Filled with divine porridge, the vessel was held close like a beloved wife, grasped with broad arms, as if it were a creation of illusion.
Then the king, with joined palms, addressed him: 'O Lord, you are welcome! What shall I do for you?'
Then the man born of the Creator spoke these words again: 'O King, by worshipping the gods, you have now obtained this.'
O tiger among men, take this divine pāyasa, made by the gods, which brings forth offspring, is blessed, and increases health.
Give it to your worthy wives, saying, 'Eat this.' Through them, O king, you shall obtain sons for whose sake you are performing this sacrifice.
The king, pleased, accepted with bowed head that golden vessel, given by the gods, filled with divine food.
He respectfully greeted that wondrous, marvelous, and pleasing being, and, filled with the highest joy, walked around him in reverence.
Then Daśaratha, having received the pāyasa made by the gods, was supremely delighted, like a poor man who has found wealth.
After accomplishing that wondrous and radiant task, that being, renowned for its marvel, vanished right there.
The inner chambers shone with rays of joy, as the beautiful autumn sky shines with the beams of the moon.
Entering the inner chambers, he said this to Kausalyā: 'Receive this pāyasa, for the sake of obtaining a son for yourself.'
Then the king gave half of the pāyasa to Kausalyā, and from that half, he gave a further half to Sumitrā.
For the sake of obtaining a son, he gave the remaining half to Kaikeyī, and again gave the last portion of the pāyasa, like nectar, to Sumitrā.
Reflecting, the wise king again gave Sumitrā a share; thus the king gave the pāyasa separately to his wives.
Having received the pāyasa in this way, all the king's noble wives felt honored, their hearts filled with great joy.
Then those noble wives of the king, having partaken separately of the excellent pāyasa, soon conceived, their brilliance equal to fire and the sun.
Then the king, seeing his wives pregnant, regained his peace of mind and was as delighted as Indra in heaven, honored by hosts of gods, perfected beings, and sages.

Listen now to the seventeenth sarga in the glorious Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, Bālakāṇḍa.
When Viṣṇu had entered the state of being a son to that great-souled king, the self-born Lord addressed all the gods thus:
'For the truthful and heroic king, who seeks the welfare of us all, create powerful helpers for Viṣṇu, able to assume any form.'
'Let them be masters of illusion, valiant, swift as the wind, skilled in policy, endowed with intelligence, and equal to Viṣṇu in valor.'
Endowed with irresistible strength, unknown means of defeat, and divine forms, they were fully possessed of all the qualities of celestial weapons, as if they had partaken of ambrosia.
Among the foremost of the Apsarases, in the bodies of Gandharva women, in the daughters of Yakshas and Nagas, and among the Riksha and Vidyadhari women,
And in the bodies of Kinnari women, as well as in those of Vanara females, you shall create sons in the form of monkeys, equal in might.
Already before, I created Jambavan, the foremost of bears; he was suddenly born from my own yawn.
Thus addressed by the Lord and having promised to obey his command, they then begot sons in the forms of monkeys.
Great sages, Siddhas, Vidyadharas, Nagas, and Charanas also produced heroic sons, dwellers of the forest.
Indra begot Vali, the lord of the monkeys, equal to Mahendra himself; the Sun, best among the shining ones, begot Sugriva.
Brihaspati begot Tara, the great monkey, the wisest and most excellent among all the chief monkeys.
The illustrious Gandhamadana was the son of Kubera; Vishvakarma begot Nala, the great monkey.
