निवृत्तवनवासोऽसि प्रतिज्ञा पूरिता त्वया। रावणं च रणे हत्वा देवताः परितोषिताः
You have completed your forest exile, fulfilled your vow, and, having slain Ravana in battle, satisfied the gods.
कृतं कर्म यशः श्लाघ्यं प्राप्तं ते शत्रुसूदन। भ्रातृभिः सह राज्यस्थो दीर्घमायुरवाप्नुहि
The deed is accomplished, the fame is praiseworthy, and you have attained it, destroyer of enemies; may you, together with your brothers, enjoy a long life as ruler.
इति ब्रुवाणं राजानं रामः प्राञ्जलिरब्रवीत्। कुरु प्रसादं धर्मज्ञ कैकय्या भरतस्य च
As the king spoke thus, Rama, with joined palms, said: Grant your favor, O knower of dharma, to Kaikeyi and to Bharata.
सपुत्रां त्वां त्यजामीति यदुक्ता कैकयी त्वया। स शापः कैकयीं घोरः सपुत्रां न स्पृशेत् प्रभो
That curse, O lord, which you pronounced upon Kaikeyi, saying 'I renounce you and your son,' may it not touch Kaikeyi and her son.
तथेति स महाराजो राममुक्त्वा कृताञ्जलिम्। लक्ष्मणं च परिष्वज्य पुनर्वाक्यमुवाच ह
The great king, saying 'So be it,' released Rama, who had joined his palms, embraced Lakshmana, and again spoke.
रामं शुश्रूषता भक्त्या वैदेह्या सह सीतया। कृता मम महाप्रीतिः प्राप्तं धर्मफलं च ते
By serving Rama with devotion, together with Sita, you have given me great joy, and you have attained the fruit of dharma.
धर्मं प्राप्स्यसि धर्मज्ञ यशश्च विपुलं भुवि। रामे प्रसन्ने स्वर्गं च महिमानं तथोत्तमम्
You will attain dharma, O knower of dharma, and great fame on earth; with Rama pleased, you will also gain heaven and supreme glory.
रामं शुश्रूष भद्रं ते सुमित्रानन्दवर्धन। रामः सर्वस्य लोकस्य हितेष्वभिरतः सदा
Serve Rāma, may good fortune be yours, O increaser of Sumitrā's joy; Rāma is always devoted to the welfare of all the world.
एते सेन्द्रास्त्रयो लोकाः सिद्धाश्च परमर्षयः। अभिवाद्य महात्मानमर्चन्ति पुरुषोत्तमम्
These three worlds, along with Indra, the perfected beings, and the supreme sages, bow to the great-souled one and honor the best of men.
एतत् तदुक्तमव्यक्तमक्षरं ब्रह्मसम्मितम्। देवानां हृदयं सौम्य गुह्यं रामः परंतपः
This, indeed, is that unmanifest, imperishable, Brahman-sanctioned teaching—the heart of the gods, O gentle one, the supreme secret, which Rāma, the subduer of foes, possesses.
अवाप्तधर्माचरणं यशश्च विपुलं त्वया। एवं शुश्रूषताव्यग्रं वैदेह्या सह सीतया
Through your attentive service, together with Sītā, you have attained the practice of righteousness and great fame.
इत्युक्त्वा लक्ष्मणं राजा स्नुषां बद्धाञ्जलिं स्थिताम्। पुत्रीत्याभाष्य मधुरं शनैरेनामुवाच ह
Having spoken thus to Lakṣmaṇa, the king addressed his daughter-in-law, who stood with joined palms, and, calling her 'daughter,' spoke to her gently and sweetly.
कर्तव्यो न तु वैदेहि मन्युस्त्यागमिमं प्रति। रामेणेदं विशुद्ध्यर्थं कृतं वै त्वद्धितैषिणा
You must not, O Vaidehī, feel anger regarding this abandonment; Rāma did this for the sake of your purity, out of concern for your welfare.
सुदुष्करमिदं पुत्रि तव चारित्रलक्षणम्। कृतं यत् तेऽन्यनारीणां यशो ह्यभिभविष्यति
This, my daughter, is exceedingly difficult—your conduct has set a standard; what you have done will surpass the fame of other women.
न त्वं कामं समाधेया भर्तृशुश्रूषणं प्रति। अवश्यं तु मया वाच्यमेष ते दैवतं परम्
You are not, indeed, to be instructed regarding service to your husband; yet I must say this, for he is your highest divinity.
इति प्रतिसमादिश्य पुत्रौ सीतां च राघवः। इन्द्रलोकं विमानेन ययौ दशरथो नृपः
Thus instructing his sons and Sītā, Rāghava Daśaratha ascended to Indra's world in a celestial chariot.
विमानमास्थाय महानुभावः श्रिया च संहृष्टतनुर्नृपोत्तमः। आमन्त्र्य पुत्रौ सह सीतया च जगाम देवप्रवरस्य लोकम्
Mounting the chariot, the great-souled, illustrious king, after bidding farewell to his sons and Sītā, went to the realm of the foremost of the gods.

Hear now the one hundred and twentieth sarga in the glorious Vālmīki Rāmāyaṇa, in the Yuddha Kāṇḍa.
प्रतिप्रयाते काकुत्स्थे महेन्द्रः पाकशासनः। अब्रवीत् परमप्रीतो राघवं प्राञ्जलिं स्थितम्
When the descendant of Kakutstha had departed, Mahendra, the subduer of Pāka, spoke with great delight to Rāghava, who stood with joined palms.
अमोघं दर्शनं राम तवास्माकं नरर्षभ। प्रीतियुक्ताः स्म तेन त्वं ब्रूहि यन्मनसेप्सितम्
O best of men, the sight of you is unfailing for us; we are filled with joy because of it. Therefore, tell me what your heart desires.
एवमुक्तो महेन्द्रेण प्रसन्नेन महात्मना। सुप्रसन्नमना हृष्टो वचनं प्राह राघवः
Thus addressed by the gracious, great-souled Mahendra, Rāghava, his mind greatly pleased, joyfully spoke these words.
यदि प्रीतिः समुत्पन्ना मयि ते विबुधेश्वर। वक्ष्यामि कुरु मे सत्यं वचनं वदतां वर
If you have indeed found joy in me, O lord of the gods, I will speak—grant me this, O best of those who keep their word.
मम हेतोः पराक्रान्ता ये गता यमसादनम्। ते सर्वे जीवितं प्राप्य समुत्तिष्ठन्तु वानराः
For my sake, let all those valiant ones who have gone to the abode of Yama regain their lives and rise again, O monkeys.
मत्कृते विप्रयुक्ता ये पुत्रैर्दारैश्च वानराः। तान् प्रीतमनसः सर्वान् द्रष्टुमिच्छामि मानद
Those monkeys who, because of me, were separated from their sons and wives—I wish to see them all, joyful at heart, O bestower of honor.
विक्रान्ताश्चापि शूराश्च न मृत्युं गणयन्ति च। कृतयत्ना विपन्नाश्च जीवयैतान् पुरंदर
Those who were valiant and heroic, who did not heed death, who strove and fell—O Purandara, revive them.
मत्प्रियेष्वभिरक्ताश्च न मृत्युं गणयन्ति ये। त्वत्प्रसादात् समेयुस्ते वरमेतमहं वृणे
Those who are devoted to my beloved ones do not regard death; by your grace, let them be restored—this is the boon I choose.
नीरुजो निर्व्रणांश्चैव सम्पन्नबलपौरुषान्। गोलाङ्गूलांस्तथर्क्षांश्च द्रष्टुमिच्छामि मानद
I wish to see the monkeys and bears, healthy, uninjured, endowed with strength and valor, O giver of honor.
अकाले चापि पुष्पाणि मूलानि च फलानि च। नद्यश्च विमलास्तत्र तिष्ठेयुर्यत्र वानराः
Let flowers, roots, and fruits appear out of season, and let pure rivers flow wherever the monkeys dwell.
श्रुत्वा तु वचनं तस्य राघवस्य महात्मनः। महेन्द्रः प्रत्युवाचेदं वचनं प्रीतिसंयुतम्
Hearing the words of the great-souled Rāghava, Mahendra replied with words filled with affection.
महानयं वरस्तात यस्त्वयोक्तो रघूत्तम। द्विर्मया नोक्तपूर्वं च तस्मादेतद् भविष्यति
O best of the Raghu lineage, this boon you have requested is great; I have never granted such a thing twice before, therefore it shall be so.
