तेषां नो विप्रकृष्टानां विन्ध्ये पर्वतसत्तमे। भृशं शोकाभितप्तानां महान् कालोऽत्यवर्तत

कौशेयवस्त्रां मलिनां निरानन्दां दृढव्रताम्। तया समेत्य विधिवत् पृष्ट्वा सर्वमनिन्दिताम्
Clad in silk garments, soiled, joyless, steadfast in vow; having met her properly, I questioned her fully, blameless in every way.
अभिज्ञानं मया दत्तं रामनामाङ्गुलीयकम्। अभिज्ञानं मणिं लब्ध्वा चरितार्थोऽहमागतः
I gave her the token, Rama's signet ring; having received the token jewel, my purpose accomplished, I returned.
मया च पुनरागम्य रामस्याक्लिष्टकर्मणः। अभिज्ञानं मया दत्तमर्चिष्मान् स महामणिः
And having returned again, I gave the token, the radiant great jewel, to Rama, whose deeds are unblemished.
श्रुत्वा तां मैथिलीं रामस्त्वाशशंसे च जीवितम्। जीवितान्तमनुप्राप्तः पीत्वामृतमिवातुरः
Hearing the words of Maithilī, Rāma regained hope for life, as a sick man, having drunk nectar, returns from the brink of death.
उद्योजयिष्यन्नुद्योगं दध्रे लङ्कावधे मनः। जिघांसुरिव लोकान्ते सर्वाँल्लोकान् विभावसुः
Resolved to undertake the campaign, he set his mind on the destruction of Laṅkā, like Fire at the end of the world intent on consuming all beings.
ततः समुद्रमासाद्य नलं सेतुमकारयत्। अतरत् कपिवीराणां वाहिनी तेन सेतुना
Then, reaching the ocean, Nala built a bridge; by that bridge, the army of heroic monkeys crossed over.
प्रहस्तमवधीन्नीलः कुम्भकर्णं तु राघवः। लक्ष्मणो रावणसुतं स्वयं रामस्तु रावणम्
Nīla slew Prahasta; Rāghava killed Kumbhakarṇa; Lakṣmaṇa killed Rāvaṇa's son; and Rāma himself slew Rāvaṇa.
स शक्रेण समागम्य यमेन वरुणेन च। महेश्वरस्वयंभूभ्यां तथा दशरथेन च
He met with Indra, Yama, Varuṇa, Mahādeva, Brahmā, and also with Daśaratha.
तैश्च दत्तवरः श्रीमानृषिभिश्च समागतैः। सुरर्षिभिश्च काकुत्स्थो वराँल्लेभे परंतपः
Granted boons by them and by assembled sages and divine seers, the illustrious Kakutstha, scorcher of foes, received blessings.
स तु दत्तवरः प्रीत्या वानरैश्च समागतैः। पुष्पकेण विमानेन किष्किन्धामभ्युपागमत्
Thus blessed, and joined by the delighted monkeys, he returned to Kiṣkindhā in the aerial chariot Puṣpaka.
तां गङ्गां पुनरासाद्य वसन्तं मुनिसंनिधौ। अविघ्नं पुष्ययोगेन श्वो रामं द्रष्टुमर्हसि
Again reaching the Gaṅgā, dwelling among sages, you are worthy to see Rāma tomorrow, under an auspicious Puṣya constellation, without hindrance.
ततः स वाक्यैर्मधुरैर्हनूमतो निशम्य हृष्टो भरतः कृताञ्जलिः। उवाच वाणीं मनसः प्रहर्षिणीं चिरस्य पूर्णः खलु मे मनोरथः
Then, hearing Hanūmān's sweet words, Bharata, delighted, with joined palms, spoke words of great joy: 'At last, my heart's desire is truly fulfilled.'

Hearing this supreme joy, Bharata, steadfast in truth and valor, gladly commanded Śatrughna, destroyer of foes.
दैवतानि च सर्वाणि चैत्यानि नगरस्य च। सुगन्धमाल्यैर्वादित्रैरर्चन्तु शुचयो नराः
Let all the gods, all the city shrines, be worshipped by pure men with fragrant garlands and music.
सूताः स्तुतिपुराणज्ञाः सर्वे वैतालिकास्तथा। सर्वे वादित्रकुशला गणिकाश्चैव सर्वशः
Let all bards skilled in praise and ancient lore, all minstrels, all musicians, and all courtesans, assemble in full.
राजदारास्तथामात्याः सैन्याः सेनाङ्गनागणाः। ब्राह्मणाश्च सराजन्याः श्रेणीमुख्यास्तथा गणाः
Let the royal wives, ministers, soldiers, women of the army, brāhmaṇas, kṣatriyas, guild leaders, and all groups go forth.
अभिनिर्यान्तु रामस्य द्रष्टुं शशिनिभं मुखम्। भरतस्य वचः श्रुत्वा शत्रुघ्नः परवीरहा
Let them go out to see Rāma's face, radiant like the moon; hearing Bharata's command, Śatrughna, destroyer of foes, acted.
विष्टीरनेकसाहस्रीश्चोदयामास भागशः। समीकुरुत निम्नानि विषमाणि समानि च
He dispatched thousands of workers in groups, to level the uneven and low places, making all smooth.
स्थानानि च निरस्यन्तां नन्दिग्रामादितः परम्। सिञ्चन्तु पृथिवीं कृत्स्नां हिमशीतेन वारिणा
Let all obstacles be removed from Nandigrāma onward; let the whole earth be sprinkled with cool, icy water.
ततोऽभ्यवकिरन्त्वन्ये लाजैः पुष्पैश्च सर्वतः। समुच्छ्रितपताकास्तु रथ्याः पुरवरोत्तमे
Then let others scatter parched grain and flowers everywhere; let the main streets of the great city be adorned with raised banners.
शोभयन्तु च वेश्मानि सूर्यस्योदयनं प्रति। स्रग्दाममुक्तपुष्पैश्च सुवर्णैः पञ्चवर्णकैः
Let the houses be adorned, facing the rising of the sun, with garlands, strings of pearls, flowers, and golden ornaments of five colors.
राजमार्गमसम्बाधं किरन्तु शतशो नराः। ततस्तच्छासनं श्रुत्वा शत्रुघ्नस्य मुदान्विताः
Let hundreds of men scatter the royal road, making it spacious; then, having heard that command of Shatrughna, they rejoiced.
धृष्टिर्जयन्तो विजयः सिद्धार्थश्चार्थसाधकः। अशोको मन्त्रपालश्च सुमन्त्रश्चापि निर्ययुः
Dhṛṣṭi, Jayanta, Vijaya, Siddhārtha, Arthasādhaka, Ashoka, Mantrapāla, and Sumantra set out.
मत्तैर्नागसहस्रैश्च सध्वजैः सुविभूषितैः। अपरे हेमकक्षाभिः सगजाभिः करेणुभिः
With thousands of intoxicated elephants, adorned with banners and splendid ornaments, others with golden girdles, along with female elephants and tuskers, set forth.
निर्ययुस्तुरगाक्रान्ता रथैश्च सुमहारथाः। शक्त्यृष्टिपाशहस्तानां सध्वजानां पताकिनाम्
Great charioteers departed, mounted on horses and chariots, bearing spears, javelins, nooses, and banners, with standards flying.
