Thus, having spoken to Vibhīṣaṇa for the accomplishment of the task, Rāma, the wise and mighty lord, resolved to ascend Suvela, having seen the most delightful slope of Mount Suvela.

Hear now the thirty-eighth sarga.
Then, having made up his mind to ascend Suvela, Rāma, accompanied by Lakṣmaṇa, spoke to Sugrīva as follows:
And to Vibhīṣaṇa, the righteous, devoted night-wanderer, skilled in counsel and versed in law, he spoke with gentle and excellent words:
Let us all ascend this excellent king of mountains, Suvela, adorned with hundreds of minerals, and spend this night here.
We shall also observe Laṅkā, the abode of that rākṣasa who, with evil intent, abducted my wife, bringing about his own death.
He by whom neither righteousness, nor conduct, nor family is known, who, with base rākṣasa intent, committed that reprehensible act—
When that vile demon is mentioned, anger arises in me; because of the offense of that low creature, I shall witness the destruction of the demons.
Indeed, when one, overcome by the noose of time, commits a sin, through the base transgression of that one, the whole clan is destroyed.
Thus reflecting, yet not overcome by anger toward Ravana, Rama ascended the colorful peak of Suvela to make his dwelling.
Lakshmana, focused and ready, followed him from behind, raising his great bow with arrows, delighting in mighty deeds.
Sugriva, together with his ministers and Vibhishana, as well as Hanuman, Angada, Nila, Mainda, and Dvivida, ascended after him.
Gaja, Gavaksha, Gavaya, Sharabha, Gandhamadana, Panasa, Kumuda, Hara, and Rambha the troop-leader also went up.
Jambavan, Sushena, the wise Rishabha, the mighty Durmukha, and the powerful monkey Shatavali too ascended.
These and many other swift-moving monkeys, mountain-roamers impelled by the speed of the wind, climbed that mountain.
Hundreds of them ascended Suvela, where Rama was; and in a short time, they had climbed the mountain from all sides.
On its summit, they saw the city, as if suspended in the sky, beautiful, with excellent gates and adorned with splendid ramparts.
The monkey chiefs beheld Lanka, filled with demons, and guarded by mighty ramparts and dark-skinned rakshasas.
Those foremost monkeys saw another rampart constructed there.
Seeing the demons eager for battle, all the monkeys, as Rama looked on, let out various roars.
Then the sun set, tinged by twilight, and the night, illuminated by the full moon, passed by.
Then Rama, leader of the monkey army, honored and welcomed by Vibhishana, together with Lakshmana and the troop leaders, settled comfortably on the slope of Suvela.

Listen now to the thirty-ninth sarga in the Yuddha Kanda of the glorious Valmiki Ramayana.
Having spent that night there on Suvela, the heroic monkey chiefs saw the forests and groves of Lanka.
They saw them to be even, pleasant, vast, and expansive; delightful to the eye, and beholding them, they were filled with wonder.
Crowded with campaka, ashoka, bakula, shala, and tala trees, concealed by groves of tamala, and surrounded by clusters of naga trees.
With hintala, arjuna, nipa, and saptaparna trees in full bloom, tilaka, karnikara, and patala trees all around.
Lanka shone with trees entwined by flowering vines of many kinds, divine in their variety, as Amaravati, the city of Indra.
Adorned with wondrous blossoms, tender red leaves, lush green turf, and blue-hued groves, all forming a vivid array.
There, the trees bore fragrant, exceedingly delightful flowers and fruits, which the monkeys wore as ornaments, like humans.
