આનંદદાયક વન, વિશાળ નદીઓ, વિશાળ જળકાંઠા અને શિખરોવાળા પહાડ—all will bring beauty to Kakutstha wherever he goes. પહાડો અને વૃક્ષો—even out of season—diverse flowers and fruits will appear, offering their abundance to Kakutstha. Compassionately, mountains will show their best blossoms and fruits to him, and wondrous, colorful waterfalls will cascade as he arrives. રામ, દશરથપુત્ર, mighty-armed hero—before he travels farther, let us follow him. Such a great soul’s presence is comforting; he is the protector, the refuge, and the goal for all people. “We will serve Sita, and you will serve Raghava,” thus, in their grief, city women spoke to their husbands. રાઘવ જંગલમાં તમારો કલ્યાણ અને સુરક્ષા નિશ્ચિત કરશે; સીતાએ, being a woman, will provide for the welfare and security of the people. In this unpleasant dwelling, with anxious, distracted minds, who can find joy? If Kaikeyi rules—unrighteously and alone—then life holds no value; neither sons nor wealth matter. She who has forsaken her own son and husband for power—whom else would Kaikeyi, the stain of her lineage, not abandon? We will not remain in the kingdom as servants under Kaikeyi; even living with our sons feels like a curse while she lives. Who, having encountered that cruel woman who banishes the king’s son, could live happily with such a wicked, unrighteous one? Everything is afflicted, unsupported, leaderless; because of Kaikeyi, all will soon come to ruin. With Rama gone into exile, the king will not survive; when Dasharatha dies, destruction will surely follow. So, you who are depleted of merit and in dire straits: drink poison, follow Raghava, or go to oblivion. Rama, falsely exiled with his wife and Lakshmana, has left us to Bharata, like beasts handed to a hunter. Rama, elder brother of Lakshmana, dark-complexioned with a face like the full moon, concealed collarbone, destroyer of foes, long-armed, lotus-eyed—he speaks first, sweetly, truthfully, and is of great strength; gentle, beloved by all, pleasing to behold like the moon. Surely that tiger among men, with the stride of a rutting elephant, will beautify the forests as he roams, that great chariot-warrior. Thus, as the city women lamented, tormented by sorrow and fearful as if death approached, they cried out. As the women lamented for Raghava in their homes, the sun set and night arrived. With fires extinguished, conversations and stories silenced, the city shone as if enveloped in darkness. With merchants’ goods quieted, joy lost, and shelter gone, Ayodhya became like the sky bereft of stars. Distressed for Rama, the women grieved as if for a son or brother sent away; they wept, miserable and bewildered for their sons, yet their sorrow for him was greater. Ayodhya became as silent as a vast ocean whose waters have receded, with songs, festivals, dances, and music subdued, joy vanished, and the markets closed. તે villages with distant borders and blooming forests swiftly crossed, viewing them as he went, like arrows shot from excellent horses. He heard the voices of villagers: “Shame on King Dasharatha, who has fallen under the sway of desire.” “Alas, today Kaikeyi is cruel, sinful, and bound to evil; she has broken boundaries and acts in harsh ways. She sends the righteous son of the king, wise, compassionate, and diligent, into exile in the forest. How will Sita, the blessed daughter of Janaka, who has always enjoyed happiness, now experience suffering? Ah, King Dasharatha is without affection, wishing to abandon Rama, his blameless and beloved son, for the sake of the people.”
