तेनोरसि निबद्धेन हारेण महता कपिः । रराज हेमशैलेन्द्रश्चन्द्रेणाक्रान्तमस्तकः ।। ७.४०.
With that great necklace bound upon his chest, the monkey shone like a golden mountain whose summit is covered by the moon.
श्रुत्वा तु राघवस्यैतदुत्थायोत्थाय वानराः । प्रणम्य शिरसा पादौ निर्जग्मुस्ते महाबलाः ।। ७.४०.
Hearing this from Rāghava, the mighty monkeys rose, bowed their heads to his feet, and departed.
सुग्रीवः स च रामेण निरन्तरमुरोगतः । विभीषणश्च धर्मात्मा सर्वे ते बाष्पविक्लवाः ।। ७.४०.
Sugrīva, who was inseparable from Rāma, and the righteous Vibhīṣaṇa—all of them were overcome with tears.
सर्वे च ते बाष्पकलाः साश्रुनेत्रा विचेतसः । सम्मूढा इव दुःखेन त्यजन्तो राघवं तदा ।। ७.४०.
All of them, their eyes filled with tears and minds bewildered by grief, seemed lost as they took leave of Rāghava.
कृतप्रसादास्तेनैवं राघवेण महात्मना । जग्मुः स्वं स्वं गृहं सर्वे देही देहमिव त्यजन् ।। ७.४०.
Having received favor from the great-souled Rāghava, they all returned to their own homes, as embodied beings relinquishing their bodies.
ततस्तु ते राक्षसऋक्षवानराः प्रणम्य रामं रघुवंशवर्धनम् । वियोगजाश्रुप्रतिपूर्णलोचनाः प्रतिप्रयातास्तु यथा निवासिनः ।। ७.४०.
Then those Rākṣasas, bears, and monkeys, having bowed to Rāma, the enhancer of the Raghu lineage, departed to their dwellings, their eyes overflowing with tears of separation.
इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीये आदिकाव्ये श्रीमदुत्तरकाण्डे चत्वारिंशः सर्गः
Thus ends the fortieth sarga of the glorious Uttarakāṇḍa in the venerable Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, the ancient epic.
विसृज्य च महाबाहुर्ऋक्षवानरराक्षसान् । भ्रातृभिः सहितो रामः प्रमुमोद सुखं सुखी ।। ७.४१.
Having dismissed the bears, monkeys, and Rākṣasas, Rāma, together with his brothers, rejoiced in happiness.
अथापराह्णसमये भ्रातृभिः सह राघवः । शुश्राव मधुरां वाणीमन्तरिक्षात् प्रभाषिताम् ।। ७.४१.
Then, in the afternoon, Rāghava, accompanied by his brothers, heard a sweet voice speaking from the sky.
सौम्य राम निरीक्षस्व सौम्येन वदनेन माम् । कुबेरभवनात्प्राप्तं विद्धि मां पुष्पकं प्रभो ।। ७.४१.
Gentle Rāma, look upon me with your gracious face; know me to be Puṣpaka, arrived from Kubera's abode, O Lord.
तव शासनमाज्ञाय गतो ऽस्मि भवनं प्रति । उपस्थातुं नरश्रेष्ठ स च मां प्रत्यभाषत ।। ७.४१.
Obeying your command, I have gone to the palace; O best of men, he addressed me to present myself to you.
निर्जितस्त्वं नरेन्द्रेण राघवेण महात्मना । निहत्य युधि दुर्धर्षं रावणं राक्षसेश्वरम् ।। ७.४१.
You have been conquered by the noble Rāghava, king of men, who slew the formidable Rāvaṇa, lord of the Rākṣasas, in battle.
ममापि परमा प्रीतर्हते तस्मिन्दुरात्मनि । रावणे सगणे चैव सपुत्रे सहबान्धवे ।। ७.४१.
I too felt the highest joy when that wicked Rāvaṇa, along with his followers, sons, and kin, was destroyed.
स त्वं रामेण लङ्कायां निर्जितः परमात्मना । वह सौम्य तमेव त्वमहमाज्ञापयामि ते ।। ७.४१.
Thus, you were vanquished in Laṅkā by Rāma, the supreme soul; now, gentle one, I command you to serve him.
परमो ह्येष मे कामो यत्त्वं राघवनन्दनम् । वहेर्लोकस्य संयानं गच्छस्व विगतज्वरः ।। ७.४१.
This is my greatest desire: that you, O delight of the Raghus, carry the journeys of the world; go forth without anxiety.
सो ऽहं शासनमाज्ञाय धनदस्य महात्मनः । त्वत्सकाशमनुप्राप्तो निर्विशङ्कः प्रतीक्ष माम् ।। ७.४१.
Thus, obeying the command of the great-souled Lord of Wealth, I have come to you without fear; await me.
अदृष्यः सर्वभूतानां सर्वेषां धनदाज्ञया । चराम्यहं प्रभावेण तवाज्ञां परिपालयन् ।। ७.४१.
Invisible to all beings by the command of the Lord of Wealth, I move by his power, ever fulfilling your command.
एवमुक्तस्तदा रामः पुष्पकेण महाबलः । उवाच पुष्पकं दृष्ट्वा विमानं पुनरागतम् ।। ७.४१.
Thus addressed, mighty Rāma then, seeing the Puṣpaka chariot returned, spoke to it.
यद्येवं स्वागतं ते ऽस्तु विमानवर पुष्पक । आनुकूल्याद्धनेशस्य वृत्तदोषो न नो भवेत् ।। ७.४१.
If this is so, then welcome to you, Puṣpaka, best of aerial cars; may there be no fault in our conduct due to Kubera’s favor.
लाजैश्चैव तथा पुष्पैर्धूपैश्चैव सुगन्धिभिः । पूजयित्वा महाबाहू राघवः पुष्पकं तदा ।। ७.४१.
Then Rāghava, strong-armed, worshipped Puṣpaka with offerings of parched grain, flowers, and fragrant incense.
गम्यतामिति चोवाच आगच्छ त्वं स्मरे यदा । सिद्धानां च गतौ सौम्य मा विषादेन योजय । प्रतिघातश्च ते मा भूद्यथेष्टं गच्छतो दिशः ।। ७.४१.
He said, 'Go as you wish, and come when remembered; O gentle one, do not be troubled when carrying the Siddhas, and may you meet no hindrance as you travel the directions as you desire.'
एवमस्त्विति रामेण पूजयित्वा विसर्जितम् । अभिप्रेतां दिशं तस्मात्प्रायात्तत्पुष्पकं तदा ।। ७.४१.
Thus honored and dismissed by Rāma, the Puṣpaka then departed toward its intended direction.
एवमन्तर्हिते तस्मिन्पुष्पके सुकृतात्मनि । भरतः प्राञ्जलिर्वाक्यमुवाच रघुनन्दनम् ।। ७.४१.
When that virtuous Puṣpaka had vanished, Bharata, with joined palms, spoke to Rāghava.
विविधात्मनि दृश्यन्ते त्वयि वीर प्रशासति । अमानुषाणां सत्त्वानां व्याहृतानि मुहुर्मुहुः ।। ७.४१.
O hero, under your rule, many wondrous things are seen; the voices of superhuman beings are heard again and again.
अनामयश्च सत्वानां साग्रो मासो गतो ह्ययम् । जीर्णानामपि सत्त्वानां मृत्युर्नायाति राघव ।। ७.४१.
A month with its full moon has passed, and among beings there is no illness; even for the aged, O Rāghava, death does not come.
अरोगप्रसवा नार्यो वपुष्मन्तो हि मानवाः । हर्षश्चाभ्यधिको राजञ्जनस्य पुरवासिनः ।। ७.४१.
Women give birth without sickness, men are strong in form, and joy among the city’s people is greatly increased, O king.
काले वर्षति पर्जन्यः पातयन्नमृतं पयः । वाताश्चापि प्रवान्त्येते स्पर्शयुक्ताः सुखाः शिवाः ।। ७.४१.
The timely rain falls from the clouds, pouring nectar-like water, and the winds blow gently, pleasant and auspicious to the touch.
ईदृशो ऽनश्वरो राजा भवेदिति नरेश्वरः । कथयन्ति पुरे राजन्पौरजानपदास्तथा ।। ७.४१.
O king, thus do the people of city and country say: 'May such an undying ruler always reign.'
एता वाचः सुमधुरा भरतेन समीरिताः । श्रुत्वा रामो मुदा युक्तो बभूव नृपसत्तमः ।। ७.४१.
Hearing these sweet and pleasing words spoken by Bharata, Rāma, best of kings, was filled with joy.
इत्यार्षे श्रीमद्रामायणे वाल्मीकीये आदिकाव्ये श्रीमदुत्तरकाण्डे एकचत्वारिंशः सर्गः
Thus ends the forty-first sarga in the glorious Uttarakāṇḍa of the ancient and noble Rāmāyaṇa composed by Vālmīki.
