Behold the wondrous course of the divine, sharp as the edge of an axe and turned ever against the foe; his might is clear to all. When, with a trusted companion, he places the treasure within the dwelling, it is for the one who brings the sacred offering. Swiftly he moves, his tongue fourfold, adorned with beauty, especially when Varuṇa restrains adversaries. His true manliness remains beyond our knowing, for it is from him that Bhaga and Savitṛ bestow their prize. On this day, I seek the favor of the god Savitṛ and Bhaga, the distributor of treasures and wealth. May these two generous ones turn their gaze toward us; day after day, O Aśvins, may you approach us as friends. Knowing the path of the mighty one, we offer our hymns to Savitṛ. With reverence and understanding, we address him, the chief who divides treasures and wealth among men. By their bounty, Pūṣan, Bhaga, Aditi, Vasta, and Uṣas grant us the gifts we desire. Indra, Viṣṇu, Varuṇa, Mitra, and Agni—these wondrous deities bring forth days of auspiciousness. May Savitṛ, free from harm, grant us his protection, and may the rivers flow in their ordained courses. As I, the priest, speak these words in the sacred rite, may we become lords of wealth and winners of splendid prizes. To those who, like generous givers, offer praise to the Vasus, and to distant Mitra and Varuṇa, may you grant us a better path. With the favor of Heaven and Earth, may we rejoice. Let every mortal seek the friendship of the divine Guide; let all strive for wealth, choose glory, and desire prosperity. Those whom you, divine Guide, direct here—may we share their wealth and join with those truly united. May he grant us favor among men, guests, and wives; may he drive far away all enmity and those who walk hostile paths. Where the sacred fire is kindled, cattle gather in the troughs, and among men, the heroic household thrives, like a wise one who brings gain. This is your divine Guide, lord of the chariot, bringer of blessings and wealth; for prosperity and well-being, praised for his gifts, we honor the god. Agni, come with all these deities for the drinking of the pressed Soma, and receive the offering with the gods. You, who possess true insight and uphold the law, come to the sacrifice and drink with Agni, using your tongue. Come, O inspired one, with the inspired, with those who drive forth at dawn; with the gods, partake in the drinking of Soma. This Soma, pressed in the bowl, is poured out without measure and is dear to Indra and Vāyu. Vāyu, come gladly to drink and accept the offering; drink of the pressed Soma, come for the prize. Indra and Vāyu, you are worthy of these Somas; may you both, pure and unstained, gladly come for the prize. The Somas, pressed for Indra and Vāyu with curd, flow like rivers to the lowland, seeking the prize. Together with all the gods, with the Aśvins and Uṣas, come, Agni, to the offering pressed by the sons of Atri, for the contest. With Mitra and Varuṇa, with Soma and Viṣṇu, come, Agni, to the offering pressed by the sons of Atri, for the contest. With the Ādityas, Vasus, Indra, and Vāyu, come, Agni, to the offering pressed by the sons of Atri, for the contest. May Bhaga and the Aśvins grant us well-being; may the goddess Aditi, free from harm, bestow well-being; may Pūṣan, the mighty, grant us well-being; and may Heaven and Earth, with good counsel, bring us well-being. For well-being, let us call upon Vāyu, upon Soma, lord of the world, upon Bṛhaspati, lord of all hosts, and may the Ādityas bring us well-being. May all the gods today grant us well-being; may Agni Vaiśvānara, the beneficent, grant us well-being; may the gods and the ancestors grant us well-being; may Rudra protect us from harm. May Mitra and Varuṇa, the bountiful goddess of the path, Indra and Agni, and Aditi herself, grant us well-being. May we walk the path of well-being, like the sun and moon; may we return unharmed, knowing and giving again, and may we come together. O Śyāvāśva, praise boldly with hymns, together with the Maruts, who delight in the sincere offering and are worthy of sacrifice. For they are steadfast friends, bold in their strength, who, by their own power, always protect us from harm. Swift as flowing streams, surpassing the darkness of night, is the greatness of the Maruts, which I seek in heaven and on earth. Let us offer praise and sacrifice to the Maruts with boldness, for they protect mortals from harm through the ages. These noble, generous ones, with unassailable strength, are worthy of sacrifice—offer to the Maruts in heaven. Adorned with golden ornaments, in the heat of battle, the mighty ones unleash their spears; following them, lightning flashes, the Maruts roar like women in labor, and the sun shines by its own power in the sky. They have grown strong on earth, in the wide midspace, in the gatherings of rivers, and in the abode of the great sky. The troop of the Maruts, praised for their true strength and vigor, their shining chariots are yoked by their own power. Indeed, on the Paruṣṇī river, the wool-clad ones dwell, pure, and the wheels of their chariots, with force, break through the mountain. The main roads, byroads, inner paths, and side paths—all these are spread wide for the sacrifice. Then the men are praised, then the hosts are lauded; then, like the wings of birds, their wondrous forms are revealed. Praising with hymns, the Kubhanyas pour forth at the source like dancers; some are mothers, some radiant companions. Those who are lofty, with sharp weapons, wise, and creative—let us honor that mighty host of the Maruts, O seer, with delightful praise.
