May countless blessings and protections surround us, a hundred and a thousand aids sheltering our every step. May all our desires be fulfilled, and every boon we seek become ours. Choose us here, O gods, for friendship and well-being, and bestow upon us great wealth that shines like the sky itself. Indra, grant us wealth that encompasses all, and protect us with your manifold strengths. As you once bestowed herds and filled the cattle-stalls with your fresh powers, so grant us those abundant herds. May our chariot, strong and unfailing, gleaming and rich with cows and horses, move ever forward, O Indra. Raise our fame to the highest among the gods, O radiant Sun, making it as vast and plentiful as the sky above. Indra, slayer of Vṛtra, come to us now. Approach our share with your mighty and wondrous aids. You are a stirrer of men, always impelling, marvelous among marvels, creating wonders for our help. Even when we are weak or diminished, you, together with your companions, strike down the arrogant with your power. We are with you, Indra, and we praise you. Come to us, for us alone, with your flawless and invincible aids, O stone-armed one. May we be your friends, O generous Indra, possessing cattle, ready for contests, eager for victory. For you alone, Indra, are the lord of prizes rich in cattle; grant us great sustenance. No one turns you away when, praised, you wish to give wealth, O Indra, lover of song. To you, the Gotamas have raised their hymns, seeking victory and reward. Let us proclaim your heroic deeds, Indra, which you performed with joy in the Soma, breaking the strongholds of the Dasyus. Your mighty acts, O wise one, are celebrated at the pressings, and the Gotamas, with their songs, have increased your greatness. Place glory rich in heroes among them. You, Indra, are ever the common helper of all; you are the one we invoke. Be present for us, O treasure-giver; rejoice in the Soma, O Indra, drinker of the sacred drink. May our hymn draw you into our thoughts; turn your chariot hither. Delight in our offerings and our songs, as a bridegroom delights in maidens. We call upon you, Indra, for a thousand well-yoked chariots and a hundred jars of Soma. May thousands and hundreds of cows be driven to you; may your favor descend upon us. We have taken up ten of your golden vessels, for you are a generous giver, O slayer of Vṛtra. Give us much, O bountiful one, do not give little—bring us abundance, for you, Indra, truly give in plenty. You are renowned as a generous giver in many places, O heroic slayer of Vṛtra; grant us a share in your bounty. To you, tawny and wise, I proclaim my praise, O descendant of the seeker of cows; do not abandon the cows for the two of us. Like a young girl in new attire, like a child in fresh garments, your tawny ones shine among the teams. May all be well for the cattle-station and for its followers; the ever-flowing tawny ones are in the teams. Now I send forth my words to the Ṛbhus as a messenger, spreading out the white cow for their praise. Swift as the wind, with quick chariots, they became waters encircling the sky. When these skillful ones made a resting place for their parents, adorning them and giving them teeth, they brought strength to the mind and entered into friendship with the gods. The Ṛbhus, who made their aged parents young again, though they lay like sacrificial stakes, may these strong companions of Indra, flowing with honeyed streams, protect our sacrifice. For a year, the Ṛbhus guarded the cow; for a year, they shaped the horse; for a year, they bore the brightness of this one. Through these labors, they swiftly attained immortality. The eldest among them said, "Let us make two cups," the youngest insisted, "Let us make four," and Tvaṣṭṛ, the divine artisan, approved their words. True to their nature, the Ṛbhus spoke and acted rightly; the four cups shone brightly, and Tvaṣṭṛ saw them as if they were one. As guests, the Ṛbhus spent twelve days in a hidden place. There, they made fields fertile, guided rivers, stood firm on deserts, and directed the plants and flowing waters. They crafted the best chariot among men, and fashioned the all-nourishing, all-shaped cow. May these self-sustaining, skillful Ṛbhus, with their good hands, shape wealth for us. The gods delighted in their works, shining with will and mind. The vigor of the gods became excellent, belonging to Indra, to Ṛbhukṣa, and to Vibhvan, son of Varuṇa. The Ṛbhus yoked two bay steeds, wise and eager, and made well-yoked horses for Indra. May these Ṛbhus, bringers of prosperity and wealth, grant us safety as a true friend would.
