Bowing my head to the blameless and noble lady, I requested a token of recognition to gladden Rama's heart.
Then Sita said to me: 'Take this excellent jewel, by which the strong-armed Rama holds you in high regard.'
Having spoken thus, the noble lady, greatly agitated, gave me the excellent and precious jewel, and with words entrusted me.
Then, bowing to the princess with devotion, I circumambulated her and departed, my mind intent on returning.
Then, having resolved in her mind, she again spoke to me: 'Hanuman, you must tell my story to Raghava.'
'So that, upon hearing it, Rama and Lakshmana, together with Sugriva, may come quickly—do thus.'
'If otherwise it should be, for two months my life remains; if Kakutstha does not see me, I shall die as one without protector.'
Hearing those pitiful words, anger arose in me; I then considered what further action remained.
Then my body grew, resembling a mountain; desiring battle, I began to destroy his forest.
Then the demonesses, with terrifying faces, saw that forest, broken and scattered, with frightened and confused deer and birds.
And seeing me there in the forest, they quickly gathered together and went at once to inform Ravana.
"O King, this difficult and fortified forest of yours has been destroyed by a wicked monkey, not knowing your great strength."
"Because of his evil intent, O King, and his actions displeasing to you, quickly order his death so that he may not return again."
Hearing this, the king of the demons sent forth the formidable demons called Kinkaras, who followed Ravana’s will.
Eighty thousand of them, holding spears and maces, I struck down in that part of the forest with my iron club.
Those of them who survived, swift in action, went and reported to Ravana that his army had been destroyed by me.
Then an idea arose in my mind to attack the great temple tower, and there I killed a hundred demons stationed with a pillar.
I, in my anger, destroyed that which was the ornament of Lanka; then Ravana ordered Jambumali, the son of Prahasta.
He, accompanied by many demons of dreadful and terrifying form, was a mighty and skilled warrior whom I faced.
With my exceedingly fierce iron club, I slew him along with his followers; hearing this, the king of demons then sent the mighty sons of his ministers.
Ravana sent forth those sons of his ministers, strong and well-equipped with infantry; with my iron club I sent them all to the abode of Yama.
Hearing that the sons of his ministers, swift in battle, had been slain, Ravana then sent five heroic commanders of his army.
I destroyed all of them together with their armies; then again the ten-headed Ravana sent his mighty son Aksha.
He sent him into battle, accompanied by many demons; that prince, the son of Mandodari, skilled in warfare—
As he suddenly rose into the sky, I seized him by the feet, whirled him a hundred times, and dashed him down.
When the ten-headed one heard that Aksha had come and been slain, then Ravana, enraged, sent his second son, named Indrajit.
Greatly enraged, he dispatched Indrajit, powerful and proud in battle; and I faced that entire force and that foremost of demons.
Having depleted his energy in battle, he attained great joy; even so, the mighty-armed one, possessing immense strength, was confident.
Sent by Ravana, together with warriors intoxicated by pride, he, realizing that I am unconquerable and that his own army was crushed, acted thus.
He bound me with the weapon of Brahma, swift as the wind, and then the rakshasas tied me with ropes.
