As dawn approached, she who heralds the day ascended the sky, her radiance proclaiming the arrival of morning. The great mother of all awakened her daughter, the luminous and youthful Dawn, who, full of thought, brought forth the light and called out to the ancient fathers in their celestial abode. Swiftly, the divine powers moved forth, striving with purpose, having reached the very navel of immortality. Their endless paths stretched from every direction, traversing the expanse of heaven and earth together in harmony. Within this cosmic order, the mighty Bull—oceanic, ruddy, splendid-winged—entered the womb of the ancient father. Placed at the center of the heavens, the spotted stone stretched out to the very ends of the realms, marking the boundaries of the worlds. Four guardians bore this mystery for safety, while ten nurtured the embryo of movement within. The highest cows of the divine, threefold in aspect, wandered around the farthest reaches of heaven all at once, sustaining the cosmic order. This form, this dwelling, is the stage upon which people move, especially when the rivers and waters stand still in awe. Two of these divine forces bear the mother, while others are born here—twin-born with their kin, emerging into the world. The waters, like loving mothers, spread out their thoughts for him, weaving garments for their son, the radiant one. Joyfully, the mighty ones approached the meeting place, and the celestial brides journeyed along the path of heaven. May all this be auspicious for us, O Mitra and Varuṇa, O Agni. May we attain depth and a firm foundation, offering homage to the great heaven and its sacred seat. With reverence, we direct our thoughts to the beloved abode, the mighty power, the self-glorious, the great. From the far region of the sky, the wondrous one stretches out the waters, choosing them and setting them in motion. The heroic ones have extended the path, the common way, by their might throughout the realm. The waters have flowed together, while others have withdrawn; the divine people cross over, following the path of the ancients. With stones, and with the cycles of day and night, the wondrous one strikes with the strongest bolt. Whether a hundred forces move in his house, they roll together, turning day and night in their eternal dance. His course, sharp as the edge of an axe, is turned against the foe, and the might of his form is manifest. If, with a companion, he places the treasure in the dwelling, it is for the one who brings the offering. With his four-faced tongue, he moves swiftly, adorned in beauty, especially when Varuṇa restrains the foe. His full manliness is beyond our knowing, for from him, Bhaga and Savitṛ bestow the prize. Today, I seek the god Savitṛ for you, and Bhaga, distributor of treasures and wealth. May you two, who give abundantly, turn towards us; day by day, O Aśvins, come as our friends. Knowing the path of the mighty one, we praise god Savitṛ with hymns. Approaching with reverence and understanding, we speak to him, the chief who divides treasures and wealth. With their bounty, Pūṣan, Bhaga, Aditi, Vasta, and Uṣas grant desirable gifts. Indra, Viṣṇu, Varuṇa, Mitra, and Agni—these wondrous ones bring forth auspicious days for all. May Savitṛ, free from harm, grant us protection; may the rivers, flowing, follow their course. When I, as priest of the rite, speak to you, may we become lords of wealth and prize-winning treasures. To those who, like generous givers, offer praise to the Vasus, to distant Mitra and Varuṇa with hymns—may you grant us a better path. With the favor of Heaven and Earth, may we rejoice. Let every mortal seek the friendship of the divine Guide; let all strive for wealth, choose glory, and desire prosperity. Those, O divine Guide, whom you direct here—may we share in their wealth, uniting with those truly united. May he grant us favor among men, guests, and wives; may he drive far away all enmity and those who walk hostile paths. Where the fire is kindled, the cattle rush about in their troughs; among men, the heroic household prospers, like a wise one who brings gain. This is your divine Guide, lord of the chariot, bringer of blessings and wealth. For prosperity and well-being, praised for his gifts, we honor the god, we honor the god. Agni, come with all these, for the drinking of the pressed Soma; come with the gods to receive the offering. You who possess true insight, come, upholding the law, to the sacrifice; drink with Agni, with your tongue. Come, O inspired one, with the inspired, with those who drive forth at dawn; with the gods, for the drinking of Soma. This Soma, pressed in the bowl, is poured out without measure; it is dear to Indra and Vāyu. Vāyu, come for the drinking, gladly accepting the offering; drink of the pressed Soma, come for the prize. Indra and Vāyu, you are worthy of drinking these pressed Somas; may you both, free from stain, gladly come for the prize. The Somas, pressed for Indra and Vāyu, with curd, flow like rivers to the lowland, seeking the prize. Together with all the gods, with the Aśvins and Uṣas, come, Agni, to the offering pressed by the sons of Atri, for the contest. Together with Mitra and Varuṇa, with Soma and Viṣṇu, come, Agni, to the offering pressed by the sons of Atri, for the contest. Together with the Ādityas, Vasus, Indra, and Vāyu, come, Agni, to the offering pressed by the sons of Atri, for the contest. May Bhaga and the Aśvins grant us well-being; may the goddess Aditi, free from harm, grant us well-being; may Pūṣan, the mighty, bestow well-being upon us; may Heaven and Earth, with good counsel, grant us well-being. For well-being, let us call upon Vāyu; for well-being, Soma, lord of the world; for well-being, Bṛhaspati, lord of all hosts; may the Ādityas bring us well-being. May all the gods today grant us well-being; may Agni Vaiśvānara, beneficent, grant us well-being; may the gods and ancestors grant us well-being; may Rudra protect us from harm for our well-being. May Mitra and Varuṇa grant us well-being; may the bountiful goddess of the path grant us well-being; may Indra and Agni grant us well-being; O Aditi, grant us well-being. May we walk the path of well-being, like the sun and moon; may we return, unharmed, knowing and giving again, may we come together. O Śyāvāśva, praise with boldness, with hymns, together with the Maruts, who delight in the pure offering and are worthy of sacrifice. For they are friends of steadfast strength, bold ones; with their own power, they always protect us from harm. They are swift, like flowing streams, surpassing the nights; I seek the greatness of the Maruts in heaven and on earth. Thus, in reverence and gratitude, the seers called upon the gods, praising their cosmic deeds, seeking their blessings, and invoking well-being for all—so the order of the universe is upheld, and the blessings of heaven and earth flow for those who honor the divine.
