May mighty Heaven and Earth, vast and ever-generous, measure out this sacrifice for us and uphold us with their abundant gifts. In their presence, the wise rejoice, delighting in the rich, clarified butter, their thoughts fixed upon the steadfast seat of the Gandharva. O Earth, be gentle and steadfast beneath us; grant us a broad and secure resting place, shielding us with your ample protection. From the place where Viṣṇu has stretched forth his stride, may the gods safeguard us, marking the seven stations of the earth. Here, Viṣṇu has set his threefold steps, his footprints firmly planted in the dust. As the unassailable guardian, Viṣṇu strode forth in three great strides, and from there, he upholds the cosmic order. Behold the wondrous deeds of Viṣṇu! From his actions, sacred laws flow forth, and he stands as Indra’s worthy companion. The wise ever contemplate that highest step of Viṣṇu, radiant like an eye extended in the sky. Inspired seers, awakened and discerning, kindle their devotion at that supreme step of Viṣṇu. Now, let us invite Vāyu to come to the strong, pressed Somas, brimming with sweetness, and to partake of those that are set before him. Indra and Vāyu, who reach the very heavens, are called to drink this Soma. Swifter than thought, Indra and Vāyu, you are invoked by the wise for your thousand-eyed insight and aid. We also call upon Mitra and Varuṇa, born with pure skill, to join in the Soma-drinking. By truth and ever-growing light, Mitra and Varuṇa, lords of truth, are invoked for their favor. May Varuṇa, the protector, and Mitra, with all their helpers, grant us their gracious blessings. We summon Indra, accompanied by the Maruts, to share in the Soma and rejoice with his host. The Maruts, with Indra as their chief, are divine hosts who bestow wealth—may all of them hear our invocation. You generous ones, who, yoked with might, aided Indra in slaying Vṛtra—may hostile words never prevail over us. We call upon all the gods, the fierce Maruts, children of Pṛśni, to drink the Soma. Like victorious thunderers, the Marut host draws near with boldness; grant us all that is auspicious, O mighty ones. Born from the flash of lightning and the thunder’s roar, may the Maruts protect us and show us mercy. O radiant Pūṣan, bring back the one who has strayed, as a herdsman returns a lost animal, to the splendid seat of the sky. Pūṣan, the luminous, found the hidden king, concealed in secret, and restored him to the radiant seat. With the sacred drops, he will guide the six-yoked chariots for me; with cows, they thresh out the barley. The waters, sisters in their paths, flow for the rite, pouring forth honeyed milk. With these waters, by which the Sun rises or travels, may our sacrifice be furthered. We call upon the divine waters, where our cattle drink, and offer our libations to the rivers. Within the waters is ambrosia, healing, and blessing; may the gods grant us victory. In the waters, Soma spoke: all remedies dwell within them; Agni, bringer of all good, and the waters, givers of every cure, are present. O waters, bestow healing and protection for my body, and let me behold the Sun for many days. O waters, carry away from me whatever evil may cling—be it my wrongdoing, a curse spoken, or untruth uttered. Today, O waters, I have come to you; we have mingled with your essence. O Agni, rich in milk, come here; let him not deprive me of brilliance. O Agni, grant me radiance, offspring, and a long life; may the gods, may Indra, and the sages know this for me. Of whom, of which immortal ones, do we ponder the lovely name? Who will restore us to Aditi, that we may see our father and mother again? Of Agni, foremost among immortals, we contemplate the beautiful name; may he restore us to Aditi, so we may once more behold our parents. We approach you, O god Savitar, lord of treasures, always seeking a share in your bounty. Whoever is truly fortunate, rejoicing, long ago placed impartiality in his hands. We, devoted to you, O Bhaga, rise by your help, grasping the summit of wealth. Neither your sovereignty, nor your might, nor your wrath, nor your speed, O Namī, have the swiftest attained. The waters move unblinking, and even those who measure the abyss of the wind cannot reach them. King Varuṇa, pure in wisdom, has set a lofty pillar in the forest; its roots are below, its top above. Within us are hidden signs, known only to the wise.
