एवमुक्तो महेन्द्रेण प्रसन्नेन महात्मना। सुप्रसन्नमना हृष्टो वचनं प्राह राघवः
Thus addressed by the gracious, great-souled Mahendra, Rāghava, his mind greatly pleased, joyfully spoke these words.
यदि प्रीतिः समुत्पन्ना मयि ते विबुधेश्वर। वक्ष्यामि कुरु मे सत्यं वचनं वदतां वर
If you have indeed found joy in me, O lord of the gods, I will speak—grant me this, O best of those who keep their word.
मम हेतोः पराक्रान्ता ये गता यमसादनम्। ते सर्वे जीवितं प्राप्य समुत्तिष्ठन्तु वानराः
For my sake, let all those valiant ones who have gone to the abode of Yama regain their lives and rise again, O monkeys.
मत्कृते विप्रयुक्ता ये पुत्रैर्दारैश्च वानराः। तान् प्रीतमनसः सर्वान् द्रष्टुमिच्छामि मानद
Those monkeys who, because of me, were separated from their sons and wives—I wish to see them all, joyful at heart, O bestower of honor.
विक्रान्ताश्चापि शूराश्च न मृत्युं गणयन्ति च। कृतयत्ना विपन्नाश्च जीवयैतान् पुरंदर
Those who were valiant and heroic, who did not heed death, who strove and fell—O Purandara, revive them.
मत्प्रियेष्वभिरक्ताश्च न मृत्युं गणयन्ति ये। त्वत्प्रसादात् समेयुस्ते वरमेतमहं वृणे
Those who are devoted to my beloved ones do not regard death; by your grace, let them be restored—this is the boon I choose.
नीरुजो निर्व्रणांश्चैव सम्पन्नबलपौरुषान्। गोलाङ्गूलांस्तथर्क्षांश्च द्रष्टुमिच्छामि मानद
I wish to see the monkeys and bears, healthy, uninjured, endowed with strength and valor, O giver of honor.
अकाले चापि पुष्पाणि मूलानि च फलानि च। नद्यश्च विमलास्तत्र तिष्ठेयुर्यत्र वानराः
Let flowers, roots, and fruits appear out of season, and let pure rivers flow wherever the monkeys dwell.
श्रुत्वा तु वचनं तस्य राघवस्य महात्मनः। महेन्द्रः प्रत्युवाचेदं वचनं प्रीतिसंयुतम्
Hearing the words of the great-souled Rāghava, Mahendra replied with words filled with affection.
महानयं वरस्तात यस्त्वयोक्तो रघूत्तम। द्विर्मया नोक्तपूर्वं च तस्मादेतद् भविष्यति
O best of the Raghu lineage, this boon you have requested is great; I have never granted such a thing twice before, therefore it shall be so.
समुत्तिष्ठन्तु ते सर्वे हता ये युधि राक्षसैः। ऋक्षाश्च सह गोपुच्छैर्निकृत्ताननबाहवः
Let all those who were slain in battle by the rākṣasas rise up, including the bears and monkeys whose faces and arms were severed.
नीरुजो निर्व्रणाश्चैव सम्पन्नबलपौरुषाः। समुत्थास्यन्ति हरयः सुप्ता निद्राक्षये यथा
The monkeys will rise, healthy, uninjured, endowed with strength and valor, as if waking from sleep.
सुहृद्भिर्बान्धवैश्चैव ज्ञातिभिः स्वजनेन च। सर्व एव समेष्यन्ति संयुक्ताः परया मुदा
They will all be reunited with their friends, relatives, kinsmen, and loved ones, joined together in supreme joy.
अकाले पुष्पशबलाः फलवन्तश्च पादपाः। भविष्यन्ति महेष्वास नद्यश्च सलिलायुताः
O mighty archer, the trees will bear flowers and fruits out of season, and the rivers will be filled with water.
सव्रणैः प्रथमं गात्रैरिदानीं निर्व्रणैः समैः। ततः समुत्थिताः सर्वे सुप्त्वेव हरिसत्तमाः
First, with bodies bearing wounds, now with bodies free from wounds, all the foremost monkeys rose as if from sleep.
बभूवुर्वानराः सर्वे किं त्वेतदिति विस्मिताः। काकुत्स्थं परिपूर्णार्थं दृष्ट्वा सर्वे सुरोत्तमाः
All the monkeys became astonished, wondering what had happened, seeing Kākutstha with his purpose fulfilled, along with all the excellent gods.
अब्रुवन् परमप्रीताः स्तुत्वा रामं सलक्ष्मणम्। गच्छायोध्यामितो राजन् विसर्जय च वानरान्
Filled with supreme delight, after praising Rāma and Lakṣmaṇa, they said: 'O king, go now to Ayodhyā and dismiss the monkeys.'
मैथिलीं सान्त्वयस्वैनामनुरक्तां यशस्विनीम्। भ्रातरं भरतं पश्य त्वच्छोकाद् व्रतचारिणम्
Console Maithilī, your devoted and renowned wife; see your brother Bharata, who observes vows out of grief for you.
शत्रुघ्नं च महात्मानं मातॄः सर्वाः परंतप। अभिषेचय चात्मानं पौरान् गत्वा प्रहर्षय
See Śatrughna, the great-souled one, and all your mothers, O subduer of foes; anoint yourself and gladden the citizens upon your return.
एवमुक्त्वा सहस्राक्षो रामं सौमित्रिणा सह। विमानैः सूर्यसंकाशैर्ययौ हृष्टः सुरैः सह
Having spoken thus, the thousand-eyed one, together with Rāma and Saumitri, departed joyfully with the gods in chariots shining like the sun.
अभिवाद्य च काकुत्स्थः सर्वांस्तांस्त्रिदशोत्तमान्। लक्ष्मणेन सह भ्रात्रा वासमाज्ञापयत् तदा
Then Kākutstha, together with his brother Lakṣmaṇa, greeted all those foremost gods and gave orders for their lodging.
ततस्तु सा लक्ष्मणरामपालिता महाचमूर्हृष्टजना यशस्विनी। श्रिया ज्वलन्ती विरराज सर्वतो निशा प्रणीतेव हि शीतरश्मिना
Then, guarded by Lakṣmaṇa and Rāma, that glorious army, filled with joyful people, shone everywhere, radiant with splendor, like the night illuminated by the cool rays of the moon.

Let the one hundred and twenty-first sarga be heard in the glorious Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, in the Yuddha Kāṇḍa.
तां रात्रिमुषितं रामं सुखोदितमरिंदमम्। अब्रवीत् प्राञ्जलिर्वाक्यं जयं पृष्ट्वा विभीषणः
After that night had passed, Vibhishana, with joined palms, spoke to Rama, the destroyer of enemies, who had awakened happily, first offering him victory.
स्नानानि चाङ्गरागाणि वस्त्राण्याभरणानि च। चन्दनानि च माल्यानि दिव्यानि विविधानि च
Baths, unguents for the body, garments, ornaments, sandalwood paste, and various divine garlands are prepared.
अलंकारविदश्चैता नार्यः पद्मनिभेक्षणाः। उपस्थितास्त्वां विधिवत् स्नापयिष्यन्ति राघव
These women, skilled in adornment and with lotus-like eyes, are present and will bathe you properly, O Raghava.
एवमुक्तस्तु काकुत्स्थः प्रत्युवाच विभीषणम्। हरीन् सुग्रीवमुख्यांस्त्वं स्नानेनोपनिमन्त्रय
Thus addressed, Kakutstha replied to Vibhishana: Invite Sugriva and the foremost of the monkeys to bathe as well.
स तु ताम्यति धर्मात्मा मम हेतोः सुखोचितः। सुकुमारो महाबाहुर्भरतः सत्यसंश्रयः
But my righteous and tender brother Bharata, accustomed to comfort, is suffering on my account; he is mighty-armed and devoted to truth.
तं विना कैकयीपुत्रं भरतं धर्मचारिणम्। न मे स्नानं बहु मतं वस्त्राण्याभरणानि च
Without Bharata, son of Kaikeyi, who follows righteousness, I do not value bathing, nor garments or ornaments.
एतत् पश्य यथा क्षिप्रं प्रतिगच्छाम तां पुरीम्। अयोध्यां गच्छतो ह्येष पन्थाः परमदुर्गमः
See to it that we quickly return to that city; for the road to Ayodhya is extremely difficult for one who travels.
