Having assigned Lakṣmaṇa together with the officiating priests to the horse-sacrifice ritual, then Kakutstha, accompanied by the army, went to Naimisha.
Seeing the sacrificial enclosure, wondrous beyond compare, the mighty-armed and illustrious one was filled with supreme amazement and spoke these words.
While he was residing in Naimisha, all the kings brought offerings, and Rāma received them with honor.
The wise and mighty best of men gave orders to the highly esteemed attendants and the great-souled kings, along with their followers.
Bharata, together with Śatrughna, quickly arranged food, drink, and garments for the great-souled ones and their followers.
At that time, the great-souled monkeys, together with Sugrīva, humbly served the brahmins with offerings.
And Vibhīṣaṇa, surrounded by many garlanded rākṣasas, performed worship for the great-souled sages of fierce austerity.
Thus, the horse-sacrifice was conducted in excellent order; the guarding of the horse was carried out by Lakṣmaṇa. Such was the supreme and foremost sacrifice of the lion among kings.
No other sound was heard there at the horse-sacrifice of the great-souled one, except, 'Give freely and confidently as long as the petitioners are satisfied.'
All things were given in the midst of the sacrifice by the great-souled one, including various kinds of cattle and also pieces of land.
No word of refusal ever left the lips of the donor as long as there were petitioners; whatever was asked was seen to be given by the monkeys and rākṣasas.
No one there was dirty, miserable, or emaciated at that excellent sacrifice of the king, surrounded by joyful and well-nourished people.
And those great souls, the sages who lived long lives there, did not recall such a sacrifice, nor had it ever occurred at any time.
He who performed the proper rites with gold obtained gold; the seeker of wealth received wealth, and the seeker of gems received only gems.
Heaps of silver, gold, stones, and garments, being given without ceasing, were seen everywhere.
Such wealth had never been seen before, not even by Indra, Kubera, Yama, or Varuna; so declared those ascetics rich in austerity.
Everywhere stood the monkeys, and everywhere the rākṣasas; with full hands, they generously gave garments, wealth, and food to those who sought them.
Such was the sacrifice of the lion among kings, endowed with all virtues; it continued for a full year and more, and did not diminish.
Thus ends the ninety-second sarga in the glorious Uttarakāṇḍa of the venerable Rāmāyaṇa, the first epic composed by sage Vālmīki.
While that wondrous sacrifice was underway, the eminent sage Vālmīki swiftly arrived with his disciples.
Seeing the sacrifice, radiant and marvelous to behold, he made splendid huts for the sages in a secluded spot.
He placed many carts, filled with beautiful fruits and roots, near the charming hermitage of Vālmīki, not far away.
Vālmīki, of immense brilliance and supreme spirit, was honored by the king and by the great sages, and dwelt there.
He spoke to his two confident disciples: 'Go forth with concentration and sing the entire poem of the Rāmāyaṇa with utmost joy.'
In the sacred hermitages, in the dwellings of the Brahmins, on the streets, on the royal roads, and in the houses of the rulers,
At the entrance to Rāma's palace, wherever people are engaged in work, and especially before the officiating priests, it should be sung.
And here are fruits, sweet and of various kinds, grown on the mountain peaks; enjoy them as you sing.
You will not feel fatigue, my children, after eating the fruits and well-washed roots; you will leave the city refreshed.
If Rāma, the king, calls for you to recite for his hearing, then let the singing begin before the assembled sages.
Twenty sargas should be sung each day with sweet voices, following the many measures I have previously prescribed.
