvins. At dawn we invoke Bhaga, Pūṣan, and Brahmanaspati; at dawn we call Soma and Rudra as well. At dawn we invoke Bhaga, mighty and victorious, son of Aditi, the distributor. Even the one who thinks himself deprived, the swift, even the king, all say, "May Bhaga grant me a share." Thus flows the praise, invocation, and longing of the seers, as they call upon the gods at every dawn and moment, seeking their friendship, bounty, and protection for themselves, their children, and all the people.
