In the sacred expanse of the heavens, we call upon the mighty gods, Indra and Vāyu, who touch the sky with their celestial presence. With the swift grace of thought, we invoke these lords of insight, the thousand-eyed deities, seeking their aid as we offer the divine Soma. Alongside them, we summon Mitra and Varuṇa, the embodiments of purity and skill, to partake in this sacred drink. By the eternal truth that flourishes in the light, we reach out to these lords, hoping for their gracious favor to bless our endeavors. As we gather in reverence, we call upon Indra, accompanied by the Maruts, to partake in the Soma, inviting him to rejoice with his divine host. The Maruts, fierce and generous, who once vanquished the serpent Vṛtra alongside Indra, are summoned to hear our invocation. We beseech them, the divine warriors born of Pṛśni, to shield us from hostile words and ill will. With thunderous might, the Marut host approaches, bold and victorious, ready to grant us all that is auspicious. They, born from the flash of lightning and the roar of the storm, are our protectors, and we pray for their mercy. O Pūṣan, radiant herdsman of the skies, we ask you to guide the lost back to the splendid seat of the heavens, as a shepherd brings back a strayed animal. In your radiant embrace, you found the hidden king and brought him forth to the light. As we offer our prayers, we invoke the waters, which flow along their sacred paths, sisters of life, pouring forth honeyed milk to nourish our rites. With these waters, by which the Sun rises and which accompany his journey across the sky, we seek to further our sacrifice. We call upon the divine waters, the source where our cattle drink, and we offer our homage to the rivers, for within them lies ambrosia, healing, and blessings. O gods, grant us victory through the sacred waters, where Soma spoke to me, revealing all remedies. O waters, we implore you to grant us healing and protection for our bodies, allowing us to bask in the Sun's light for years to come. Carry away from us any evil, whether it be our own wrongdoings, curses, or untruths. Today, we come to you, mingling our essence with yours. O Agni, rich in milk, we call upon you—let not your brilliance be withheld from us. Bestow upon us radiance, offspring, and longevity, and may the gods, especially Indra, acknowledge our humble requests along with the wise sages. In our contemplation of the divine, we ponder the lovely names of the immortal ones. Who among them will restore us to Aditi, so that we may reunite with our father and mother? We turn to Agni, the foremost of the immortals, seeking his guidance to bring us back to the nurturing embrace of Aditi. O Savitar, lord of treasures, we approach you, yearning for your favor and a share of your bounty. We recognize the fortunate ones who have once placed impartiality in their hands, rising by the help of Bhaga, ascending to the heights of wealth. Yet we acknowledge that neither your sovereignty, might, nor speed, O Namī, can be matched by the swiftest of beings. The waters flow unblinking, and the winds measure the abyss with unyielding resolve. King Varuṇa, pure in wisdom, has established a lofty pillar in the forest, its roots deep below and its top reaching high above, revealing the hidden signs within us. He has created a wide path for the sun, leaving footprints without feet for guidance, marking our hearts with his profound speech. O king, your healers are many, and we seek your vast favor to drive away misfortune and release us from our transgressions. As we gaze upon the stars fixed in the night sky, we wonder where they disappear by day. The laws of Varuṇa remain unbroken, guiding the moon on its nightly journey. With prayer and offerings, we honor you, O Varuṇa, asking that you remain mindful of us without anger. Do not take away our lives; for we yearn for the freedom that comes from your grace. We recall the tale of Śunahśepa, bound and seized, and we beseech King Varuṇa to release him from his bonds. With reverence and offerings, we seek your forgiveness for the wrongs we have committed. Loosen the ties that bind us, O Varuṇa, and grant us a place in Aditi’s embrace, free from guilt. Whatever your law may be, we examine it daily, O Varuṇa. We pray that you do not harm us for our offenses or transgressions, nor for your anger at those who feel remorse. In our devotion, we seek the light of your wisdom and the healing that comes from your divine presence.
