Indra, the mighty one, stands as the great supporter of heaven and earth. With his divine skill, he has yoked the seven-rayed chariot, set the ripe Soma among the cows, and established the tenfold fountain, ensuring the abundance of life and the flow of sacred gifts. It was Indra who, with wise guidance from afar, led Turvasha and Yadu to safety, proving himself a youthful friend and protector. Indra’s generosity is boundless; even those lacking skill find sustenance through him, and he conquers even the swiftest horse, granting the wealth his devotees desire. His guidance is vast, his blessings countless, and the aids he offers never diminish. Therefore, friends, raise your voices in song to Indra, the bearer of prayers, for he is our greatest support. O slayer of Vṛtra, you alone help both the solitary and the many. May we become worthy of your aid, as you lead away the hostile and bring down those who speak against the hymn. Among men, you are celebrated as mighty among heroes. With heartfelt words, I call upon Indra—the friend, the singer, the bearer of prayer—just as one calls a cow to milk. All treasures rest in Indra’s hands, undivided, for he is the hero who triumphs in battle. Even the strongest fortresses of peoples, O lord of might and stone-wielder, you shatter, breaking down the unyielding tricks of our foes. True one, drinker of Soma, lord of prizes, we call to you, desiring fame. Whether in the past or now, Indra hears the calls of those who are worthy of offering, aiding them in their quest for wealth. With prayers and swift horses, we ask you, Indra, to bring us glory and help us win the wealth we seek. In contests for riches, O heroic, song-loving Indra, you have become great, the one to invoke in every struggle. Your aid, O foe-slayer, is ever ready; with it, set our chariot in motion. With your skilled charioteering, attack alongside us, O victorious one, and win the desired wealth. Praise him alone, the most discerning among peoples, the lord born with mighty resolve. Indra has been a loyal friend to those who praise him, always bringing help; may he show us mercy. Take up the thunderbolt, O wielder of the thunderbolt, to slay the demon and be most powerful against our foes. Ancient companion of riches, inspirer of praise, best bearer of prayer—we call to you. For Indra alone, song-loving and unaging, rules over all earthly treasures. With your troops, fill us with desire, prizes, horses, and cattle, O bold lord of cattle. Sing praise to Indra at the pressing of Soma, for the much-invoked, the mighty, so that well-being may come to the cow and to the one who brings joy. The generous Indra never withholds wealth abundant in cattle when songs reach him. Perhaps he will go forth to the cattle-rich enclosure of the foe; with his powers, may he drive them away from us. These hymns, O hundred-powered one, reach out to you as mothers to their calf. Your friendship, O hero, is sought for the sake of cattle; be a horse for the horse-seeker. Delight in the Soma, Indra, for wealth and great strength, and do not abandon your praiser to poverty. These hymns, at every pressing, long for you, O lover of song, as cows for their calf, as milch cows for their young. Most bountiful among many, let Indra make his praisers victorious with prizes. May our praise, O Indra, be the most powerful and closest to you; drive great wealth to us. Bṛbu stood on the highest head among the Paṇis, wide as the Gāṅgya plain. His generous gift, swift as the wind and abundant in thousands, is ever ready for giving. Thus, all noble singers continually praise Bṛbu, the thousand-giver, the lord who bestows thousands. Indra alone do we invoke for strength and prizes, O singers, lord of the good, in battles and contests. Mighty one, thunderbolt in hand, praised by us, stone-splitter, scatter for us cows, horses, and chariots as you conquer the prize for the victor. Indra is the universal helper, wise and thousand-powered, lord of the good, invoked for strength in battle. Like a bull, you drive away adversaries with your fury, eager and showering, O singer; be our helper in wealth, in our persons, in the waters, in the sun. Indra, bring us the highest, most powerful fame, O mighty one with the thunderbolt, by which you filled both shining worlds. Strong helper of tribes, king among the gods, we invoke your aid; make all adversaries easy to overcome, O bountiful one, and render the unfriendly powerless. Thus, the story of Indra’s greatness and generosity unfolds—a tale of blessings, victories, and unwavering support for those who sing his praise.
