By an act of misguided judgment, opposed to all beings, such a cruel illusion was employed against you by the master of illusion.
Let your sorrow be gone; all good fortune has come to you. Surely, prosperity attends you, and your beloved is safe—listen.
Rāma, having crossed the ocean with the army of monkeys, has encamped upon the southern shore, having reached it.
I have seen Kākutstha, fulfilled in purpose, together with Lakṣmaṇa, standing protected with the forces that have crossed the ocean.
The swift-moving rākṣasas who were sent by him have brought back the news here that Rāghava has crossed over.
Hearing this report, O wide-eyed one, the lord of the rākṣasas, Rāvaṇa, is now consulting with all his ministers.
Thus speaking, Saramā, the rākṣasī, together with Sītā, heard the dreadful sound of the army's full preparation.
Hearing the great roar of the war drum, sounding like thunder, Saramā, sweet-spoken, said this to Sītā:
This, O timid one, is the terrifying war drum that signals the arming for battle; listen to the deep drumbeat, like the rumble of clouds.
Mad elephants are being arrayed, chariots and horses are being yoked; thousands of warriors, armed with spears, are seen mounted on horses.
Here and there, thousands of armored troops rush forth; the royal roads are filled with armies, wondrous to behold.
With swift and roaring torrents, like the ocean, and with shining weapons, shields, and armor as well,
With chariots, horses, and elephants following the lord of the rākṣasas, this is the commotion of the delighted and energetic rākṣasas.
Behold the radiance being released, arising in many colors, as when fire scorches a forest in the heat, and its form is revealed.
Hear the clamor of bells, the roar of chariots, the neighing of horses, and likewise the sound of musical instruments.
This tumult, fierce and hair-raising, is the confusion among the rakshasas who follow their king, their hands raised with weapons.
Fortune attends you, dispelling sorrow, as fear has come upon the rakshasas; Rama, whose eyes are like lotus petals, is like Indra among the demons.
Having conquered, with anger subdued and unimaginable valor, Rama will slay Ravana in battle and become your husband once more.
Your husband, together with Lakshmana, will display valor among the rakshasas, as Indra did with Vishnu against their foes.
When Rama arrives, I will soon see you, steadfast and accomplished, seated on his lap, once the enemy has been destroyed.
Soon, O Sita, the mighty Rama will free you, goddess, from the captivity you have endured for many months, holding your single braid.
When you see his face, O goddess, shining like the full moon, you will be freed from tears born of sorrow, as a serpent sheds its skin.
After slaying Ravana in battle, Maithili, Rama will soon obtain happiness with you, his beloved, deserving of joy.
Honored by Rama, you will rejoice with the great-souled one, as the earth rejoices, joined with abundant harvests in a good season.
Like a swift horse circling around the great mountain, approach him here for refuge, O goddess; for he is the source of light, the sun, and the origin of all beings.

Let the thirty-fourth chapter be heard.
Then Saramā, seeing her overwhelmed by grief and bewildered by those words, comforted her as water soothes scorched earth.
Then, wishing to do what was beneficial for her friend, the wise Saramā, smiling before she spoke, addressed her at the proper time.
O dark-eyed one, I am able to go and secretly convey your message to Rama, and return unnoticed, bringing news of his well-being.
Even the wind or Garuda could not match my speed as I move without support in the open sky.
