Indra, mighty lord, your mind is drawn to the sweet offering of Soma, twice-filtered, pressed, and poured in abundance. The milk flows forth, and our prayers rise to you, calling you to accept this plentiful libation. Come to us, powerful one, journeying from heaven and earth; let your bay steeds bring you swiftly to this sacred seat, eager for the sweetness of Soma and the delight of our songs. Haryaśva, come with all your aids, accepting our hymn. Grant us your wide protection with enduring strength, O fair-bearded Indra, and place your manly vigor among us. Our praise is set forth for you, the mighty and fierce one, as a charioteer urges his team onward. Indra, this hymn seeks you among the treasures—grant us your attentive presence, just as heaven listens to the sky. Fulfill us, Indra, with all that is excellent; may your great favor be upon us. Pour forth nourishment and heroic sons for the generous, and guard us always with your blessings. To you, mighty Indra, armies gather when they meet in battle, for the lightning falls from your heroic arms. May your mind never stray from us, but remain steadfast in every direction. Strike down the strongholds, O Indra, and defeat the foes who oppose us. Turn away the curse of the hostile and bring us the gathered wealth. A hundred praises and a thousand blessings be for Sudās, O fair-bearded one. Grant us your gifts, slay the weapons of mortal enemies, and establish glory and treasure for us. For strength, Indra, we are yours; for protection, we are yours in the contest. Each day, mighty one, with your power, make a home for us and do not let us be harmed. With Kutsā and Haryaśva, these men have come to you for strength, aided by the gods. Accomplish victory together, O hero, so that we may win the prize with your help. Fulfill us, Indra, with what is excellent; may we obtain your great favor. Pour forth nourishment and heroic sons for the generous; guard us always with your blessings. Soma, though pressed, sometimes brings no delight to Indra, nor do the Brahmans' chants always please the generous one. Therefore, I compose a fresh hymn, eager for sacrifice, so that the youthful hero may hear us as we wish. Yet, with every hymn and every rite, Soma delights Indra, and he is pleased by the offerings. When pressed hard, like sons calling on their father, those of equal skill call for his help. Indra has accomplished these deeds and will perform others as the wise say, especially at the pressings. Like a husband with his wives, Indra alone has cleansed all the strongholds for me. Thus they say, and so we listen: you, Indra, alone distribute and surpass all in gifts. Your many aids contend with one another—may you join together all that is good and dear for us. Thus Vasiṣṭha, seeking Indra’s aid, praises the bull among men at the pressing. Come to us with thousands, bring us the prizes, and guard us always with your blessings. Men call upon Indra with their invocations, yoking their thoughts to the contest. O hero, giver of strength, grant us a share in the cattle-rich prize. That strength of yours, Indra, belongs to the generous—grant it to your friends among men. You are wise, generous one, in breaking strongholds—may you increase for us the surrounding wealth. Indra, king of peoples, rules over the world and all its varied forms. From there, he gives treasures to the worshipper, and even when praised from afar, he comes near, eager to grant gifts. When invoked, Indra, the generous, never withholds strength or bounty. His gifts are never lacking; his right hand overflows with blessings for men and friends. Now, Indra, grant us wide wealth; may our minds turn to you for gifts. With cattle, horses, and chariots abounding, may you always protect us with well-being. O Indra, knower of prayer, come to us. Let your steeds be harnessed and draw near, for all mortals call upon you. Hear us and come with all your might. Your greatness is revealed, Indra, when you accept our prayers. Mighty one, you guard the prayers of men, and when you take the thunderbolt in your strong hand, you are born fierce, terrible, and unconquered. By your guidance, Indra, those who call upon you are protected, for you uphold men and the two worlds. You are born for great power and strength, never to be overcome or defeated. With these, Indra, delight in us today, for hostile peoples are cleansed away. When falsehood is spoken, Varuna, the wise, casts it down—may he not strike us. Let me proclaim this Indra, the generous one, who gives us great wealth and riches. He is present at the worship of the singer—may you always protect us with well-being. This Soma, Indra, is pressed for you; come here, mighty one, to your dwelling. Drink of this well-prepared, delightful Soma, and, generous one, grant us your gifts. Delighting in the singer’s work, come with your steeds, drawn near; rejoice in this very pressing and listen to our prayers. What is your pleasure in our hymns, O generous one? When shall we truly serve you? All our thoughts are woven for you—may you, Indra, hear our call. You have heard the prayers of other men and of the ancient seers; therefore, O generous Indra, I call upon you—you are to us as a wise father. Let me proclaim this Indra, the generous one, who gives us great wealth and riches. He is present at the worship of the singer—may you always protect us with well-being. Come to us, god, with your might; be strong, Indra, for this wealth. For great heroism, lord of men, with your good weapon, for great power and manliness, O champion, come. Men call upon you for offerings, O champion, in their homes, seeking the favor of the sun. You are victorious among all peoples, you shatter the foes, O mighty one. When you shine forth on a bright day, Indra, you grant a sign, a banner in battles. As fire sits down, the mighty one, like a priest, calls the gods here for good fortune. We, Indra, and those gods who praise you, O champion and giver of gifts, ask you: grant to our friends the highest protection, so that they may reach old age unharmed. Let me proclaim this Indra, the generous one, who gives us great wealth and riches. He is present at the worship of the singer—may you always protect us with well-being. Sing forth the exhilarating praise for Indra, the one with tawny steeds, O friends, for the drinker of Soma. Let the hymn be auspicious for the generous one, and glorious as men do, for we have composed it for the true benefactor. You, Indra, are the bestower of horses, the giver of cattle, O hundred-powered; you are the giver of gold, O wealthy one. We, your worshippers, praise you with devotion. Recognize this, O wealthy one, as ours.
