एतस्यास्तु सुतौ देव्या: कुमारौ देववर्णिनौ । उभौ लक्ष्मणशत्रुघ्नौ वीरौ सत्यपराक्रमौ ।। २.९२.
'This queen has two sons, both resplendent as gods—Lakṣmaṇa and Śatrughna—heroes of true valor.'
यस्या: कृते नरव्याघ्रौ जीवनाशमितो गतौ । राजपुत्रविहीनश्च स्वर्गं दशरथो गत: ।। २.९२.
'For her sake, those tigers among men risked their lives, and Daśaratha, deprived of his sons, has gone to heaven.'
क्रोधनामकृतप्रज्ञां दृप्तां सुभगमानिनीम् । ऐश्वर्यकामां कैकेयीमनार्य्यामार्यरूपिणीम् ।। २.९२.
'Know Kaikeyī as my mother—angry, lacking wisdom, proud, thinking herself fortunate, craving power, ignoble though she appears noble.'
ममैतां मातरं विद्धि नृशंसां पापनिश्चयाम् । यतो मूलं हि पश्यामि व्यसनं महदात्मन: ।। २.९२.
'Know this mother of mine to be cruel and intent on evil, for I see her as the root of this great calamity for my father.'
इत्युक्त्वा नरशार्दूलो बाष्पगद्गदया गिरा । स निशश्वास ताम्राक्षो नाग: क्रुद्ध इव श्वसन् ।। २.९२.
Having spoken thus, the tiger among men, his voice choked with tears, sighed deeply, his eyes red like an enraged elephant.
भरद्वाजो महर्षिस्तं ब्रुवन्तं भरतं तथा । प्रत्युवाच महाबुद्धिरिदं वचनमर्थवत् ।। २.९२.
The great sage Bharadvāja, wise and discerning, addressed Bharata as he spoke thus, with meaningful words.
न दोषेणावगन्तव्या कैकेयी भरत त्वया । रामप्रव्राजनं ह्येतत् सुखोदर्कं भविष्यति ।। २.९२.
'Kaikeyī should not be blamed by you, Bharata; for Rāma's exile will bring about a happy outcome.'
देवानां दानवानां च ऋषीणां भावितात्मनाम् । हितमेव भविष्यद्धि रामप्रव्राजनादिह ।। २.९२.
'For gods, demons, and seers of purified souls, Rāma's exile here will indeed prove beneficial.'
अभिवाद्य तु संसिद्ध: कृत्वा चैनं प्रदक्षिणम् । आमन्त्र्य भरत: सेन्यं युज्यतामित्यचोदयत् ।। २.९२.
Having duly offered his respects and circumambulated him, Bharata then addressed the army, instructing them to prepare for departure.
ततो वाजिरथान् युक्त्वा दिव्यान् हेमपरिष्कृतान् । अध्यारोहत् प्रयाणार्थी बहून् बहुविधो जन: ।। २.९२.
Then, after harnessing splendid chariots adorned with gold, a great multitude of people, eager to set out, mounted them.
गजकन्या गजाश्चैव हेमकक्ष्या: पताकिन: । जीमूता इव घर्मान्ते सघोषा: सम्प्रतस्थिरे ।। २.९२.
Elephant maidens and elephants with golden trappings and banners, like clouds at the end of summer, set out with resounding noise.
विविधान्यपि यानानि महान्ति च लघूनि च । प्रययु: सुमहार्हाणि पादैरेव पदातय: ।। २.९२.
Various vehicles, both large and small, departed, and the highly esteemed foot soldiers proceeded on foot.
अथ यानप्रवेकैस्तु कौसल्याप्रमुखा: स्त्रिय: । रामदर्शनकांक्षिण्य: प्रययुर्मुदितास्तदा ।। २.९२.
Then, the women led by Kausalya, desiring to see Rama, joyfully departed in covered carriages.
चन्द्रार्कतरुणाभासां नियुक्तां शिबिकां शुभाम् । आस्थाय प्रययौ श्रीमान् भरत: सपरिच्छद: ।। २.९२.
Bharata, resplendent and surrounded by his retinue, set out in a splendid palanquin shining like the moon, sun, and dawn.
सा प्रयाता महासेना गजवाजिरथाकुला । दक्षिणां दिशमावृत्य महामेघ इवोत्थित: ।। २.९२.
That great army, filled with elephants, horses, and chariots, moved southward, spreading out like a great rising cloud.
वनानि तु व्यतिक्रम्य जुष्टानि मृगपक्षिभि: । गङ्गाया: परवेलायां गिरिष्वपि नदीषु च ।। २.९२.
Passing through forests teeming with deer and birds, they reached the far banks of the Ganga, as well as mountains and rivers.
सा सम्प्रहृष्टद्विजवाजियोधा वित्रासयन्ती मृगपक्षिसङ्घान् । महद्वनं तत्प्रतिगाहमाना रराज सेना भरतस्य तत्र ।। २.९२.
That army of Bharata, filled with delighted priests, horses, and warriors, frightening flocks of deer and birds as it advanced through the great forest, shone brilliantly there.
इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीये आदिकाव्ये श्रीमदयोध्याकाण्डे द्विनवतितम: सर्ग:
Thus ends the ninety-second sarga of the glorious Ayodhya Kanda in the ancient and revered Ramayana composed by the sage Valmiki.

As that great army, adorned with banners, advanced, the wild elephants, struck with fear, fled with their herds.
ऋक्षा: पृषतसङ्घाश्च रुरवश्च समतन्त: । दृश्यन्ते वनराजीषु गिरिष्वपि नदीषु च ।। २.९३.
Bears, herds of spotted deer, and antelopes were seen in the forest groves, as well as on the mountains and by the rivers.
स सम्प्रतस्थे धर्मात्मा प्रीतो दशरथात्मज: । वृतो महत्या नादिन्या सेनया चतुरङ्गया ।। २.९३.
The righteous son of Dasharatha, pleased, set out surrounded by his great, resounding fourfold army.
सागरौघनिभा सेना भरतस्य महात्मन: । महीं सञ्छादयामास प्रावृषि द्यामिवाम्बुद: ।। २.९३.
Bharata's mighty army, resembling a mass of ocean waves, covered the earth as a rain cloud covers the sky in the rainy season.
चिरकालमित्यनेन कदाचिल्लक्ष्यत इति गम्यते ।। २.९३.
From this, it is inferred that a long time has passed.
स यात्वा दूरमध्वानं सुपरिश्रान्तवाहन: । उवाच भरत: श्रीमान् वसिष्ठं मन्त्रिणां वरम् ।। २.९३.
Having traveled a long distance, with his vehicles thoroughly fatigued, the illustrious Bharata spoke to Vasistha, foremost among counselors.
यादृशं लक्ष्यते रूपं यथा चैव श्रुतं मया । व्यक्तं प्राप्ता: स्म तं देशं भरद्वाजो यमब्रवीत् ।। २.९३.
From the appearance and as I have heard, it is clear we have reached the place that Bharadvaja described.
अयं गिरिश्चित्रकूट इयं मन्दाकिनी नदी । एतत् प्रकाशते दूरान्नीलमेघनिभं वनम् ।। २.९३.
Here is Mount Chitrakuta, here is the Mandakini river, and from afar that forest appears, dark as a rain cloud.
गिरे: सानूनि रम्याणि चित्रकूटस्य सम्प्रति । वारणैरवमृद्यन्ते मामकै: पर्वतोपमै: ।। २.९३.
The delightful slopes of Chitrakuta mountain are now being trampled by my elephants, who are themselves as mighty as mountains.
मुञ्चन्ति कुसुमान्येते नगा: पर्वतसानुषु । नीला इवातपापाये तोयं तोयधरा घना: ।। २.९३.
These trees on the mountain slopes are shedding their blossoms, just as rain clouds release water when the heat subsides.
किन्नराचरितं देशं पश्य शत्रुघ्न पर्वतम् । मृगै: समन्तादाकीर्णं मकरैरिव सागरम् ।। २.९३.
Look, Shatrughna, at this mountain region frequented by Kinnaras, surrounded everywhere by deer, like the ocean is by makaras.
एते मृगगणा भान्ति शीघ्रवेगा: प्रचोदिता: । वायुप्रविद्धा शरदि मेघराजिरिवाम्बरे ।। २.९३.
These herds of deer, swift and urged onward, shine like rows of clouds scattered across the autumn sky by the wind.
