Then Kumbha, leaping up, rushed at Sugriva and struck his chest in anger with a fist like a thunderbolt.
His armor burst open, blood appeared, and that mighty blow of the fist struck his bones with great force.
From the force of that blow, a great blazing energy arose there, like a flame produced by the striking of a thunderbolt on Mount Meru.
Struck there by him, Sugriva, the foremost of monkeys, gathered his mighty fist, equal to a thunderbolt.
With a fist shining like a circle of a thousand rays of fire, the valiant Sugriva struck Kumbha on the chest.
Struck by that blow, Kumbha, overwhelmed and greatly tormented, fell down like a fire whose flames have gone out.
Struck by that fist, the demon quickly fell, like the red planet Mars, its rays blazing, falling from the sky by chance.
The form of Kumbha as he fell, his chest shattered by the fist, shone like the form of the bull of the cows struck by Rudra.
When that Kumbha, of terrible valor, was slain in battle by the bull among monkeys, the earth with its mountains and forests trembled, and greater fear entered the demons.

Hear now the seventy-seventh sarga.
Seeing his brother struck down by Sugriva, Nikumbha, burning with anger, gazed at the king of the monkeys as if to consume him.
Then the steadfast Nikumbha took up a splendid iron club, adorned with a garland and given five handles, resembling the peak of Mahendra.
Encircled with golden bands, decorated with diamonds and coral, dreadful as the staff of Yama, it was the destroyer of the terror of demons.
That mighty Nikumbha, of great energy and terrifying valor, struck him and roared aloud, his mouth wide open, like the banner of Indra in strength.
With the golden necklace on his chest, the armlets on his arms, the two splendid earrings, and the decorated garland he wore,
Nikumbha shone with those ornaments and with his club, just as a cloud with lightning and thunder shines beneath the rainbow.
The tip of the club, tightly bound by the wind, blazed forth with a loud sound, like fire without smoke.
Like the city of Vithapavati, with the finest Gandharva palaces, with stars and planets and the moon and great planets, Nikumbha's whirling club seemed to spin through the sky.
Difficult to approach, blazing with the brilliance of his club and ornaments, Nikumbha, burning with the fire of wrath, appeared like the fire at the end of the age.
Neither the rakshasas nor the monkeys could move out of fear, but Hanuman, mighty and resolute, stood at the front with his chest expanded.
With arms like clubs, Hanuman, powerful among the powerful, hurled a club shining like the sun at Nikumbha's chest.
On his broad, firm chest, the club was shattered into a hundred pieces, scattering suddenly like a hundred meteors in the sky.
But the great monkey did not move from that blow, shaken by the club as an immovable mountain is by an earthquake.
Thus struck, Hanuman, the foremost of monkeys and exceedingly strong, clenched his fist with all his might.
Raising that fist, the radiant and valiant Hanuman, swift as the wind, hurled it with force at Nikumbha's chest.
There, from that powerful blow, Nikumbha's armor burst open and blood flowed, as lightning flashes forth from a cloud.
Struck by that blow, Nikumbha staggered, but regaining himself, seized mighty Hanuman.
Then, seeing Hanuman, the mighty one, seized by Nikumbha in battle, the inhabitants of Lanka cried out in terror.
Even as he was being dragged away by that rakshasa, Hanuman, son of the wind, struck him with a fist like a thunderbolt.
Freeing himself, Hanuman, son of the wind, swiftly threw Nikumbha down to the ground and crushed him.
