स प्रासमाविध्य तदाङ्गदाय समुज्ज्वलन्तं सहसोत्ससर्ज। स वालिपुत्रोरसि वज्रकल्पे बभूव भग्नो न्यपतच्च भूमौ
Then, brandishing his shining spear, Narantaka hurled it with force at Angada, but when it struck Vali's son in the chest, hard as a diamond, it broke and fell to the ground.
तं प्रासमालोक्य तदा विभग्नं सुपर्णकृत्तोरगभोगकल्पम्। तलं समुद्यम्य स वालिपुत्र- स्तुरंगमस्याभिजघान मूर्ध्नि
Seeing his spear shattered, resembling the severed coil of a serpent cut by Garuda, Vali's son raised his palm and struck the horse on the head.
निमग्नपादः स्फुटिताक्षितारो निष्क्रान्तजिह्वोऽचलसंनिकाशः। स तस्य वाजी निपपात भूमौ तलप्रहारेण विकीर्णमूर्धा
With its legs sunken, axle broken, tongue protruding, and resembling a mountain, the horse fell to the ground, its head shattered by the blow of Angada's palm.
नरान्तकः क्रोधवशं जगाम हतं तुरंगं पतितं समीक्ष्य। स मुष्टिमुद्यम्य महाप्रभावो जघान शीर्षे युधि वालिपुत्रम्
Seeing his horse slain and fallen, Narantaka was seized by fury; raising his fist, the mighty one struck Vali's son on the head in battle.
अथाङ्गदो मुष्टिविशीर्णमूर्धा सुस्राव तीव्रं रुधिरं भृशोष्णम्। मुहुर्विजज्वाल मुमोह चापि संज्ञां समासाद्य विसिस्मिये च
Then Angada, his head split by the blow, bled profusely with hot blood; he blazed repeatedly, became faint, regained consciousness, and was astonished.
अथाङ्गदो मृत्युसमानवेगं संवर्त्य मुष्टिं गिरिशृङ्गकल्पम्। निपातयामास तदा महात्मा नरान्तकस्योरसि वालिपुत्रः
Then Angada, gathering his fist with the speed of death and resembling a mountain peak, struck Narantaka, the great-souled son of Vali, on the chest.
स मुष्टिनिर्भिन्ननिमग्नवक्षा ज्वाला वमन् शोणितदिग्धगात्रः। नरान्तको भूमितले पपात यथाचलो वज्रनिपातभग्नः
With his chest shattered and sunken by the fist, vomiting flames and his body smeared with blood, Narantaka fell to the ground like a mountain broken by a thunderbolt.
तदान्तरिक्षे त्रिदशोत्तमानां वनौकसां चैव महाप्रणादः। बभूव तस्मिन् निहतेऽग्र्यवीर्ये नरान्तके वालिसुतेन संख्ये
Then, as the mighty Narantaka was slain in battle by Vali's son, a great roar arose in the sky from the best of the gods and the forest-dwellers.
अथाङ्गदो राममनःप्रहर्षणं सुदुष्करं तं कृतवान् हि विक्रमम्। विसिस्मिये सोऽप्यथ भीमकर्मा पुनश्च युद्धे स बभूव हर्षितः
Then Angada, having accomplished that most difficult feat which delighted Rama's heart, was himself amazed by his own terrible deed and rejoiced again in battle.

नरान्तकं हतं दृष्ट्वा चुक्रुशुर्नैर्ऋतर्षभाः। देवान्तकस्त्रिमूर्धा च पौलस्त्यश्च महोदरः
Seeing Narantaka slain, the foremost of the night-stalkers—Devantaka, Trishira, Paulastya, and Mahodara—cried out.
आरूढो मेघसंकाशं वारणेन्द्रं महोदरः। वालिपुत्रं महावीर्यमभिदुद्राव वेगवान्
Mahodara, swift in action, mounted a great elephant dark as a rain cloud and charged at Angada, the mighty son of Vali.
भ्रातृव्यसनसंतप्तस्तदा देवान्तको बली। आदाय परिघं घोरमङ्गदं समभिद्रवत्
Devantaka, powerful and burning with the grief of his brother's death, seized a terrible iron club and rushed at Angada.
रथमादित्यसंकाशं युक्तं परमवाजिभिः। आस्थाय त्रिशिरा वीरो वालिपुत्रमथाभ्यगात्
The hero Trishira, boarding a chariot shining like the sun and yoked with supreme steeds, advanced toward Vali's son.
स त्रिभिर्देवदर्पघ्नै राक्षसेन्द्रैरभिद्रुतः। वृक्षमुत्पाटयामास महाविटपमङ्गदः
Assailed by those three mighty rakshasas, destroyers of the pride of the gods, Angada tore up a great tree with spreading branches.
देवान्तकाय तं वीरश्चिक्षेप सहसाङ्गदः। महावृक्षं महाशाखं शक्रो दीप्तामिवाशनिम्
That hero Angada suddenly hurled the huge, broad-branched tree at Devantaka, as Indra would cast a blazing thunderbolt.
त्रिशिरास्तं प्रचिच्छेद शरैराशीविषोपमैः। स वृक्षं कृत्तमालोक्य उत्पपात तदाङ्गदः
Trishira cut down that tree with arrows sharp as venomous serpents; seeing the tree felled, Angada leapt up.
स ववर्ष ततो वृक्षान् शिलाश्च कपिकुञ्जरः। तान् प्रचिच्छेद संक्रुद्धस्त्रिशिरा निशितैः शरैः
Then the monkey-chief rained down trees and rocks, but the enraged Trishira cut them all apart with keen arrows.
परिघाग्रेण तान् वृक्षान् बभञ्ज स महोदरः। त्रिशिराश्चाङ्गदं वीरमभिदुद्राव सायकैः
With the tip of his iron club, Mahodara smashed those trees, while Trishira rushed at the heroic Angada with arrows.
गजेन समभिद्रुत्य वालिपुत्रं महोदरः। जघानोरसि संक्रुद्धस्तोमरैर्वज्रसंनिभैः
Mahodara, charging at Vali's son on his elephant, struck him on the chest in fury with spears as hard as thunderbolts.
देवान्तकश्च संक्रुद्धः परिघेण तदाङ्गदम्। उपगम्याभिहत्याशु व्यपचक्राम वेगवान्
Devantaka too, enraged, approached Angada and swiftly struck him with his club, then withdrew at speed.
स त्रिभिर्नैर्ऋतश्रेष्ठैर्युगपत् समभिद्रुतः। न विव्यथे महातेजा वालिपुत्रः प्रतापवान्
Though attacked simultaneously by those three foremost of rakshasas, the radiant and valiant son of Vali did not falter.
स वेगवान् महावेगं कृत्वा परमदुर्जयः। तलेन समभिद्रुत्य जघानास्य महागजम्
That swift and formidable Angada, making a mighty rush, struck the great elephant with his palm.
तस्य तेन प्रहारेण नागराजस्य संयुगे। पेततुर्नयने तस्य विननाश स कुञ्जरः
By that blow in battle, the eyes of the king of elephants fell out, and the elephant perished.
विषाणं चास्य निष्कृष्य वालिपुत्रो महाबलः। देवान्तकमभिद्रुत्य ताडयामास संयुगे
Then Vali's mighty son pulled out its tusk and, rushing at Devantaka, struck him in the fight.
स विह्वलस्तु तेजस्वी वातोद्धूत इव द्रुमः। लाक्षारससवर्णं च सुस्राव रुधिरं महत्
Reeling, the radiant Devantaka was like a tree shaken by the wind, and he shed a great stream of blood, red as lac dye.
अथाश्वास्य महातेजाः कृच्छ्राद् देवान्तको बली। आविध्य परिघं वेगादाजघान तदाङ्गदम्
Then, regaining his composure with difficulty, the powerful Devantaka swung his club with force and struck Angada.
परिघाभिहतश्चापि वानरेन्द्रात्मजस्तदा। जानुभ्यां पतितो भूमौ पुनरेवोत्पपात ह
Struck by the club, the son of the monkey king fell to his knees on the ground, but immediately sprang up again.
तमुत्पतन्तं त्रिशिरास्त्रिभिर्बाणैरजिह्मगैः। घोरैर्हरिपतेः पुत्रं ललाटेऽभिजघान ह
As he leapt up, Trishira struck the son of the monkey lord on the forehead with three fierce, straight-flying arrows.
ततोऽङ्गदं परिक्षिप्तं त्रिभिर्नैर्ऋतपुङ्गवैः। हनूमानथ विज्ञाय नीलश्चापि प्रतस्थतुः
Then, seeing Aṅgada surrounded by three foremost Niṣāda warriors, Hanumān and also Nīla set out, having understood the situation.
