Then, with that very gateway, the Yaksha was struck by him; at that moment, the Yaksha was not seen, his body having been reduced to ashes.
Then, seeing the might of the Rakshasa, all of them fled; terrified, they entered rivers and caves, exhausted, abandoning their weapons, their faces drained of color.
Then the Lord of Wealth, seeing those terrified Yaksha chiefs by the thousands, spoke to the great Yaksha Manicara.
O Lord of Yakshas, slay Ravana, the wicked one of evil mind; be the refuge of the heroic Yakshas skilled in battle.
Thus addressed, the mighty-armed, unconquerable Manibhadra, surrounded by thousands of Yakshas, challenged him with four others.
Then, the Yakshas attacked the Rakshasas, striking with maces, clubs, spears, lances, and iron rods.
Waging a tumultuous battle, moving swiftly like hawks, they pressed hard, shouting, 'I do not wish to give ground—let it be given!'
Then the gods, along with the Gandharvas and the sages versed in Brahman, seeing that tumultuous battle, were filled with utmost wonder.
In that battle, a thousand Yakshas were slain by Prahasta, and another thousand, blameless, were killed by Mahodara.
Then, O King, in his wrath and eagerness to fight, Marica struck down two thousand in the blink of an eye.
Where is the straightforward combat of the Yakshas, and where is the reliance on magical power of the Rakshasas, O tiger among men? By that, they were superior in battle.
Manibhadra, in the great battle, confronted Dhumraksha; struck in the chest with a mace out of anger, he did not waver.
Then, as Manibhadra swung his mace, the Rakshasa Dhumraksha was struck on the head and, reeling, fell down.
Seeing Dhumraksha struck down, fallen and drenched in blood, the ten-headed one rushed at Manibhadra in battle.
As the enraged ten-headed one charged at him, Manibhadra, foremost among Yakshas, struck him with three spears.
Struck in battle, he struck Manibhadra's crown; by that blow, the crown was knocked to the side.
Though struck while fighting, he stood firm and did not waver; from that time, that Yaksha has been known as 'Side-crowned.' A great tumult arose on that mountain, O King.
Then, from a distance, the lord of wealth, wielder of the mace, was seen, adorned with the emblems of the lotus and conch, and accompanied by Śukra and Prauṣṭhapada.
Seeing his brother in battle, his dignity lost due to a curse, the wise one spoke words fitting for the lineage of the grandsire.
Though I tried to restrain you, you did not understand, O misguided one; later, after experiencing the result of this, you will know, having gone to ruin.
He who, out of delusion, drinks poison and does not realize it, that foolish person only understands the result of his action at the end, when the outcome appears.
The gods do not favor anyone who, though joined with righteousness, falls into such a state as you have, without awareness.
Whoever disrespects mother, father, or teacher, that person, after death, comes under the power of the lord of the departed and sees the result of his actions.
He who, in this unstable body, does not perform austerity, that deluded one, after death, regrets when he sees his own fate.
From righteousness come sovereignty, wealth, and happiness; from unrighteousness, only suffering. Therefore, for the sake of happiness, one should practice righteousness and abandon sin.
The fruit of sin is indeed suffering, which must be endured by oneself here; therefore, only a fool would commit sin, which leads to self-destruction.
No one, O misguided one, develops understanding merely by his own will; everything is moved by the divine, and one struck down is destroyed by fate. According to the actions one performs, so is the result one enjoys.
Men in this world obtain intelligence, offspring, wealth, and courage as the result of virtuous deeds they have conquered.
Thus, with such a mind, you are bound for hell; I will not speak further with you, for judgment is certain for those of evil conduct.
Thus addressed by him, all his ministers, led by Mārīca, were struck with fear and, turning away, fled in all directions.
