Even this wide-eyed lady, protected by her own virtue, Rāvaṇa could not cross, just as the mighty ocean cannot overstep its shore.
But, relying on truth, for the assurance of the three worlds, I permitted Vaidehī to enter the fire.
For the wicked-hearted one could not, even in thought, violate Maithilī, who is unattainable, like a blazing tongue of fire.
She does not deserve any weakness, having remained in Rāvaṇa’s inner chambers; for Sītā is devoted to me alone, as the radiance is to the sun.
Maithilī, the daughter of Janaka, is pure in all three worlds; she cannot be abandoned by me, just as a man of honor cannot abandon his fame.
And I must certainly act according to the words that are beneficial to all of you, the affectionate lords of the people, who speak thus for my good.
Having spoken thus, the victorious and mighty Rāma, praised for his own deeds, joined with his beloved, the illustrious one, Rāghava, enjoyed the happiness he deserved.

Hearing these auspicious words spoken by Rāghava, the great lord then uttered even more auspicious words.
O lotus-eyed, mighty-armed, broad-chested subduer of foes, by good fortune this deed has been accomplished by you, best of the righteous.
By good fortune, the great and terrible darkness has been dispelled for all the world; and, Rāma, the fear born of Rāvaṇa has been removed by you in battle.
Comfort Bharata, who is afflicted, and the illustrious Kausalyā, and having seen Kaikeyī and Sumitrā, the mother of Lakṣmaṇa,
Having attained the kingdom in Ayodhyā and delighted your friends, O mighty one, establish the lineage of the Ikṣvāku dynasty.
Having performed the horse sacrifice and attained supreme fame, and having given wealth to the Brāhmaṇas, you are worthy to ascend to heaven.
Here is King Daśaratha, your father, dwelling in a celestial chariot, O descendant of Kakutstha, your illustrious teacher among men.

Hearing the words of Mahādeva, Rāghava, together with Lakṣmaṇa, bowed to his father, who stood atop the celestial chariot.
He saw his father, radiant with his own splendor, free from stain, clothed in celestial garments, together with his brother Lakṣmaṇa.
The king, standing in the celestial chariot, was filled with great joy upon seeing his son, dearer to him than life itself.
The mighty-armed lord, seated upon a splendid seat, placed him on his lap, embraced him with his arms, and then spoke these words.
Heaven holds little value for me, nor does the honor from the foremost of gods, if I am deprived of you, Rama; I declare this truth to you.
Today, seeing you with your enemies defeated, my heart is fulfilled; having completed your forest exile, a supreme joy has arisen in me.
O best among speakers, the words spoken by Kaikeyi for your banishment remain fixed in my heart.
Now, seeing you safe and embracing you together with Lakshmana, I am freed from sorrow, like the sun emerging from mist.
I have been rescued by you, my son, a noble and virtuous child, just as the righteous Brahmin Kahola was saved by Ashtavakra.

Those men are truly fulfilled, Rama, who will see you enter the city, crowned in the kingdom, lord of the earth.
I wish to see you united with Bharata, who is devoted, strong, pure, and righteous.
Fourteen years, gentle one, have been spent by you in the forest, dwelling with Sita, Lakshmana, and for my sake.
