In the sacred realm of the ancient seers, the fire god Agni stands as the revered household priest, the divine officiant of sacrifices, and the invoker who bestows treasures upon those who honor him. With a voice filled with devotion, the worshippers call upon Agni, praising him as the worthy recipient of their offerings, both in the past and present. They believe that through Agni, they may receive wealth and nourishment, day by day, growing in renown and heroic strength. Agni, who encompasses the sacrifice from all sides, ensures that their offerings reach the gods, embodying wisdom and truth with a resplendent fame. The worshippers acknowledge that whenever Agni performs good deeds for the faithful, it is a true testament to his nature as Angiras. Each day, at dawn and dusk, the devotees approach Agni with heartfelt reverence, bringing their homage to the king of sacrifices. He shines brightly, guarding the order of the universe, ever-growing in his own sacred abode. The faithful implore Agni to be as approachable as a father to his son, accompanying them in their quest for well-being. As the rituals unfold, the winds of Vayu are summoned. The worshippers prepare beautiful Soma juices, inviting Vayu to partake in their offerings. With hymns that resonate through the air, the singers approach, pressing the Soma, while Vayu’s generous essence flows forth like a nurturing cow, ready for the worshippers to drink. Together with Indra, the mighty god, they are beckoned to partake in the pressed libations, rich with horses and wealth, as the drops of Soma call them to come swiftly. The invocation extends to Mitra and Varuna, the divine guardians of truth and righteousness. With pure skill and the power that comes from their vast insight, they are called upon to grant skill and remove the sins of the worshippers, as they dwell in their spacious abodes. In this sacred gathering, the Ashvins, swift-handed lords of beauty, are invoked. The worshippers, eager for their favor, offer songs filled with gratitude, hoping to please these mighty ones who embody strength and wisdom. As the rituals continue, Indra, the radiant and golden one, is summoned to the Soma-offering, inspired by the prayers of the wise. The worshippers yearn for his presence, eager for him to accept their offerings, as all the gods are invited to partake in the pressed Soma, arriving like dawns to their sisters. The radiant Sarasvati, rich in horses and strength, is also called forth. She, the inspirer of good speech and noble thoughts, blesses the sacrifice, awakening like a great river, shining forth in all thoughts. The worshippers offer their devotion to the divine forces that shape beauty, inviting them to partake in the Soma with the joy and delight that come from such sacred libations. In their earnest desire to know the limits of divine favor, they implore the gods not to pass them by but to come near. They seek Indra’s wisdom, asking for the best gifts for their companions and wishing to gain favor in the eyes of the blessed. They long for the glory of the sacrifice to be brought forth, as the swift one descends, a companion who brings joy to their hearts. As the rituals culminate, Indra, the wielder of a hundred powers, is urged to become the champion in contests, leading the strong ones to victory. The worshippers sing to Indra, the great protector of riches and the excellent friend of the one who presses the Soma, hoping to attain wealth and blessings through his divine grace. Thus, the sacred narrative unfolds, filled with reverence and devotion, as the gods and worshippers intertwine in a dance of offerings and divine presence, seeking harmony and abundance in their lives.
