Let me tell you of Indra, the generous and mighty one, who bestows great wealth and riches upon his worshippers. Ever present at the rituals of the devoted singer, he is the guardian who grants well-being and protection. We call upon Indra to come to us with all his power, to be strong for the sake of wealth and heroism. As the lord of men, armed with his powerful weapon, he stands as the champion of great strength and manliness. In every home, men offer sacrifices to Indra, seeking his favor as they look to the sun. Among all peoples, Indra stands victorious, shattering foes with his might. When he shines forth on a bright day, he grants a sign—a banner in battle—rallying his followers. Like a priest summoning the gods through sacrificial fire, Indra brings good fortune. Together with the other gods who praise and grant gifts, we entreat Indra to grant our friends the highest protection, so that they may live to old age unharmed. Again, let me proclaim Indra, the generous giver of wealth, ever present at the worship of the singer, the protector who ensures our well-being. Let us sing forth exhilarating praise for Indra, the one whose chariot is drawn by tawny steeds, the joyous drinker of Soma. May our hymns be auspicious and glorious, composed for the true benefactor. Indra is the bestower of horses and cattle, the giver of gold, the possessor of a hundred powers. We, his worshippers, praise him with devotion, offering our adoration as our own. Let not the hostile or cunning overpower us in assembly, for our resolve rests in Indra alone. He is our broad shield, the foremost in battle, the slayer of Vṛtra; with him as our ally, we speak confidently. Great indeed is Indra, whose inherent power measures heaven and earth. Surrounded by the host of Maruts, resounding and shining, he stands unconquered, accompanied by the strong. The upright ones seek Indra at dawn, coming near in reverence; all peoples bow down before him. Bring forth your praise for the great and wise Indra, increaser of greatness, and let your goodwill shine forth so that many clans may flourish. Inspired ones generate splendid praise for Indra, the wide-ruling and mighty, and the steadfast never transgress his ordinances. Voices have established Indra, unconquerable in spirit, as king for united strength, with the sacred grass well arranged for his tawny steeds. May we, his worshippers, never tire of praising Indra. Whether far or near, may he come to our libation and hear our prayers. Let our hymns, composed at the pressing of Soma, gather around him like bees on honey. Desiring wealth, the singers place their trust in Indra as one would rely on a sturdy chariot. In our longing for riches, we call upon mighty-handed, skillful Indra, as a son calls upon his father. For him, the Somas are pressed with curdled milk, inviting him, wielder of the bolt, to come homeward with his two bay horses for intoxication and joy. Indra, famed for listening to praise, let our songs never be despised. He who gives abundantly should never be hindered; let his generosity flow. Indra shines among men as the unconquered hero, hastening to the deep libations of his devotees and drinking their offerings. Become a shelter for the generous, O bountiful one, as you join them in battle. May we share in the knowledge of the one you have struck down and bring home the distant prize of life. Press Soma for Indra, the drinker of Soma, the wielder of the bolt; cook and prepare the offerings, for he fills and fulfills with delight. Do not falter, O Soma-pressers; act skillfully for great wealth. The swift one prospers and thrives, for the gods never favor the sluggish. None have turned aside Sudas' chariot, nor restrained him, for Indra is his protector and the Maruts his allies. May he reach the herd rich in cows. May every mortal who strives for victory attain the prize when Indra is his protector. O hero, be our guardian of chariots and our champion among men. The portion of the striver rises, like unconquerable wealth, for whom Indra protects with his tawny horses; his enemies cannot harm him, and skill is granted to the Soma-presser. Offer in the sacrifices a hymn unbroken, well-composed, and beautiful; even those who went before are surpassed by the one whom Indra supports by his deeds. Who, Indra, mighty with wealth, can overcome you? Faithfully, the warrior seeks the prize in the farthest heaven, O bountiful one. Urge on the generous in the slaying of Vritra, those who give precious wealth. By your guidance, Indra of the tawny steeds, may we cross all hardships with the wise. Your wealth, Indra, is found in the lowest, increased in the middle, and together you rule over all the highest. No one withholds the cows from you. You are the famed giver of all wealth, to whom the victorious turn. To you, O much-invoked, the whole world of men comes seeking help. As much as you possess, O Indra, so may I possess. May I, your praiser, always desire your favor—do not grant your gifts to the wicked. Day by day, I seek to learn where wealth is found, for apart from you, O bountiful one, there is no other source of riches, not even a father. The swift one seeks the prize with the help of Purandhi; I bow to Indra, much-invoked, with my song, as one shapes a well-made wheel. No man gains wealth by ill-praise, nor does fortune favor the slothful. May the bountiful one, strong in power, grant us a sure gift, as is fitting in the highest heaven. We approach you, O champion, as unmilked cows approach their master. O Indra, lord of this moving and steadfast world, seer of the sunlit realm, we come to you in reverence and hope.
