तांस्तु विद्रवतो दृष्ट्वा वानरा जितकाशिनः। प्रणेदुः सुमहानादान् दिशः शब्देन पूरयन्
Seeing those Rakshasas fleeing, the victorious monkeys roared with great shouts, filling the quarters with sound.
ततः प्रवृत्तं तुमुलं हरीणां राक्षसैः सह। घोराणां भीमरूपाणामन्योन्यवधकाङ्क्षिणाम्
Then a tumultuous battle began between the monkeys and Rakshasas, fierce and terrifying in form, each eager to slay the other.
निष्पतन्तो महोत्साहा भिन्नदेहशिरोधराः। रुधिरोक्षितसर्वाङ्गा न्यपतन् धरणीतले
Rushing forth with great zeal, their bodies, heads, and necks shattered, all their limbs drenched in blood, they fell to the ground.
केचिदन्योन्यमासाद्य शूराः परिघबाहवः। चिक्षिपुर्विविधान् शस्त्रान् समरेष्वनिवर्तिनः
Some heroes, meeting each other in battle, wielding iron clubs, hurled various weapons, never turning back in the fight.
द्रुमाणां च शिलानां च शस्त्राणां चापि निःस्वनः। श्रूयते सुमहांस्तत्र घोरो हृदयभेदनः
There was heard a tremendous, dreadful, heart-piercing noise of trees, rocks, and weapons.
रथनेमिस्वनस्तत्र धनुषश्चापि घोरवत्। शङ्खभेरीमृदङ्गानां बभूव तुमुलः स्वनः
There arose there a tumultuous sound of chariot wheels, and of bows as if dreadful, and also a deafening clamor of conches, drums, and mṛdaṅgas.

तलैश्च चरणैश्चापि मुष्टिभिश्च द्रुमैरपि। जानुभिश्च हताः केचिद् भग्नदेहाश्च राक्षसाः। शिलाभिश्चूर्णिताः केचिद् वानरैर्युद्धदुर्मदैः
Some Rākṣasas were struck down by palms, feet, fists, trees, and knees; others, their bodies broken, were crushed by rocks hurled by the battle-frenzied Vānaras.
वज्रदंष्ट्रो भृशं बाणै रणे वित्रासयन् हरीन्। चचार लोकसंहारे पाशहस्त इवान्तकः
Vajradaṃṣṭra, terrifying the Vānaras in battle with his arrows, moved about like Death himself wielding a noose at the end of time.
बलवन्तोऽस्त्रविदुषो नानाप्रहरणा रणे। जघ्नुर्वानरसैन्यानि राक्षसाः क्रोधर्मूच्छिताः
The Rākṣasas, strong, skilled in weapons, and armed with various weapons, struck the Vānara armies in battle, their rage intensified.
जघ्ने तान् राक्षसान् सर्वान् धृष्टो वालिसुतो रणे। क्रोधेन द्विगुणाविष्टः संवर्तक इवानलः
Dhṛṣṭa, son of Vāli, struck down all those Rākṣasas in battle, seized by a doubled fury, like a blazing fire at the end of the world.
तान् राक्षसगणान् सर्वान् वृक्षमुद्यम्य वीर्यवान्। अङ्गदः क्रोधताम्राक्षः सिंहः क्षुद्रमृगानिव
The valiant Aṅgada, his eyes reddened with anger, lifting a tree, attacked all those hosts of Rākṣasas like a lion attacking small animals.
चकार कदनं घोरं शक्रतुल्यपराक्रमः। अङ्गदाभिहतास्तत्र राक्षसा भीमविक्रमाः
There, the Rākṣasas of terrible valor were slaughtered by Aṅgada, whose prowess was equal to Indra, in a ghastly massacre.
विभिन्नशिरसः पेतुर्निकृत्ता इव पादपाः। रथैश्चित्रैर्ध्वजैरश्वैः शरीरैर्हरिरक्षसाम्
With their heads split, they fell like trees cut down, along with the chariots adorned with banners, horses, and the bodies of Vānaras and Rākṣasas.
रुधिरौघेण संछन्ना भूमिर्भयकरी तदा। हारकेयूरवस्त्रैश्च शस्त्रैश्च समलंकृता
Then the earth, covered with streams of blood, became terrifying, adorned with necklaces, armlets, garments, and weapons.
भूमिर्भाति रणे तत्र शारदीव यथा निशा। अङ्गदस्य च वेगेन तद् राक्षसबलं महत्। प्राकम्पत तदा तत्र पवनेनाम्बुदो यथा
There, in battle, the earth shone like an autumn night; and by the force of Aṅgada, that great army of Rākṣasas trembled there, like a cloud shaken by the wind.

Vajradaṃṣṭra, the mighty Rākṣasa, filled with rage at the slaughter of his own forces and by the strength of Aṅgada, was overcome with anger.
विस्फार्य च धनुर्घोरं शक्राशनिसमप्रभम्। वानराणामनीकानि प्राकिरच्छरवृष्टिभिः
Stringing his dreadful bow, shining like Indra’s thunderbolt, he showered torrents of arrows upon the ranks of the Vānaras.
राक्षसाश्चापि मुख्यास्ते रथेषु समवस्थिताः। नानाप्रहरणाः शूराः प्रायुध्यन्त तदा रणे
And the chief Rākṣasas, stationed on their chariots, brave and armed with various weapons, fought valiantly in that battle.
वानराणां च शूरास्तु ते सर्वे प्लवगर्षभाः। अयुध्यन्त शिलाहस्ताः समवेताः समन्ततः
All the heroic Vānaras, the foremost among the monkeys, assembled on all sides, fought with stones in their hands.
तत्रायुधसहस्राणि तस्मिन्नायोधने भृशम्। राक्षसाः कपिमुख्येषु पातयांचक्रिरे तदा
There, in that great battle, the Rākṣasas hurled thousands of weapons fiercely at the leaders of the monkeys.
वानराश्चैव रक्षःसु गिरिवृक्षान् महाशिलाः। प्रवीराः पातयामासुर्मत्तवारणसंनिभाः
And the heroic Vānaras, resembling intoxicated elephants, hurled mountains, trees, and great rocks at the Rākṣasas.
शूराणां युध्यमानानां समरेष्वनिवर्तिनाम्। तद् राक्षसगणानां च सुयुद्धं समवर्तत
A fierce and skillful battle then unfolded between the heroic warriors who would not retreat from combat, and the hosts of rakshasas.
प्रभिन्नशिरसः केचिच्छिन्नैः पादैश्च बाहुभिः। शस्त्रैरर्दितदेहास्तु रुधिरेण समुक्षिताः
Some had their heads shattered, others their feet and arms severed; their bodies, pierced by weapons, were drenched in blood.
हरयो राक्षसाश्चैव शेरते गां समाश्रिताः। कङ्कगृध्रबलाढ्याश्च गोमायुकुलसंकुलाः
Both monkeys and rakshasas lay upon the ground, while flocks of vultures and jackals, along with packs of wild dogs, gathered around.
कबन्धानि समुत्पेतुर्भीरूणां भीषणानि वै। भुजपाणिशिरश्छिन्नाश्छिन्नकायाश्च भूतले
Headless trunks, terrifying to the timid, rose up; arms, hands, heads, and bodies severed, lay scattered on the earth.
वानरा राक्षसाश्चापि निपेतुस्तत्र भूतले। ततो वानरसैन्येन हन्यमानं निशाचरम्
Both monkeys and rakshasas fell to the ground there; then, the night-stalkers were struck down by the monkey army.
प्राभज्यत बलं सर्वं वज्रदंष्ट्रस्य पश्यतः। राक्षसान् भयवित्रस्तान् हन्यमानान् प्लवंगमैः
In the sight of Vajradamstra, his entire force was broken; the rakshasas, terrified and panic-stricken, were being slain by the monkeys.
दृष्ट्वा स रोषताम्राक्षो वज्रदंष्ट्रः प्रतापवान्। प्रविवेश धनुष्पाणिस्त्रासयन् हरिवाहिनीम्
Seeing this, Vajradamstra, his eyes red with anger and full of might, entered the fray with bow in hand, terrifying the monkey troops.
