जपतस्तु मुनेस्तस्य विश्वामित्रस्य धीमतः । उपतस्थुर्महार्हाणि सर्वाण्यस्त्राणि राघवम् ॥१-२७-
As the wise sage Viśvāmitra recited his chants, all the splendid weapons approached Rāghava.
ऊचुश्च मुदिता रामं सर्वे प्राञ्जलयस्तदा । इमे च परमोदार किंकरास्तव राघव ॥१-२७-
With joy, all the weapons spoke to Rāma, their hands joined in reverence: 'O Rāghava, we are your devoted servants, most noble one.'
यद्यदिच्छसि भद्रं ते तत्सर्वं करवाम वै । ततो रामः प्रसन्नात्मा तैरित्युक्तो महाबलैः ॥१-२७-
'Whatever you desire, may it be auspicious for you; we shall accomplish it all,' they said. Then Rāma, addressed by these mighty beings, became serene in spirit.
ततः प्रीतमना रामो विश्वामित्रं महामुनिम्। अभिवाद्य महातेजा गमनायोपचक्रमे ॥१-२७-
Then, with a heart full of delight, Rāma, radiant in energy, saluted the great sage Viśvāmitra and began to depart.

Listen to the twenty-eighth chapter. This is the twenty-eighth chapter of the glorious Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, in the Bāla Kāṇḍa.
प्रतिगृह्य ततोऽस्त्राणि प्रहृष्टवदनः शुचिः । गच्छन्नेव च काकुत्स्थो विश्वामित्रमथाब्रवीत् ॥१-२८-
Having received the weapons, pure and with a joyful face, the descendant of Kakutstha spoke to Viśvāmitra as they walked.
गृहीतास्त्रोऽस्मि भगवन् दुराधर्षः सुरैरपि । अस्त्राणां त्वहमिच्छामि संहारान् मुनिपुङ्गव ॥१-२८-
'O revered one, I have obtained the weapons and am now unconquerable even by the gods. But, O foremost of sages, I wish to learn the means to withdraw them.'
एवं ब्रुवति काकुत्स्थे विश्वामित्रो महातपाः । संहारान् व्याजहाराथ धृतिमान् सुव्रतः शुचिः ॥१-२८-
When Kakutstha spoke thus, Viśvāmitra, great in austerity, steadfast, disciplined, and pure, then imparted the means of withdrawal.
सत्यवन्तं सत्यकीर्तिं धृष्टं रभसमेव च । प्रतिहारतरं नाम पराङ्मुखमवाङ्मुखम् ॥१-२८-
He taught Satyavanta, Satyakīrti, Dhṛṣṭa, and Rabhasa, as well as Pratihāratara, and the methods for facing and turning away.
लक्ष्यालक्ष्याविमौ चैव दृढनाभसुनाभकौ । दशाक्षशतवक्त्रौ च दशशीर्षशतोदरौ ॥१-२८-
He taught Lakṣya and Alakṣya, Dṛḍhanābha and Sunābhaka, Daśākṣa and Śatavaktra, Daśaśīrṣa and Śatodara.
पद्मनाभमहानाभौ दुन्दुनाभसुनाभकौ । ज्योतिषं शकुनं चैव नैरास्यविमलावुभौ ॥१-२८-
He taught Padmanābha, Mahānābha, Dundunābha, Sunābhaka, Jyotiṣa, Śakuna, and both Nairāsya and Vimala.
यौगन्धरविनिद्रौ च दैत्यप्रमथनौ तथा । शुचिबाहुर्महाबाहुर्निष्कलिर्विरुचस्तथा । सार्चिर्माली धृतिमाली वृत्तिमान् रुचिरस्तथा ॥१-२८-
He taught Yaugandhara and Vinidra, destroyers of demons, Śucibāhu, Mahābāhu, Niṣkali, Viruca, Sārcirmālī, Dhṛtimālī, Vṛttimān, and Rucira.
पित्र्यः सौमनसश्चैव विधूतमकरावुभौ । परवीरं रतिं चैव धनधान्यौ च राघव ॥१-२८-
He taught Pitrya and Saumanasa, both Vidhūtamakaras, Paravīra, Rati, and Dhanadhānya, O Rāghava.
कामरूपं कामरुचिं मोहमावरणं तथा । जृम्भकं सर्वनाभं च पन्थनवरुणौ तथा ॥१-२८-
He taught Kāmarūpa, Kāmaruci, Mohamāvaraṇa, Jṛmbhaka, Sarvanābha, and Panthanavaruṇa.
कृशाश्वतनयान् राम भास्वरान् कामरूपिणः । प्रतीच्छ मम भद्रं ते पात्रभूतोऽसि राघव ॥१-२८-
O Rāma, accept the radiant, shape-shifting sons of Kṛśāśva from me; you are worthy, may it be auspicious for you.
बाढमित्येव काकुत्स्थः प्रहृष्टेनान्तरात्मना । दिव्यभास्वरदेहाश्च मूर्तिमन्तः सुखप्रदाः ॥१-२८-
Kakutstha replied, 'Certainly,' with an inwardly joyful heart. The divine, radiant, embodied weapons appeared, bringing delight.
केचिदङ्गारसदृशाः केचिद् धूमोपमास्तथा । चन्द्रार्कसदृशाः केचित् प्रह्वाञ्जलिपुटास्तथा ॥१-२८-
Some resembled glowing embers, some were like smoke, some shone like the moon and sun, and some stood with hands joined in reverence.
रामं प्राञ्जलयो भूत्वाब्रुवन् मधुरभाषिणः । इमे स्म नरशार्दूल शाधि किं करवाम ते ॥१-२८-
With hands joined in reverence, those sweet-spoken men addressed Rama: 'Here we are, O tiger among men; command us, what shall we do for you?'
गम्यतामिति तानाह यथेष्टं रघुनन्दनः । मानसाः कार्यकालेषु साहाय्यं मे करिष्यथ ॥१-२८-
He said to them, 'Go as you wish,' O descendant of Raghu; 'in times of need, you will assist me with your minds.'
अथ ते राममामन्त्र्य कृत्वा चापि प्रदक्षिणम् । एवमस्त्विति काकुत्स्थमुक्त्वा जग्मुर्यथागतम् ॥१-२८-
Then, having taken leave of Rama and circumambulated him, they said to Kakutstha, 'So be it,' and departed as they had come.
स च तान् राघवो ज्ञात्वा विश्वामित्रं महामुनिम् । गच्छन्नेवाथ मधुरं श्लक्ष्णं वचनमब्रवीत् ॥१-२८-
Raghava, recognizing them, spoke to the great sage Vishvamitra as he walked, uttering gentle and sweet words.
किमेतन्मेघसंकाशं पर्वतस्याविदूरतः । वृक्षखण्डमितो भाति परं कौतूहलं हि मे ॥१-२८-
What is that cluster of trees, dark as clouds, shining near the mountain? My curiosity about it is truly great.
दर्शनीयं मृगाकीर्णं मनोहरमतीव च । नानाप्रकारैः शकुनैर्वल्गुभाषैरलङ्कृतम् ॥१-२८-
It is beautiful to behold, teeming with deer and exceedingly charming, adorned by birds of many kinds with delightful calls.
निःसृताःस्मो मुनिश्रेष्ठ कान्ताराद् रोमहर्षणात् । अनया त्ववगच्छामि देशस्य सुखवत्तया ॥१-२८-
We have emerged, O foremost of sages, from the dense forest that thrilled us; by this, I understand the pleasantness of this region.
सर्वं मे शंस भगवन् कस्याश्रमपदं त्विदम् । संप्राप्ता यत्र ते पापा ब्रह्मघ्ना दुष्टचारिणः ॥१-२८-
Tell me everything, O revered one: whose hermitage is this, where those wicked, sinful slayers of Brahmins came upon you?
तव यज्ञस्य विघ्नाय दुरात्मानो महामुने । भगवंस्तस्य को देशः सा यत्र तव याज्ञिकी ॥१-२८-
To obstruct your sacrifice, O great sage, those evil-minded ones came; O revered one, what is that place where your sacrificial rites are performed?

Hear now the twenty-ninth sarga in the glorious Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, in the Bāla Kāṇḍa.
अथ तस्याप्रमेयस्य वचनं परिपृच्छतः । विश्वामित्रो महातेजा व्याख्यातुमुपचक्रमे ॥१-२९-
Then, as he asked about the immeasurable one, the radiant Vishvamitra began to explain.
इह राम महाबाहो विष्णुर्देवनमस्कृतः । वर्षाणि सुबहूनीह तथा युगशतानि च ॥१-२९-
Here, O Rama of mighty arms, Vishnu, revered by the gods, spent many years and hundreds of ages.
एतस्मिन्नन्तरे राम कश्यपोग्निसमप्रभः । अदित्या सहितो राम दीप्यमान इवौजसा ॥१-२९-
Meanwhile, O Rama, Kashyapa, radiant as fire, together with Aditi, shone with energy.
