Bring them for the revival of the heroic Lakṣmaṇa. Thus addressed, Hanumān went to the mountain of herbs, but, though illustrious, he could not recognize those great herbs.
Then a thought arose in the mind of Hanumān, the son of the wind, of immeasurable energy: 'I will take this very peak of the mountain.'
'By inference, I understand that the beneficial herb grows on this peak, for Suṣeṇa has spoken thus.'
'If I go without taking the Viśalyakaraṇī, there would be harm from delay and great distress.'
Thinking thus, Hanumān, of great strength, quickly went, reached the best of mountains, and shook the summit three times.
The mighty one, having uprooted the blossoming groups of various trees, seized the peak with both hands and balanced it.
Hanumān, having taken the mountain peak, leapt up from the sky like a dark blue raincloud filled with water.
Arriving with great speed and setting down the mountain peak, Hanumān rested a little and then spoke to Suṣeṇa.
'O best of monkeys, I do not recognize those herbs; therefore, I have brought this entire peak of the mountain.'
As he was saying this, Suṣeṇa, the foremost of monkeys, praised the son of the wind and, uprooting the herbs, took them.
All the foremost monkeys were amazed, seeing Hanumān's deed, which was extremely difficult even for the gods.
Then Suṣeṇa, the most radiant among monkeys, after crushing the herb, placed it near Lakṣmaṇa.
Lakṣmaṇa, still pierced by arrows, inhaled it and, freed from wounds and pain, quickly rose from the ground.
Seeing Lakṣmaṇa rise from the earth, the monkeys, delighted, joyfully praised him, exclaiming, 'Well done! Well done!'
Rāma, destroyer of enemies, said, 'Come, come!' to Lakṣmaṇa, embraced him tightly, his eyes filled with tears.
Then Rāghava, embracing Saumitri, said: 'By good fortune, O hero, I see you returned from death.'
For neither life, nor Sītā, nor victory has any meaning for me; what purpose does life serve me when you have departed?
As that great-souled Rāghava spoke thus, distressed, with faltering voice, Lakṣmaṇa addressed him with these words.
Having once made that vow, you of unfailing valor, it is not fitting for you to speak so, like some weak-hearted man.
Those who speak the truth do not make false vows; for the mark of greatness is the keeping of one's promise.
It is not right for you, O faultless one, to fall into despair on my account; fulfill your vow today by slaying Rāvaṇa.
The enemy who has come within range of your arrows will not escape alive, just as a great elephant does not escape a roaring lion with sharp fangs.
But I desire the swift destruction of this evil-minded one, before the sun, having completed its course, sets.
If you wish for Rāvaṇa's death in battle, if you wish your vow to be fulfilled, if you desire the king's daughter, noble one, then quickly do as I say today, O hero.

The one hundred and second sarga is to be heard.
Hearing those words spoken by Lakṣmaṇa, Rāghava, destroyer of enemy heroes, took up his bow, full of might.
He released terrible arrows at Rāvaṇa in the midst of the army; then Rāvaṇa, lord of the rākṣasas, mounted another chariot.
He charged at Kakutstha like Rāhu at the sun; the ten-headed one, standing on his chariot, struck Rāma with arrows like thunderbolts, as a rain cloud strikes a great mountain with torrents.
Rāma, intent, showered the ten-headed one in battle with arrows blazing like fire and adorned with gold.
The gods, gandharvas, and kinnaras said that the fight was not equal, as Rāma stood on the ground and the rākṣasa on his chariot.
