O Lord of Prayer, together with Soma and mighty Indra, may you grant to the devotee the reward he seeks, and may your gift shield him from all harm. The wondrous Lord of the Assembly, so beloved and desired by Indra, the bringer of wealth and wisdom—him we approach with our heartfelt prayers. Without this Lord, even the wise cannot complete the sacrifice, for it is he who unites the inspired thoughts of the sages. He strengthens the offerings, advances the ritual, and his priesthood extends among the gods themselves. I have beheld Naraśaṃsa, most mighty and renowned, whose splendor is like the heavenly abode, filled with festivity and joy. To that beautiful sacrifice you are summoned for protection—come, Agni, together with the Maruts. No god nor mortal can surpass your great power; come, Agni, with the Maruts. Those who know the vast expanse, all the gods without malice—let them come, Agni, with the Maruts. Those fierce ones who have praised the hymn, unconquered in their might; those bright ones, terrible in form, strong in their rule and destroyers of foes—let them come, Agni, with the Maruts. Let those gods, seated in the shining realm of heaven, arrive; let those who shake the mountain peaks and cross the ocean’s expanse come with you, Agni, with the Maruts. Those who stretch forth their rays and, with their might, cross the ocean—let them come. For your former draught, I pour out the sweet Soma; come, Agni, with the Maruts. This hymn, shaped by the inspired, is offered for the birth of the god, the bestower of treasures. The worshipers have yoked their thoughts to speech for Indra, and with sacred branches they have prepared the sacrifice. For the swift and comfortable journey of the Aśvins, they fashioned a chariot, and they fashioned a cow rich in milk. The youthful Ṛbhus, true in word and straight in way, have even remade their parents. May your exhilarations come together with Indra, accompanied by the Maruts and the royal Ādityas. And that new vessel, skillfully crafted by Tvaṣṭṛ the god, he made four times anew. May they, each with fair praises, grant us treasures threefold and sevenfold to the one who presses the Soma. The sacred fires sustained the ritual; with right action, they apportioned the share of the sacrifice among the gods. Here, I call upon Indra and Agni; to them we raise our hymn, and may they both drink the Soma here. O men, praise them in the sacrifices—Indra and Agni, glorious and splendid; sing to them in the Gāyatrī verses. Those whom Mitra praises, Indra and Agni, we invoke for the drinking of Soma. Being mighty, we call upon them; let Indra and Agni come to this pressed Soma offering. You two great lords of the seat, Indra and Agni, protect us; let the childless and lawless be far away. By that truth, keep watch at the place of the wise; Indra and Agni, grant us your protection. At dawn, let the two Aśvins be awakened and come, yoked and ready, to drink this Soma. You two gods, whose chariots are splendid and swift, touching the sky—Aśvins, we call upon you. With your honey-sweet, gracious whip, O Aśvins, may you both make the sacrifice prosper. For you, there is no distance too far; wherever your chariot goes, you reach the house of the Soma-presser. For favor, I call upon Savitṛ, the golden-handed, who knows the path of the gods. Praise Savitṛ, the offspring of the waters, for help; we long for his ordinances. We call upon the distributor, the wise-seeing Savitṛ, for the splendid wealth of the beneficent one. Friends, sit down together; let us praise Savitṛ, the giver, who bestows riches and shines forth. Agni, bring here the wives of the gods, who sit together, and Tvaṣṭṛ, for the drinking of Soma. O Agni, youngest, bring here for help the goddesses—Hotrī, Bhāratī, Varūtrī, and Dhiṣaṇā. May the divine wives of men, unbroken in their wings, come together for us with their favor and great protection. Here I call Indrāṇī for aid, Varuṇānī for well-being, and Agnāyī for the drinking of Soma. Thus, with reverence and devotion, the prayers and invocations rise, seeking the presence and blessings of all the gods and goddesses, that the sacrifice may prosper and the worshiper be protected and enriched.
