Those who possess deep wisdom know the very origins of earth and heaven, and the flowing waters below heed their knowledge as they journey onward. Even these mighty waters swell in response to such greatness; the strong, fierce in battle, yearn for the fertile earths. Horses are yoked for him, harnessed like those of Indra himself, the golden-armed wielder of the thunderbolt, ready for the journey. Let this noble one advance, setting out to the sacrifice with the devotion of a wife approaching her husband; strengthen him with your own power. With that same power, fortify the sacrifice in the midst of battles, and set forth a sign—a true hero—for the people to follow. From his energies, a radiant brilliance arises, and he bears the world’s burdens, steadfast as the earth upholding all creation. I call upon the gods—may they come, O Agni! Having fulfilled righteousness, I set my thoughts before them. Turn your inspired mind toward the goddess, and raise your voice to the divine assembly. Varuṇa, the mighty, thousand-eyed, has surveyed the courses of these rivers, for he is king among peoples, the adornment of the waters, and to him belongs the supreme, all-pervading dominion. May Varuṇa protect us in all our tribes and make our praise renowned, for he is truly worthy of adoration. Let hostile lightning be driven far away; may all harm be kept from our bodies. Agni has received our offerings with reverence, and our hymn is placed before him as most dear. Together with the gods, may the Offspring of the Waters become our friend and show us grace. With lotus-mouths, I praise the serpent who dwells in the depths of the rivers, seated in his hidden realms. May this Serpent of the Deep do us no harm; may his sacrifice not fail through the errors of the two who uphold order. May fame come to us among men, and may the noble ones, striving, go forth to win wealth. Their shining, vast, and mighty hosts scorch the enemy with their weapons. When our wives return to us, may Tvaṣṭṛ, with fair hands, grant us sons. May Tvaṣṭṛ accept our hymn; may the favor of the loving one, the seeker of wealth, rest upon us. May generous givers bestow riches upon us; may the two worlds, the Varuṇānī, hear our prayers. With the Varūtrīs as our shelter, may Tvaṣṭṛ of wise counsel distribute wealth. May the mountains, the waters, the givers of gifts, the plants, and the sky grant us abundance; may the earth, together with the forest trees and both realms, protect us from all sides. May the two vast worlds follow this path; may bright Varuṇa, friend of Indra, follow; may all the mighty Maruts follow, so that we may obtain wealth to support our thoughts. May Indra, Varuṇa, Mitra, Agni, the waters, the plants, and the forests accept these offerings. May we dwell in the shelter of the Maruts, and may you always protect us with well-being. May Indra and Agni be gracious, shielding us with their protection; may Indra and Varuṇa, worthy of offerings, grant us well-being. May Indra and Soma bring prosperity and happiness; may Indra and Pūṣan bestow strength and success. May Bhaga bring us good fortune, and may our praise itself be auspicious. May Puraṃdhi grant us well-being, and may riches favor us. May the blessing of the true and disciplined be with us, and may Aryaman, born of many, show us grace. May the Creator be gracious, and the Upholder support us with favor. May the wide one, with her own powers, benefit us. May the two vast worlds, Heaven and Earth, be gracious; may the mountain and the kindly gods be favorable. May Agni, radiant leader, be gracious; may Mitra, Varuṇa, and the Aśvins bring us well-being. May the good deeds of the virtuous favor us, and may the wind blow blessings upon us. May Heaven and Earth, invoked since ancient times, be gracious; may the midspace be auspicious for our vision. May the plants and forests benefit us; may the victorious lord of the realms be gracious. May Indra, the god, be gracious with the Vasus; may Varuṇa, praised among the Ādityas, be well-disposed. May gentle Rudra, with the Rudras, be gracious; may Tvaṣṭṛ, with the goddesses, hear us. May Soma be gracious in our prayers; may the pressing stones and sacrifices bring us well-being. May the friends of the radiant ones favor us; may the altar and sacred grass bless us. May the Sun, with wide vision, rise for our well-being; may the four directions be auspicious. May the steadfast mountains be gracious; may the rivers and waters bring blessing. May Aditi, with her ordinances, be gracious; may the shining Maruts favor us. May Viṣṇu and Pūṣan be gracious; may the purifier and Vāyu bring blessing. May Savitṛ, the protector, be gracious; may the radiant dawns bring us well-being. May Parjanya bless our offspring; may the lord of the field be kind. May all the gods, the universal deities, be gracious; may Sarasvatī, with the wise, favor us. May the healers and givers of gifts be gracious; may celestial, terrestrial, and aquatic beings bring us blessing. May the lords of truth be gracious; may swift horses and cattle bring well-being. May the skillful Ṛbhus favor us; may the ancestors be gracious at our offerings. May the god Aja Ekapād be gracious; may Ahi Budhnya and the ocean favor us. May the Offspring of the Waters, the mighty one, be gracious; may divine Pṛśni protect us. May the Ādityas, Rudras, and Vasus accept this new hymn. May all beings—celestial, terrestrial, those born of cows, and those worthy of sacrifice—hear us. May the worshipful, immortal gods, those who know the truth and are worthy of sacrifice, grant us wide protection today. May you always guard us with blessings. Let the hymn arise from the seat of truth. The Sun sends forth his rays and the cows; the wide Earth spreads herself with her slopes, and Agni, with broad aspect, settles in the center, radiant and steadfast.
