केचिद्रजतसङ्काशा: केचित् क्षतजसन्निभा: । पीतमाञ्जिष्ठवर्णाश्च केचिन्मणिवरप्रभा: ।। २.९४.
Some peaks resemble silver, some are like fresh blood, some are yellow or crimson, and others shine with the radiance of precious gems.
पुष्पार्ककेतकाभाश्च केचिज्ज्योतीरसप्रभा: । विराजन्ते ऽचलेन्द्रस्य देशा धातुविभूषिता: ।। २.९४.
Some regions gleam like flowers, sunlight, or ketaka blossoms, some shine with the glow of fire, all these lands of the lord of mountains are adorned with minerals.
नानामृगगणद्वीपितरक्ष्वृक्षगणैर्वृत: । अदुष्टैर्भात्ययं शैलो बहुपक्षिसमायुत: ।। २.९४.
This mountain, filled with many kinds of deer, wild beasts, tigers, bears, and trees, and inhabited by harmless creatures, shines with flocks of birds.
आम्रजम्ब्वसनैर्लोध्रै: प्रियालै: पनसैर्धवै: । अङ्कोलैर्भव्यतिनिशैर्बिल्वतिन्दुकवेणुभि: ।। २.९४.
It is covered with mango, jambū, asana, lodhra, priyāla, jackfruit, dhava, aṅkola, bhavyatiniśa, bilva, tinduka, and bamboo trees.
काश्मर्यरिष्टवरुणैर्मधूकैस्तिलकैस्तथा । बदर्य्यामलकैर्नीपैर्वेत्रधन्वनबीजकै: ।। २.९४.
There are kāśmarya, ariṣṭa, varuṇa, madhūka, tilaka, badarī, āmalaka, nīpa, vetra, dhanvana, and bījaka trees as well.
पुष्पवद्भि: फलोपेतैश्छायावद्भिर्मनोरमै: । एवमादिभिराकीर्ण: श्रियं पुष्यत्ययं गिरि: ।। २.९४.
Adorned with such trees, bearing flowers and fruits, with delightful shade, this mountain flourishes in beauty.
शैलप्रस्थेषु रम्येषु पश्येमान् रोमहर्षणान् । किन्नरान् द्वन्द्वशो भद्रे रममाणान् मनस्विन: ।। २.९४.
On the lovely slopes of the mountain, see these wondrous, awe-inspiring kinnaras, wise ones, delighting together in pairs, O gentle one.
शाखावसक्तान् खङ्गांश्च प्रवराण्यम्बराणि च । पश्च विद्याधरस्त्रीणां क्रीडोद्देशान् मनोरमान् ।। २.९४.
See the swords hanging from branches and the splendid garments—these are the enchanting playgrounds of the Vidyādhara women.
जलप्रपातैरुद्भेदैर्निष्यन्दैश्च क्वचित् क्वचित् । स्रवद्भिर्भात्ययं शैल: स्रवन्मद इव द्विप: ।। २.९४.
With waterfalls, springs, and streams flowing here and there, this mountain shines, like an elephant exuding fragrant ichor.
गुहासमीरणो गन्धान् नानापुष्पभवान् वहन् । घ्राणतर्प्पणमभ्येत्य कं नरं न प्रहर्षयेत् ।। २.९४.
The mountain breeze, carrying fragrances from various flowers, comes to delight the sense of smell—who would not be gladdened by it?
यदीह शरदो ऽनेकास्त्वया सार्द्धमनिन्दिते । लक्ष्मणेन च वत्स्यामि न मां शोक: प्रधक्ष्यति ।। २.९४.
If I dwell here for many autumns with you, O faultless one, and with Lakṣmaṇa, sorrow will not consume me.
बहुपुष्पफले रम्ये नानाद्विजगणायुते । विचित्रशिखरे ह्यस्मिन् रतवानस्मि भामिनि ।। २.९४.
On this charming mountain, abundant with flowers and fruits and filled with many kinds of birds, with its varied peaks, I find delight, O lovely one.
अनेन वनवासेन मया प्राप्तं फलद्वयम् । पितुश्चानृणता धर्मे भरतस्य प्रियं तथा ।। २.९४.
Through this exile in the forest, I have gained two fruits: I have fulfilled my duty to my father, and I have done what is pleasing to Bharata.
वैदेहि रमसे कच्चिच्चित्रकूटे मया सह । पश्यन्ती विविधान् भावान् मनोवाक्कायसंयतान् ।। २.९४.
Vaidehi, do you find joy here on Chitrakuta with me, as you observe the many forms of life, restrained in mind, speech, and body?
इदमेवामृतं प्राहू राज्ञि राजर्षय: परे । वनवासं भवार्थाय प्रेत्य मे प्रपितामहा: ।। २.९४.
The royal sages of old declared this alone to be immortal: my ancestors undertook exile in the forest for the sake of spiritual purpose after death.
शिला: शैलस्य शोभन्ते विशाला: शतशो ऽभित: । बहुला बहुलैर्वर्णैर्नीलपीतसितारुणै: ।। २.९४.
The broad rocks of the mountain shine all around in their hundreds, abundant with many colors—blue, yellow, white, and red.
निशि भान्त्यचलेन्द्रस्य हुताशनशिखा इव । ओषध्य: स्वप्रभालक्ष्या भ्राजमाना: सहस्रश: ।। २.९४.
At night, the herbs, radiant with their own light, shine by the thousands on the lord of mountains, like tongues of sacred fire.
केचित् क्षयनिभा देशा: केचिदुद्यानसन्निभा: । केचिदेकशिला भान्ति पर्वतस्यास्य भामिनि ।। २.९४.
Some regions of this mountain resemble dwellings, others appear like gardens, and some, O beautiful one, shine as if formed from a single rock.
भित्त्वेव वसुधां भाति चित्रकूट: समुत्थित: । चित्रकूटस्य कूटो ऽसौ दृश्यते सर्वत: शुभ: ।। २.९४.
It is as if Chitrakuta has burst forth, splitting the earth; the peak of Chitrakuta is seen everywhere, auspicious in every direction.
कुष्ठपुन्नागस्ऺथगरभूर्जपत्रोत्तरच्छदान् । कामिनां स्वास्तरान् पश्य कुशेशयदलायुतान् ।। २.९४.
See, the beds of lovers are covered with leaves of kuṣṭha, punnāga, asoka, and bhūrja trees, and adorned with lotus petals.
मृदिताश्चापविद्धाश्च दृश्यन्ते कमलस्रज: । कामिभिर्वनिते पश्य फलानि विविधानि च ।। २.९४.
See, O fair one, the garlands of lotuses, crushed and cast aside by lovers, and the various fruits scattered about.
वस्वौकसारां नलिनीमत्येतीवोत्तरान् कुरून् । पर्वतश्चित्रकूटो ऽसौ बहुमूलफलोदक: ।। २.९४.
This Chitrakuta mountain, rich in roots, fruits, and water, surpasses even the lotus-filled lakes of the northern Kurus, the abodes of the gods.
इमं तु कालं वनिते विजह्रिवांस्त्वया च सीते सह लक्ष्मणेन च । रतिं प्रपत्स्ये कुलधर्मवर्द्धनीं सतां पथि स्वैर्नियमै: परै: स्थित: ।। २.९४.
O lovely one, I will spend this time with you, Sita, and with Lakshmana, delighting in a joy that upholds the noble path, established in the highest self-restraint.
इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीये आदिकाव्ये श्रीमदयोध्याकाण्डे चतुर्नवतितम: सर्ग:
Thus ends the ninety-fourth sarga in the glorious Ayodhyā Kāṇḍa of the ancient and illustrious Rāmāyaṇa composed by sage Vālmīki.

Rama, lotus-eyed, spoke to the noble princess, daughter of the king of Videha, whose face was lovely as the moon.
विचित्रपुलिनां रम्यां हंससारससेविताम् । कमलैरुपसम्पन्नां पश्य मन्दाकिनीं नदीम् ।। २.९५.
Behold the Mandakini river, charming with its varied sandbanks, frequented by swans and cranes, and adorned with lotuses.
नानाविधैस्तीररुहैर्वृतां पुष्पफलद्रुमै: । राजन्तीं राजराजस्य नलिनीमिव सर्वत: ।। २.९५.
See how she is encircled on all sides by many kinds of trees bearing flowers and fruits, shining like a lotus pond of a king of kings.
मृगयूथनिपीतानि कलुषाम्भांसि साम्प्रतम् । तीर्थानि रमणीयानि रतिं सञ्जनयन्ति मे ।। २.९५.
Now, the waters at the fords, muddied by herds of deer, are delightful to me and awaken my joy.
जटाजिनधरा: काले वल्कलोत्तरवासस: । ऋषयस्त्ववगाहन्ते नदीं मन्दाकिनीं प्रिये ।। २.९५.
At the proper time, the sages, wearing matted locks and deer skins, and clad in bark garments, enter the Mandakini river, beloved.
