कर्तव्यं सुमहत् कर्म सुराणां राजसूनुना । एवमुक्त्वा सुराः सर्वे जग्मुर्हृष्टा विहायसम् ॥१-२६-
'A great task for the gods is to be accomplished by the prince. Having spoken thus, all the gods, delighted, departed into the sky.'
विश्वामित्रं पूजयन्तस्ततः संध्या प्रवर्तते । ततो मुनिवरः प्रीतस्ताटकावधतोषितः ॥१-२६-
Honoring Viśvāmitra, then twilight began. The great sage, pleased by the slaying of Tāṭakā, was filled with joy.
मूर्ध्नि राममुपाघ्राय इदं वचनमब्रवीत् । इहाद्य रजनीं राम वसाम शुभदर्शन ॥१-२६-
He embraced Rāma on the head and spoke these words: 'O Rāma of auspicious appearance, let us stay here tonight.'
श्वः प्रभाते गमिष्यामस्तदाश्रमपदं मम । विश्वामित्रवचः श्रुत्वा हृष्टो दशरथात्मजः ॥१-२६-
'Tomorrow at dawn, we shall go to my hermitage.' Hearing Viśvāmitra's words, the son of Daśaratha rejoiced.
उवास रजनीं तत्र ताटकाया वने सुखम् । मुक्तशापं वनं तच्च तस्मिन्नेव तदाहनि । रमणीयं विबभ्राज यथा चैत्ररथं वनम् ॥१-२६-
He spent the night there happily in Tāṭakā's forest. That very day, the forest, freed from its curse, shone beautifully like the Caitraratha grove.
निहत्य तां यक्षसुतां स रामः ::प्रशस्यमानः सुरसिद्धसङ्घैः । उवास तस्मिन् मुनिना सहैव ::प्रभातवेलां प्रतिबोध्यमानः ॥१-२६-
Having slain that yakṣī, Rāma, praised by hosts of gods and siddhas, stayed there with the sage, being awakened at dawn.

Here begins the twenty-seventh sarga in the glorious Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, Bālakāṇḍa.
अथ तां रजनीमुष्य विश्वामित्रो महायशाः । प्रहस्य राघवं वाक्यमुवाच मधुरस्वरम् ॥१-२७-
Then, after spending the night, the renowned Viśvāmitra smiled and addressed Rāghava in a sweet voice.
परितुष्टोऽस्मि भद्रं ते राजपुत्र महायशः । प्रीत्या परमया युक्तो ददाम्यस्त्राणि सर्वशः ॥१-२७-
'I am pleased with you, O illustrious prince. Out of great affection, I shall give you all the weapons.'
देवासुरगणान् वापि सगन्धर्वोरगान् भुवि । यैरमित्रान् प्रसह्याजौ वशीकृत्य जयिष्यसि ॥१-२७-
'With these, you will conquer enemies on earth—whether gods, asuras, gandharvas, or serpents—subduing them in battle.'
तानि दिव्यानि भद्रं ते ददाम्यस्त्राणि सर्वशः । दण्डचक्रं महद् दिव्यं तव दास्यामि राघव ॥१-२७-
'I bestow upon you all these divine weapons, O fortunate one. I shall give you the great and divine Daṇḍa-cakra, O Rāghava.'
धर्मचक्रं ततो वीर कालचक्रं तथैव च । विष्णुचक्रं तथात्युग्रमैन्द्रं चक्रं तथैव च ॥१-२७-
Then, O hero, the Wheel of Righteousness, the Wheel of Time likewise, the fierce Discus of Vishnu, and the Indra's discus as well.
वज्रमस्त्रं नरश्रेष्ठ शैवं शूलवरं तथा । अस्त्रं ब्रह्मशिरश्चैव ऐषीकमपि राघव ॥१-२७-
The thunderbolt missile, O best of men, the excellent trident of Shiva, the Brahmaśiras weapon, and the missile of Īśa, O Rāghava.
ददामि ते महाबाहो ब्राह्ममस्त्रमनुत्तमम् । गदे द्वे चैव काकुत्स्थ मोदकीशिखरी शुभे ॥१-२७-
I give you, mighty-armed one, the supreme Brahma missile, and two maces, O descendant of Kakutstha, named Modakī and Śikharī, both auspicious.
प्रदीप्ते नरशार्दूल प्रयच्छामि नृपात्मज । धर्मपाशमहं राम कालपाशं तथैव च ॥१-२७-
O tiger among men, O prince, I bestow upon you the blazing noose of Dharma and likewise the noose of Time, O Rāma.
वारुणं पाशमस्त्रं च ददान्यहमनुत्तमम् । अशनी द्वे प्रयच्छामि शुष्कार्द्रे रघुनन्दन ॥१-२७-
I give you the Varuna noose and the supreme Varuna missile; I grant you two thunderbolts, dry and wet, O delight of the Raghus.
ददामि चास्त्रं पैनाकमस्त्रं नारायणं तथा । आग्नेयमस्त्रं दयितं शिखरं नाम नामतः ॥१-२७-
I give you the Pinaka missile and the Narayana missile as well; the beloved Agneya missile, called Śikhara by name.
वायव्यं प्रथमं नाम ददामि तव चानघ । अस्त्रं हयशिरो नाम क्रौञ्चमस्त्रं तथैव च ॥१-२७-
O sinless one, I give you first the Vāyavya missile by name, the Hayashira missile, and likewise the Krauncha missile.
शक्तिद्वयं च काकुत्स्थ ददामि तव राघव । कङ्कालं मुसलं घोरं कापालमथ किङ्किणीम् ॥१-२७-
O descendant of Kakutstha, O Rāghava, I give you two spears, the dreadful Kankāla, the mace, the skull, and the Kiṅkiṇī.
वधार्थं रक्षसां यानि ददाम्येतानि सर्वशः । वैद्याधरं महास्त्रं च नन्दनं नाम नामतः ॥१-२७-
All these I give for the destruction of the Rākṣasas; the great Vidyādhara missile, and the one called Nandana by name.
असिरत्नं महाबाहो ददामि नृवरात्मज । गान्धर्वमस्त्रं दयितं मोहनं नाम नामतः ॥१-२७-
O mighty-armed one, O son of the foremost king, I give you the jewel among swords, the beloved Gandharva missile, called Mohana by name.
प्रस्वापनं प्रशमनं दद्मि सौम्यं च राघव । वर्षणं शोषणं चैव संतापनविलापने ॥१-२७-
I give you the Prasvāpana (sleep-inducing), the Praśamana (pacifying), and the gentle missile, O Rāghava; the Varṣaṇa (causing rain), Śoṣaṇa (drying), and the Saṃtāpana and Vilāpana (causing heat and lamentation).
मादनं चैव दुर्धर्षं कन्दर्पदयितं तथा । गान्धर्वमस्त्रं दयितं मानवं नाम नामतः ॥१-२७-
The irresistible Mādana missile, beloved of Kandarpa, and the dear Gandharva missile called Mānava by name.
पैशाचमस्त्रं दयितं मोहनं नाम नामतः । प्रतीच्छ नरशार्दूल राजपुत्र महायशः ॥१-२७-
The beloved Piśāca missile, called Mohana by name; receive these, O tiger among men, O illustrious prince.
तामसं नरशार्दूल सौमनं च महाबलम् । संवर्तं चैव दुर्धर्षं मौसलं च नृपात्मज ॥१-२७-
The Tāmasa missile, O tiger among men, the mighty Saumana, the irresistible Saṃvarta, and the Mausala, O prince.
सत्यमस्त्रं महाबाहो तथा मायामयं परम् । सौरं तेजःप्रभं नाम परतेजोऽपकर्षणम् ॥१-२७-
O mighty-armed one, the Satyam missile and the supreme Māyāmaya; the Sauram, called Tejaḥprabha, which draws away the power of others.
सोमास्त्रं शिशिरं नाम त्वाष्ट्रमस्त्रं सुदारुणम् । दारुणं च भगस्यापि शीतेषुमथ मानवम् ॥१-२७-
The Soma missile, called Śiśira (cooling), the dreadful Tvaṣṭra missile, the fierce Bhaga missile, the Śīteṣu, and the Mānava.
एतान् राम महाबाहो कामरूपान् महाबलान् । गृहाण परमोदारान् क्षिप्रमेव नृपात्मज ॥१-२७-
O Rāma, mighty-armed one, take these, which assume any form at will, of great power and utmost excellence, O prince, at once.
स्थितस्तु प्राङ्मुखो भूत्वा शुचिर्मुनिवरस्तदा । ददौ रामाय सुप्रीतो मन्त्रग्राममनुत्तमम् ॥१-२७-
Then, the great sage, having purified himself and facing east, joyfully gave to Rāma the supreme collection of mantras.
सर्वसंग्रहणं येषां दैवतैरपि दुर्लभम् । तान्यस्त्राणि तदा विप्रो राघवाय न्यवेदयत् ॥१-२७-
The sage then revealed to Rāghava those weapons whose complete acquisition is difficult even for the gods.
