May those who are coming into being watch over me, the swelling rivers shelter me, the steadfast mountains stand as my guardians, and the ancestral fathers—those honored by the gods—protect me always. Let us be ever of good mind, beholding the rising sun each day; and may the Lord of treasures, the noblest of helpers, draw near to us, bringing the favor of the gods. Let Indra come swiftly to our aid, Sarasvati approach, swelling with her rivers, Parjanya arrive, gladdening us with flourishing plants, and Agni—so easily invoked and ever-praised—stand by us like a caring father. All you gods, gather here and listen to this my invocation; be seated upon this sacred grass. Whichever among you gods is honored with a rich offering of ghee, let all of you approach him together. May the divine sons, those immortal beings, hear our songs and be gracious to us. All you gods, made strong by truth, who answer invocations at the right times—may you delight in these offerings rightly given. Let Indra, the host of Maruts, Tvashtar, Mitra, and Aryaman accept what we bring. Agni, as Hotar, conduct this sacrifice for us with skill, knowing the divine lineage. O gods in the midspace, those nearest in heaven, those with tongues of fire or worthy of sacrifice—listen to this my invocation, be seated on this sacred grass, and rejoice. Let all the worshipful gods attend to my hymn—heaven and earth, the offspring of the waters. May my words not be scattered, but find fulfillment in your favor, O gods. Whoever of great might, whether born of earth or sky, who dwell in the abode of the waters—may those gods grant us life and light, and open wide the paths before us. Agni and Parjanya, support my prayer in this invocation; be easily invoked and well-praised. Let one of you grant us nourishment, the other offspring, and together bestow abundant, life-giving riches. Upon the spread sacred grass, with Agni kindled, I call with hymn and reverence; in this assembly today, O worshipful gods, rejoice in the offering. O Lord of the Path, Pūṣan, like a chariot harnessed for victory, we bind you to our thought. Lead to us, O noble and generous one, the heroic, skillful, and gracious master of the house. O compassionate Pūṣan, even if he is not generous, urge him to give; turn the miser’s heart toward liberality. Clear the paths for our strength, scatter and strike down our foes, let our strong thoughts prevail. Surround the misers with confusion, O wise one, with your power, and make them yield to us. Strike the miser, O Pūṣan, seek out what is dear in his heart, and make him yield. Go forth and shake the hearts of the misers, O wise one, so they give to us. O radiant Pūṣan, with your goad of discipline, pierce the heart of the miser, stir and shake him. Your cattle-driving staff brings wealth—of that, we seek your favor. Grant us wisdom in seeking cattle, strength in horses, wealth, and prosperity among men. Lead us, Pūṣan, to one who knows, who instructs rightly, who declares, “This is it.” May we go together with Pūṣan to the house of the one who commands, who says, “This indeed is it.” The wheel of Pūṣan never breaks, nor does his axle fall away; his goad is never worn out. He who offers to Pūṣan with oblation finds favor and is the first to discover wealth. May Pūṣan follow and protect our cattle, guard our paths, and grant us strength. O Pūṣan, come after our cattle, for the worshipper who presses Soma and for us who praise you. Let no one go astray, be harmed, or left behind on our journey; come to us with safety, O Pūṣan. We seek you, who hears and knows the way, who is lord of wealth. In your rule, may we never go astray; we are your praisers here. Let Pūṣan place his right hand over us, even from afar; may what was lost return to us again. Come, O sons of Vimuco, O Napāt Āghṛṇi, let us unite with you; be the charioteer of truth for us. We seek the most skilled charioteer, the matted-haired lord of great wealth, as a friend for riches. O Āghṛṇi, stream of wealth, generous one, heap of riches—bring us wealth, friend of the wise. Let us praise Pūṣan, the provider of fresh horses, the vigorous one; the sun is called the lover. I spoke to the mother seeking, let the lover, the sun, hear us; Indra’s brother is my friend. The drivers place Pūṣan in the chariot, those who bear the glory of the people; let them carry the god. So, with reverence and hope, the worshipper calls upon the gods—seeking their protection, guidance, and generous blessings—invoking Pūṣan, Agni, Indra, and all the divine hosts, that life may flourish, the paths be clear, and prosperity come to all who praise and honor them.
